Chapter 81: Blue Castle Grounds

Once (y/n) and Kageyama arrived at the rival school, they made their way over to a group of buildings that looked like gymnasiums. Glancing inside each one of them, they found the Aoba Johsai volleyball team in gymnasium 3, engaged in an intense practice match against college students.

"They're playing against college students..." Kageyama mumbled, a hint of awe in his voice at the level of competition they were facing.

"I want to take a closer look," (y/n) spoke up, her eyes sparkling with excitement. "I'm going inside!"

"What? No!" Kageyama grabbed her arm, concerned. "They'll know you came to spy on them!"

"It's fine! I have the perfect excuse to be here!" (y/n) said confidently, reaching into her bag and pulling out a certain umbrella. "Don't worry about me."

Kenta followed closely behind (y/n) as she confidently entered the gymnasium. As soon as he caught the familiar scent, the adorable pup dashed straight towards Kindaichi, who was diligently keeping track of the score for the practice match.

Feeling a furry presence jump against his leg, Kindaichi looked down in surprise. "Huh? Kenta?" he exclaimed, scooping up the playful puppy. "What are you doing here?"

"We came to return this," (y/n) smiled warmly as she walked up to Kindaichi, umbrella in hand. "Thanks again for letting me borrow it."

(Y/n) gave the umbrella back to Kunimi, who was standing at the other side of the score board.

Kindaichi exchanged glances with Kunimi, who was standing on the other side of the scoreboard. His curiosity got the best of him as he questioned (y/n), "Why did you have his umbrella?"

"Oh, it started raining when we went to a café together, and I didn't bring one myself," (y/n) chuckled, recalling the memory. "I gave his jacket back, but had to borrow another thing from him."

Kindaichi's mind started running wild with thoughts, wondering if their visit to the café could be considered a date. Before he could overthink it, Kunimi chimed in with a smirk, "Just admit you did it on purpose. You wanted another excuse to see me again."

Caught in a playful banter, (y/n) playfully surrendered, "Alright, you got me," she laughed, holding up her hands in defense. "So, what can I borrow this time?"

"I'll look for something after this match," Kunimi chuckled, glancing towards the ongoing practice match. "Oikawa-san won't be happy if we don't track the score properly."

As Kindaichi tried to refocus on the practice match, (y/n) decided to take a seat on a nearby bench against the wall, allowing Kenta to play with an unused volleyball. The pup's adorable antics caught her attention, and she couldn't resist capturing the moment. Pulling out her phone, she started recording Kenta's play session, intending to share it with her friends from Tokyo in their group chat.

Meanwhile, as the practice match continued, Kageyama watched intently from outside, his eyes keenly analyzing Aoba Johsai's play style and strategies. He was deeply engrossed in studying their techniques, determined to gather as much information as possible to improve his own skills and contribute to the growth of the Karasuno team.

As (y/n) put her phone away, she couldn't help but roll her eyes, 'These guys never change... But I do miss them.'

"Well, well, well... What do we have here?"

"A little spying crow, it seems."

Looking up, (y/n) noticed the two third-years looking down at her.

"Hello, Matsukawa-senpai and Hanamaki-senpai." (y/n) greeted them with a kind smile "I came here to return Kunimi-kun's umbrella."

"Ah yes, from your little date." Hanamaki nodded, a mischievous glint in his eyes "He told us about that."

"Date...?" (y/n) couldn't stop the blush that crept onto her face, feeling slightly embarrassed by the teasing.

"But he wasn't really a gentleman, was he?" Matsukawa questioned, raising an eyebrow playfully.

"He should've walked you home, don't you agree?" Hanamaki smirked.

"He lived closer by... It made sense to go there first." (y/n) mumbled, trying to defend Kunimi.

"That does sound like Kunimi's logic." Matsukawa chuckled.

"I would've walked you home, no matter how far." Hanamaki winked at (y/n), causing her blush to deepen.

"That's the difference between third-years and first-years." Matsukawa nodded, playfully teasing "We know how to treat a girl right."

(Y/n) didn't know how to reply, her face was completely red now, 'These guys might be worse than Kuroo-senpai.'

"Oh, but didn't you go on a date with Iwaizumi as well?" Hanamaki teased, making the situation even more embarrassing.

"That's right!" Matsukawa confirmed with a grin "Are you going to try us all out? And then pick your favorite at the end?"

"Like a dating simulation game!" Hanamaki laughed, thoroughly enjoying teasing (y/n).

The teasing was all in good fun, and (y/n) knew that, but it was still enough to make her flustered.

"I'll volunteer to go next." Matsukawa smirked, leaning in closer to (y/n)'s face.

"I won't lose this competition." Hanamaki chimed in, giving her a wink "I'll make sure you pick me."

"I, uhh, have to go now!" (y/n) stuttered, feeling overwhelmed by the playful banter.

As she hurriedly walked away, Kenta stopped playing with the ball and followed closely, sensing her unease.

Matsukawa and Hanamaki laughed as they watched her retreat, knowing they might have pushed the teasing a bit too far. But they also knew that (y/n) could handle herself, and deep down, they were glad to see her again after all this time.

"Hey, we should go easy on her, she's just a first-year." Matsukawa suggested, trying to stifle his laughter.

"True, but it's fun to see her reactions." Hanamaki grinned "She's as adorable as ever."

"Agreed. But let's not scare her away." Matsukawa chuckled, glancing back at where (y/n) had disappeared.

Meanwhile, (y/n) found herself taking deep breaths, trying to calm her racing heart. Those third-years really knew how to mess with her, but she couldn't deny that it was good to see familiar faces from her past. 'What even was that?' (y/n) tried to calm herself down.

"Did you just run a marathon or something?" Someone spoke up "Your face is really red."

Turning towards the voice, (y/n) saw the two second years observing her face.

"Please don't repeat what just happened!" (y/n) sighed.

"What are you talking about?" Yahaba questioned.

"I think she's referring to them..." Watari spoke up, pointing to their seniors who seemed to be laughing about something.

"Don't compare us to them." Yahaba huffed "We don't act so childish."

"What he means is... Sorry about our seniors, please don't mind their silly antics." Watari stated "If it's any consolation, they're like that with everyone, teammates included."

Hearing this, (y/n) calmed down a little. Thanking the kind second year, she send him a genuine smile.

"Thanks... They did kinda freak me out." (y/n) chuckled.

"Another one of our seniors might come to freak you out as well." Watari sweatdropped "It seems like the practice match is over."

(Y/n) instantly knew who he was referring to and felt a cold sweat on her back.

"And he's noticed you." Yahaba laughed "Maybe you should run."

"(Y/n)-chan! You came to visit me!" Oikawa shouted as he came running to her "Did you see how amazing I was?"

"Uhhh, sure Oikawa-senpai!" (y/n) chuckled awkwardly "Shouldn't you be practicing with your own teammates though?"

"That was just a fun match during our break, we'll continue the actual practice match in a bit." Oikawa explained "You should stay and watch me!"

"Wouldn't that be a disadvantage for us?" Yahaba questioned "Having her analyze our actual line-up I mean."

"It's fine. We'll beat Karasuno again either way." Oikawa had a certain glint in his eye.

"Oh? What makes you so sure?" (y/n) challenged "We've got plenty of extra tricks up our sleeves now."

"We could say the same." Oikawa smirked.

"Oi, Shittykawa, less talking more stretching." Iwaizumi called out "You'll hurt your ankle again!"

"That's a bad way to express your worry Iwa-chan!" Oikawa whined.

"Just shut up and— Oh! Hi (y/n)-san!" Iwaizumi suddenly noticed (y/n) and he could feel his cheeks heat up.

"Hey Iwaizumi-senpai! Good to see you again!" (y/n) smiled brightly.

"(Y/n)-chan came to visit me, Iwa-chan." Oikawa teased "That should be obvious."

"Yeah, no, I came to return Kunimi-kun's umbrella." (y/n) rolled her eyes at Oikawa.

"Perfect excuse to take a look at our practice." Yahaba smirked "I am impressed by your sneakiness."

"I don't need to spy." (y/n) shrugged "I'm confident in my team. They'll win."

"You'll have to beat Johzenji first." Iwaizumi spoke up "They're a... weird team... Good luck."

"You can say that again." (y/n) laughed awkwardly.

"You know them already?" Watari asked, raising an eyebrow.

"Well... I guess I made a deal with their captain." (y/n) clarified feeling even more awkward.

"What kind of deal?" Oikawa asked in a serious voice.

"He wanted my phone number and I agreed to give it if he could beat us." (y/n) laughed awkwardly again.

"What!?" Oikawa shrieked "I won't allow it!"

"What a creep." Iwaizumi grumbled annoyed.

"Just make that deal with me, (y/n)-chan!" Oikawa whined.

"Now you're the creep, Crappykawa." Iwaizumi rolled his eyes.

"You're just jealous I asked first." Oikawa huffed.

"I don't need to make that deal." Iwaizumi smirked.

"What's that supposed to mean!?" Oikawa asked shocked "You already have her number? Not fair!"

As the third years continued to argue, (y/n) said her goodbyes to the second years who stood by awkwardly.

'That's all the excitement I can handle today, time to leave.' (y/n) sighed.

Before making her way out of the gymnasium, (y/n) decided to let Kenta say goodbye to his favorite babysitter.

"Kindaichi!" (y/n) called out "We're going home now... Had enough excitement for one day."

"Oh, alright, it was nice seeing you again (y/n)-san" Kindaichi smiled "You too Kenta."

Kindaichi picked up the puppy and received many kisses.

"(Y/n)-san, i-if you're okay with it, I would like to see Kenta more often, and you t-too, of course." Kindaichi started "Would you like to go to the dog park together some time?"

"Of course!" (y/n) smiled brightly "Kenta would love that!"

"Great!" Kindaichi shyly looked away "I'll let you know when I'm free then!"

As if on cue to ruin the moment, Kunimi walked over.

"Here you go." He said as he gave (y/n) something.

Looking down at her hand, (y/n) saw the Aoba Johsai pen he had given you.

"Isn't that the pen we received during orientation on our first day?" Kindaichi questioned.

"It's the only thing I could find." Kunimi shrugged.

"I actually missed my own orientation..." (y/n) smiled up to Kunimi "Thank you."

(Y/n)'s actual gratitude towards the simple pen caught the first year off guard, he had to look away to hide his blush.

"It's nothing." He said "I'll let you know if I ever want it back."

"I'll cherish it till then!" (y/n) smiled brightly "See you guys later!"

Waving at them, (y/n) finally made her way back to Kageyama.

"Let's go back now!" she exclaimed.

"Took you long enough." He grumbled, feeling jealous at how much his rival team had gotten from her.

Unfortunately, they had just missed the arrival of a new threat.

"Welcome back... Mad Dog." Oikawa smirked as he greeted the other teen.
