Chapter 18: Remembering Ophiuchus

Caren and Gretchen snuck into Owen's house in the middle of the night. Owen was sleeping with his dog Roxy curled up at the end of the bed. Caren grabbed a pillow, placed it over Owen's face, and started suffocating him. Owen woke up startled and unable to breathe as he fought for his life.

Gretchen took Roxy, locked her in the bathroom, and waited for Caren to finish. It took about 3 minutes because Owen wasn't very strong, and Gretchen checked his pulse once he stopped moving.

"Is he dead?" Caren asked, and Gretchen took a moment before replying.

"He's dead; let's bag him and drop him." The two wrapped Owen up in his sheets and took him out, throwing him in the back of Caren's car.

They drove 8 miles south to one of the bigger lakes and threw his body in. "Poor little Owen, I feel like he was finally learning to stand up for himself. Whatever, fuck him anyway." Caren said and looked at Gretchen, who chuckled.

"Goodbye bitch, you will not be missed," Gretchen added, and they got back in Caren's car and went home.

Owen's body was found three days later, and Gretchen informed her friends of the investigation.

"I remember when we first met Owen; I cannot believe he said his sign was Ophiuchus," Asha said, shaking her head.

"What do you think his actual sign was?" Aubrey asked, chuckling.

"What was his birthday? Was it in his file or on his ID when you found him?" Linda asked, and Gretchen nodded.

"It was, but I feel like I shouldn't say..." Gretchen trailed off, and Lori huffed.

"Oh, come on fuck him; he's dead! What was the date?" Lori shouted, and Gretchen sighed.

"Fine, all I will tell you was it was in the middle of December." She replied, and Stacey and Courtney looked at each other.

"Do you think he was a Sag or Cap?" Courtney asked her.

"Definitely a Cap, for one; Capricorns are typical for not believing in astrology which would make sense why he would proclaim himself the fraud sign. Secondly, he was definitely capping." Stacey responded with a laugh, and Courtney glared.

"Did you just pun my sign? Really?" Courtney facepalmed, and Stacey continued to laugh.

"Sure as hell did! Gretchen, are we right?" She turned her attention to the goddamn Gemini, who sighed.

"I'm not telling you; give it a rest," Gretchen replied with an eye roll.

"Did he have any family?" Linda asked because her brain was in lawyer mode.

"Yeah, some girl named Carol is his sister. She's coming down today." Gretchen replied before she left for the station.

When she arrived, a young girl sat in one of the interrogation rooms, looking very upset. "Good afternoon; I'm sorry for your loss," Gretchen said and sat down across from her.

"Thank you, what can I do for you? Do you know who did this?" Carol asked, and Gretchen sighed.

"We are still investigating. Did Owen have any enemies?" Gretchen questioned her.

"No, not that I know of. He was so sweet and kind. He was part of this book club that he loved going to. He told me how everyone was so nice, and he loved his friends." She replied and sniffled quietly.

"Uh-huh, may I ask, what is your sign?" Gretchen asked, curious to see if she would make jokes about Owen's stupid idea of his sign. It, however, was worse than she could have anticipated.

"Cetus, my name is Carol Cetus too, by the way." She replied with a grin, and Gretchen wanted to shoot herself.

"What the fuck did you just say? That's not a fucking thing!" Gretchen lost her shit, startling Carol.

"What do you mean? It's the 14th sign!" Carol said she was a little too excited about her wild imagination.

"Absolutely fucking not! Get the fuck out of her! Actually, no, I bet you killed your brother; you are clearly insane!" Gretchen was still losing her mind as she framed Carol for the murder and sent her to prison.

Gretchen returned to her friends and told them about the ordeal, and they were also shocked. "Are you sure she did it?" Asha asked suspiciously, and Gretchen nodded.

"I am positive that crazy bitch did it." She still could not wrap her head around Carol saying, "Cetus."

"You know you are probably right." Asha accepted it but remained suspicious.
