Not Sure If We Could See Eye-To-Eye

For Ink_Rose196

Geno couldn't help but laugh. "Wow, everything well? You sound super tired."

Reaper let out a loooong groan, his head lying next to Geno's side. They laid inches apart, both daring not to touch one another. "Long day."

"Reaping, right?" Geno recalled, scratching his skull. "Hm. Didn't think I'd be the greek-godly type."

"I'm not imaginary, Geno."

"Yeah, I know." Geno smiled. Reaper let out another frustrated sigh, his palms balling up into fists.

Ever since he met this skeleton, he couldn't bring himself to end his life. Geno was a lone soul stuck in an endless black void with no relation to anyone. Except for the brother he continuously claims to have which Reaper doubts his existence. Of course, the fact that he had no family wasn't enough to excuse him from death, but Geno had the DETERMINATION no one else had.

All-be-it strange DETERMINATION.

"I've come today to take you away."

The skeleton sat up a little straighter, craning his head slightly. "Who?"

Reaper blinked. "...Who? I'm the Grim Reaper." They shared a moment of silence before the mortal abruptly bursted with laughter. The god tilted his head, intrigued with the response. "Why are you laughing...? I'm here to take you to the afterlife."

"Mmm. Okay. Go ahead." The other ceased his laughter and faced him. That's when Reaper noticed.

Geno was blind.

Something inside him twisted painfully. Reaper couldn't identify the feeling. "You're blind."

"And you're not real." Geno claimed flatly, confidence behind each letter.

"Excuse me?"

"You are not excused yet." The scarfed skeleton quickly said. "Who are you really?"

"I'm the Grim Reaper."

"No you're not. Reapers don't exist."

Reaper guffawed. "OH, I ASSURE YOU, WE EXIST."

"Prove it then."

The god paused. "Prove it?"

"Prove it. If you are a god, that is."

Now, Reaper would have most definitely proven his godly status by reaping the other right then and there. He could have actually done many things to prove himself. All he had to do was lift his bony fingers and just graze the poor bag of bones.

It would be so easy to prove that he was the god of death.

It would be so easy to prove that he was a monster.

"I can't." Were the words which left his mouth, quiet and heavy.

Geno shrugged. "Like I said, you're not. Sorry about that."

"Hey Reaper?"

Reaper allowed his empty eye-sockets to open. "Mm?"

"What do you look like?"

The god thought for a moment. "I look hot."

"Pffft. Wow.  Okay then. Didn't know my imaginary friend would be this arrogant."

"I pride myself in my arrogance." The god state proudly.

"That's the problem." Geno chuckled. "You're too prideful. Be anymore and your ego might just suffocate me."

"Oh, come on," Reaper sat up, waving a hand. "I'm not that bad." Despite his blindness, Geno managed a 'really?' look in Reaper's general direction. The god couldn't help but snicker. "Okay, maybe it is."

"Uh-huh."

"BUT," Reaper's body began to levitate, his form lifting off of the 'ground'. "I'm not as bad as some other gods." He could tell that Geno just rolled his 'eyes'. "I promise."

"Mm."

Reaper smiled before settling back down on the ground, but this time it was on Geno's other side. "Also, I'm just a skeleton in a black cloak."

"Oh. Makes sense since you are the," Geno held up his hand to make air quotes. "'Grim Reaper'."

Reaper frowned. "I am though."

"I thought we already established you're not?"

The god huffed. "We did."

"Right." Geno adjusted his scarf quietly, thinking  about something. Reaper sat with him in silence as he thought, just enjoying the silence and Geno in general.

After a while, Reaper had to leave to do his nightly rounds of reaping, opening a portal to his world to leave. He turned back towards his friend and called over his shoulder. "Hey, I need to go do my job. I'll be back tomo-" He stopped himself mid-sentence while he watched Geno jump and quickly scramble to his feet.

In a matter of moments, Geno was running towards him. "W-Wait!" He reached his hand out to Reaper.

And without thinking, the god caught it.

He held Geno's arm to prevent him from tripping into his world. Geno himself told him that he couldn't leave or else he would dust, so Reaper didn't want that to happen.

And then, reality finally caught up with him and the god quickly released his arm. "Oh- OH I didn't mean to-"

Geno reached out again for Reaper, snagging a part of Reaper's cloak. Without words, he drew closer and quietly lifted a hand to touch Reaper's face. His real face. "You're..." Geno's words wavered as his expression morphed into realization. "Real."

Reaper slowly nodded. "Yes. I am." He quietly brought his own hand to gently wipe away Geno's tears as more and more came dripping down.

"You're real. You're actually real." Geno quietly cried.

"Yes, Yes I am." Reaper responded, unsure.
It had finally occurred to him how lonely Geno really is. He has no relatives, no friends, and no sight. The 'imaginary friend' thing now made sense to Reaper. After all, from what he gathered about Geno, he had been here for a long time.

"I can't even believe..." Geno pulled away. "Oh god, I- Reaper- wait, you're actually-?"

Reaper took a step closer to Geno, then another. He continued until he was close to the scarfed skeleton again, close enough so that Reaper could still wipe Geno's tears. "I told you."

"You did. You did..." Geno slowly nodded, the feeling of Reaper's hand sending chills down his spine. "...A real reaper, huh."

"Yes."

Geno stayed quiet for a few minutes, which felt like an eternity for Reaper. "You're a really bad one."

Relief silently washed over the god. "I know."

"Just really bad."

"Yeah."

"But stupidly good at being hot."

"Huh?"

"Nothing."
