Chapter 3

April

It's been two days since the note from Phantom arrived mysteriously in my hands. I expected that night would be my Oblivion, It wasn't. But I am sure It will be soon.

What was worse that the Phantom reached me after 6 years. Until now I never had a single note or any communication with them.

What did they want from me after all these years? And what does it means the games are different now? Could it be any worse than before?

My mind was flooding with questions when I entered my office building all covered in white interiors. I work at Harper Cooperative as an assistant head when I get the time to stay alive.

I moved through the corridors as people stopped and wished me. The white coat and short skirt bound me in all formalites but the usual scowl was visible on my face. I hate doing this. My Dad and Dr Harper are kind of friends so after I did my college, he urged me to become an employee here.

I had no choice but to listen to him. I thought I could still live a normal life by sticking with Dad's choices, but sadly I was wrong here too.

I could never be like them.

The door to my glass cabin opened revealing the biggest jerk in the world sitting on my chair. My Boss.

"What the fuck are you doing here Mason?" I asked irritation visible on my face.

"Don't be so hard on me, April. I am your boss, you keep forgetting that." He smirked at me, taking a cigarette between his lips as his cunning steel grey eyes looked at me like they always do. They are like a storm wanting to shallow me. Like I am some game he is planning to beat. That wavy dark brown hair and sharp cheekbones are always clever and strategic. Even though his interest lags far form his work he never fails to leave the impact of who he is.

Mason Harper, Son of a billionaire and my middle school bully.

He is a money-spoiled brat who was hung upon me since we were just two, because the universe mistakenly made our dad friends.

My dad is rich too, but never had I got the privileges to use his money and fame recklessly. Leave the exception of Jared. I was too busy running for my life to do that.

"Yes, I remember Boss." I snarled back. I may be his employee, but he can't make me an obedient one. We both know who does all the work here.

Being his assistant is the worst, I do everything because his dad trusts me to handle his spoiled son while Mason only does his usual drugging and drinkings.

It's strange our dads think we are friends. Someday I fear that they will even ask me to marry him. I swear, if that day comes I am gonna kill this bastard and run away.

"Cursing me in your mind, April?" He asked me throwing the cigarette butt in my coffee mug and stood up from my chair.

"You know better." I snapped his hand when he tried to touch my shoulder. He knows I don't like friendly touches. Especially from him.

"You are always rude, April. Chill, I am not here to annoy you or give you extra work. Instead," He brought his face closer to mine "I am here to give you an offer."

I stared at him my blood running cold. Is he really going to propose me or something? Naa, He hates me too. But I am sure there is some trick.

Mason always play tricks.

"What offer?" I whispered nervously and he grinned in satisfaction.

"Don't be nervous. I am just asking you to come to Vegas with me and be my fake girlfriend for a day." His grin intensified and I gritted my teeth controlling my urge to slap him. I may even have done it, If we weren't in the office.

"Don't worry it's simple. You just have to make my ex jealous. You have done that before. Haven't you?"

Yes I have, and It was horrible. He tricked me like he always does and humiliated me in front of the whole high school. I could never forget that day.

I moved my face closer so that my eyes could only focus on his, "If you ever tell me anything like that or dare to make any such offer. I will beat you, strangle you, until you beg me to stop." I hissed at him my voice sharp and threatening.

"And you know I can do that." His mouth twitched up in disgust with that. I know he remembers that day too. With a loud thud of the door, I stormed off my cabin and head down to the elevator.

Anger running through my nerves. This jerk here and another in my house. My life sucks no matter how hard I try to make it better.

I hate that I cannot control my life. I hate that I made that deal years ago. Sometimes I hate myself for letting everything affect me so much. When will I really find something to live for? When will I get my peace of mind?

Strong arms came crashing into me out of nowhere. The person flinched in surprise as my head hits his right shoulder.

He hissed in pain as though I hitted him in the wrong spot. Despite myself, I snarled at him, "Can't you see!?"

His gaze landed on me sharply, "Well, I can see but clearly you can't."

He pulled back and I can see his blue eyes glaring at me. I didn't allow myself to study the depths of it's color before I avert my eyes to scan his appearance.

He is lean and tall, wearing a black jacket and a hoodie hiding his blond white hair. All his black clothes looked like a black spot in this huge white room. My eyes caught the piercing around his left brow and ears, silver glisting in the light and the swirl of black ink around his neck.

Snow white hair and Blue eyes. With piercing and tattoos. Am I dreaming?

I suck in breath with anger and awe, He is really attractive but has chosen a bad day to mess with me.

"Well, Mister wannabe punk hero you should watch your steps. This is not a club or your local park to visit. This is a certified building of Harper Cooperative. You can't just walk here, Jackass."

He blinked at me in surprise, "What did just you call me?" He asked and then goes on without waiting for me to answer.

"Sorry to disappoint you, Miss. I am not here for a morning walk either. I have an appointment with Dr Harper and I wish to speak with him."

Ohh, fuck. He came for a meeting and I messed up. If he complains to Dr Harper about my behaviour and he tells my dad. Then, I am in trouble.

"Ohh...Ok," I fumbled trying to find the words without sounding rude. "I didn't see you as a client since you look like you just came out drunk from a bar. A formal dress code would be suitable."

Looks like I can't really help being rude.

He raised an eyebrow at me. Amusment glinting in his eyes despite the blank expression he wore. He looked at me like I am something fun to watch. I bet he is both annoyed and in inside, laughing at me with my so called professional behaviour. Totally plotting to file a complaint.

Still, The smile I gave him is anything but sweet. "He is in a meeting. You can wait in the lobby. You will be called soon after he finishes."

"Thank you, Miss." He smirked at me not so sweetly either. His eyes meeting with mine for a split second, before I called Tora to deal with him.

"You don't fit here you know?" I was taken aback by his words.

"What?" I asked my eyes looking in his, before he took out put a pair of black sunglasses and denying me the entrance to unravel the blues of his eyes.

"I don't think arrogant people like you should work in something so big." He smirked and this time it was a mocking one.

"And why do you think that?"

"Because I can see the frustration on your face. You don't like it here. Isn't it?" He smiled, the truth was on his tongue. How could he see it that easily?

"Take my free advice, when you don't like something, You should just quit it."

"Easy to say".

"I think it's even easier to do."

I stared at him, not knowing what to say and getting more annoyed by every second I spend looking at him.
"Who are you anyway? And why are you even talking to me?"

"Consider me as a social advisor since you came all smashing into me without any reason. I am just doing you a favour." Sarcasm was visible in his tone. I looked away and rolled my eyes.

What is happening today? Two idiots dropping at me one after the other on the same day?

"Tora!" I screamed and she came frantically balancing her files, "Guide him to the lobby and inform Dr Harper about his meeting."

"What name shall I give him?" Tora asked him.

He smirked, his eyes still looking at me from behind the black shades that holds his blue stare.

"Tell him 'The Ghost of December' is here to drop a visit."
