The Unexpected Guest

While we were taken away, I communicated to Jared through my thoughts; I said, "Jared, if you can hear me in your thoughts, think 'yes'." He looked at me, puzzled, and then did as I said. "Don't worry, I will take care of everything," I said. "How? What about the bodies we buried, and what about Charlie and Melissa?" he asked. "I am taking care of everything as we speak," I said reassuring him. "I hope so," he replied. "When they interrogate you, communicate your thoughts to me and I will do the same," I said.

"But what if we are put in different interrogation rooms?" he asked. "We still can communicate; I have put a spell on both of us, making us be able to read each other's mind," I said. "I guess you have a spell for everything," he uttered in his mind. "OK, now I am going to stop communicating with you as I have got to do the deterioration spell," I thought. He looked at me confused and thought 'OK'. I started uttering 'Detez maz detez loz detez maz roze' in my mind.

As I finished the spell, we were at the police station. We were taken to separate interrogation rooms as suspected by Jared. The chief kept questioning Jared while deputy Silva questioned me. "Did the two of you commit the murders?" Deputy Silva asked me. "We didn't murder anyone," I said. "Well, then you two must be the cleanup crew," he said sarcastically. "Very funny, ha-ha; you should have become a comedian, not a cop," I sneered, dishing him what he served. He looked at me annoyed, and said, "Joke all you want, but you two are going away for a long time once the bodies are exhumed."

"What bodies?" I asked, looking him straight in the eyes. "Oh, you're good; you can lie with a straight face," he said with disdain. "What proof do you have that we committed murders?" I asked. I could hear Jared in the other room repeat after me. "Here is my proof," he said, showing photographs of Jared and I burying the bodies and putting Melissa and Charlie into the truck. "Now what do you have to say for yourself?" He asked with a sarcastic grin, which made me want to blow him up with my hands.

Instead, I said, "Any fool can see that those photos have been edited. I mean look at me, do I look like someone with powers to drop two monsters to the ground by raising my hands? And are there really monsters walking around this town? This is crazy talk, even for you," I said. "What do you mean 'even for me?'" he asked, annoyed. "As I opened my mouth to answer, the door opened and the chief stepped, in asking "How is it going over here?"

"Not well, chief, this woman is a real piece of work," he answered. "Is that so? Well, that's OK. Jared already gave up everything. So, he gets a deal, but you get the death penalty," he said smiling. "But on the other hand, if you tell us your side of the story, I will be able to cut you a deal as well. Life imprisonment is better than the death sentence, right?" He asked, sitting down. "It's alright, I'll take my chances in court," I said with disregard, which made the chief furious. "Well, see you in court," he said storming out. Deputy Silva followed him. I sat there listening to their thoughts and thinking what a great spell it was.

A few minutes later, the chief walked in and sat in front of me and said, "I don't know how you made the evidence disappear, but I know you did it," he said. "Tell me, hypothetically, what were you two doing in the cemetery?" He asked. "OK, this is what happened; Charlie had fixed a scavenger hunt for Jared and me just in case he doesn't make it. As you know, he didn't make it; so, as it was for both of us—and I am good with scavenger hunts—he asked my help, to which I obliged," I said. "Then what's with the grave digging?" He asked. "One of the clues led us to Charlie's grave," I said. "Then what about the monsters or whatever?" the chief asked. "Those were dummies that were part of the game," I answered. If you searched my house, you might have found them," I replied. "Oh, we found them," the chief replied.

"So I guess you exhumed Charlie's body, expecting to find more bodies," I asked. "Yes, we did, and no, we didn't find any other bodies, except Charlie's," he answered. "You're free to leave," the chief said with regret; he didn't buy my story. Then he looked at Jared and told him he was on suspension until further notice.

"But I haven't done anything wrong, you know that!" he protested. "But we still need to revise this case, which means until I say otherwise, you are suspended," he replied in a stern voice. "Come on, Jared, let's go," I said, concerned he would cause a scene which might get him locked up. We were both released and dropped home by one of the police officers. But as we arrived, I noticed a Harley parked in the driveway, and as I entered the house, there she was; my unexpected guest.
