Vondrohn

"Melissa, what happened? What are you doing here?" I asked.

I was more shocked than surprised when I saw her; she looked like she had been in a fight.

"All hell broke loose, Octavia," Melissa said, hugging me.

"What happened?" I asked, stroking her head.

"Let her come in first," Aunt Cassie said.

She stepped in and sat down. She was in tears.

"What happened, and where is Orlando?" I asked impatiently.

"On our way home, Orlando noticed the mark on my neck and questioned me about it," she said.

"What mark?" I asked.

"This," she said, showing her neck.

It was from when the monster grabbed her and Anastasia.

"Oh, crap; the scar's still there. What did you say?" I asked.

"I tried to lie, but he saw right through me. So I said I'll tell him everything when we get home," she said.

"And then what happened?" Anastasia asked.

"When we got home, I told him the truth," she said.

"What?" I asked.

"I said I'm a witch and he just flew off the handle. He accused me of being a killer," Melissa said.

"But that doesn't make any sense," Arya replied.

"Well, it seems Orlando isn't who we thought he was; he's a demon," she said.

"He's a what?" Aunt Cassie asked.

We all were in shock.

Yeah, his father was a demon; and to make things more complicated, his mother was a witch," Melissa said, "His mother vanquished his father when she found out he was a demon."

"I'm guessing his father was using her just to create Orlando," Aunt Cassie said.

"Because he'll have the powers of both a witch and a demon, isn't it?" Arya asked.

"Exactly. He's what you'd call a 'Vondrohn'," Aunt Cassie said; "The most powerful kind of creature you'd find on Earth,"

"Oh, that's just lovely," Anastasia said.

"We need to find a way to kill him," I said.

"No, don't!" Melissa said.

"Why not?" I asked.

"He could've killed me back then, but he didn't," she replied.

"But he's probably going to come looking for you soon," Aunt Cassie said.

"And for us, too, if he knows we're witches, too," I said.

"He does," Melissa said.

"Oh, boy," Arya said.

"I'm sorry, Melissa, but we have to prepare for the worst," I said.

"Exactly, we won't hurt him unless he tries to hurt us," Aunt Cassie said.

"What happened to his mother?" I asked.

"He probably killed her," Anastasia said.

"Well, if he did kill his own mother, killing us wouldn't be an issue, now, would it?" I asked.

"I don't know if he killed her. I need some time to think about this," Melissa said, walking away.

"Should we follow her?" Anastasia asked.

"No, let her be; she needs to be alone now," Aunt Cassie replied.

"I agree. She has been with Orlando since college and engaged to him for the past two years. The thought of losing him would be hard on her," I said.

"Yes, that's true. I know how hurt I was when Charlie dumped me; and to make things even worse, he went out with another woman right after," Anastasia said; "That's when my dark side took over."

"Well, we can't wait until Melissa is ready; we need to plan ahead," I said.

"I agree," Aunt Cassie said.

"Let's check out the grimoire for any information on vondrohns and prepare in case he comes for us," I said.

"Yes, and we should call Brian. He might know something about this," Aunt Cassie said.

"Good idea," I said before calling him.

"You called?" Brian asked as he appeared.

"Yes, what do you know about vondrohns?" I asked.

"Wait, what? You've found one?" Brian asked.

"Yes: Melissa's fiancé," I replied.

"Oh, no, that's not good. He's more powerful than any witch or a demon, and if she has a child with him, it would be even more powerful," Brian said.

"This keeps getting better by the minute," I said, feeling frustrated.

"Do you know how to stop him?" I asked.

"No, I don't. I'll have to look into it," he said.

"Let me know if you find anything," I said.

"Will do," he replied as he disappeared.

I joined Aunt Cassie and the rest and told them what Brian told me.

"We could really use some good news right now," Arya said.

"Aunt Cassie, did you find anything?" I asked.

"The grimoire says—"

We were interrupted by a noise.

"What's that?" Anastasia asked.

"Not sure. Let's check it out," I said.

Right then, we heard Orlando call out to Melissa.

"Looks like he's back. Go talk to him, and don't do anything to upset him," I said.

"Where are you going?" Anastasia asked.

"I'll be with you in a minute," I said.

"Melissa, I'm sorry for losing my temper. We need to talk; don't be afraid," he said.

I went upstairs and met Melissa. She was on her way down. I explained what Brian said and asked her not to go with him at any cost. When we arrived, Orlando apologised to Melissa and asked her to go back with him.

"Orlando, can I ask you a question?" I asked.

"Sure, what is it?" he replied.

"Did you kill your mother?" I asked.

"Yes," he said, and was shocked right after.

"Wait, why did I say that?" he asked.

"Because I used the truth spell on you," I replied.

"Oh, you witch!" he yelled in a rage.

"Do you want to marry Melissa so you can have a child that's even stronger than you?" I asked.

"Yes," he said.

Melissa had heard enough.

"I'm sorry, Orlando, but it's over," she said as she took off her ring and put it in his hand.

"No, it's not! You're coming with me!" he yelled.

"No, I won't!" she said.

"Oh, yes, you will. If you don't, I'll kill your entire family," he said.

"That's not happening," I said as I put my hand forward and chanted the vanquishing spell.

Aunt Cassie and the rest joined me as well.

"You can't vanquish me!" he yelled, driving us all, except Melissa, to the wall with just a swing of his hand.

"No!" cried Melissa; "Okay, fine; I'll come with you; just leave them alone."

He then released us from his grip and dropped us to the floor.

"Melissa, wait!" I shouted; but she shook her head.

"I'm sorry, sis, but I have to do this," Melissa said as she turned around and left.
