-CHAPTER 6-
The two continued on, and as day faded into night, their ambitious demeanour began to fade. Bearpaw felt as if she'd been walking for moons, any further and her weak paws would crash and fumble beneath her. she looked over to her brother, Robinpaw. his face was stern yet anxious. the unknown of this world threatened them like a beast in the dark. they silently walked along, exchanging occasional glances and nods. they'd been apart for so long, what where they meant to say ? their lives are so different, one a honorable apprentice, and the other ? a murderer. Bearpaw's brown pelt matted with heather as the two siblings weaved across the moors. grassland spread for miles, they'd ventured far from the clans now. their only compass was the sun, and the craggy summit far in the distance.
Bearpaw paused. her paws became cracked and torn with ware, she was only young, her tiny body was not made for this. she lowered herself to the ground, her belly touching the grass and her tail swishing over the dirt. "we need to rest" she gasped. her lungs were worn and constantly heaving for breath. Robinpaw's ear twitched and then flattened against his head. he turned and glared at at the pathetic heap of fur that is his sister. the ginger tom let out a hefty sigh and sat facing the hills. "so" Robinpaw started. "why did you never come to see me". the question made Bearpaw jump to her trembling feet. whatever happened when they were younger, to their mother, was a sensitive and dangerous conversation. she fumbled for her words, not being able to complete a full sentence. a brief "no" escaped her lips as she lowered her head, her gaze flicking between the moss and the dirt below her paws. Robinpaw's annoyance grew and grew. his face twisted into a cruel scowl and his muscles tensed. Bearpaw continued to avoid eye contact with her brother. "let's just keep going" she mumbled. her paws were still aching, but she'd do anything to escape this conversation. The golden tom sprinted ahead, eager to recover their wasted time and Bearpaw trailed behind. through branches and bushes they continued forward
the mountains loomed steeply ahead, it's peaks distilled in a foggy haze as they reach far into the sky. ferns and shrubs littered the slopes, and the brief dash of wildlife flashed through the grass.
