The blonde girl in the white dress stood admiring the decorations that she had put up in the last three hours. Her hands were still stained from the blue paint but it was worth it. She had helped arrange the most awaited night of the year: The Homecoming Dance.

She went to join the rest of the decoration committee as the first group of students trickled in.

All the high school students except one were pumped up with excitement and were ready to celebrate the night. Noah had always been different from all the high school boys, he never really enjoyed such nights, and the 'Under the Sea' theme just irritated him for no apparent reason.

The room was bathed in a cool blue light, with hand painted fish cutouts hanging from the walls, and a very stupid looking giant octopus was hanging from the ceiling.

The room was half filled by the time Chris and Justin arrived with the rest of the swimming team, both in black blazers.

Katherine Lancaster followed them into the room, wearing a disgusted look and a completely out of theme bright red dress.

As she walked to the drinks corner, the blonde girl approached her and asked her with a proud smile, "So, do you like the theme?"

Kat didn't even bother looking at her, but she said, "It's disgusting. I would have preferred wearing my normal uniform rather than this. Who even comes up with these themes?"

"It was my idea."

"Well, next time come up with a better idea", she said as she walked away, leaving a shaken Amy behind.

Chris and Justin meanwhile, had their own problems. Chris, being the shy one, didn't want to enter the crush of students on the dance floor, and Justin didn't want to go alone too.

So they just stood sulking near the stairs, where Noah was reading a book, looking completely disinterested.

While the teenagers were busy in their own world, things were changing in the universe.

Something big was on its way, and nobody in Nioli High School that night, had any idea about the astronomical event that was going to completely change the lives of certain students.

The music and food were competing for the prize of 'Most Terrible', but everybody was still having a good time, with the sound of laughter and bad singing in the background.

Kat was busy eating a taco when her head started to hurt, like someone was hitting it with a hammer from the inside, and she couldn't stop it.

Her taco plate slipped from her shaking fingers and she clutched her head, hoping that the pain would stop.

Everything around her started to get blurry, and she desperately rushed out of the room to get some fresh air.

Out of the corner of her already confused vision, she saw Amy doing the same.

She thought it had to be the tacos that made them sick, or that someone had mixed something in the drinks as a prank.

Before she could realize that there were four more people out there with her, she fell to the ground and fainted.

Fifteen minutes later, five students picked themselves up from the ground, just outside the Homecoming dance floor.

They looked at each other, didn't say anything and walked back to the dance.

All of them felt weird, stronger somehow, more energized but they didn't pay much attention to that, and put the strange experience out of their heads.

They shouldn't have dismissed the incident so lightly, because from that moment onwards, some mysterious, supernatural power began growing inside them.
