CHAPTER 21
It was the last week of November. The weather was extremely cold. The five had decided to visit the creepy historic building that they had seen in their visions.
They had decided to gather at Kat's house and then leave for the search of the only lead they had in a very long time.
As they stepped out of the house, everyone began to shiver with cold. An extremely cold wind was blowing. But Katherine didn't seem to bother. She didn't feel a thing.
It was foggy and misty. The grass was covered with frost. Frost had killed all the flowers and vegetation. The trees stood naked. The temperature was very low.
They started their journey to the building in hopes to get at least some answers. According to Justin's uncle the building was located near the medical school downtown.
The downtown was crowded with people. It was a nice but slightly older place in the town. It gave away a fashionable yet shabby vibe at the same time.
"It's so crowded over here!" Chris shouts.
"Well what were you expecting from downtown. Just hurry up everyone, the sooner we get out of here the better." Noah replies.
The market roared with rage for it now was awake from its peaceful slumber. The shops were stuffed and street vendors made the street extremely narrow forcing people to walk in a straight file like soldiers going to battle.
Shops of all different species stood on either side of the street.
The deafening chaos in the market made ears split as if you were standing under a giant speaker. Women fumbled through the bags they carried and tried to tick on a list with a pen clenched between their teeth.
In between all the chaos the five finally reach the opposite side of the market. And reach the outskirts of their town.
"Thank god! Is everyone alive?" Justin asks
"Yep. All good." Katherine replies, trying to fetch a bottle out of her bag.
"Where do we have to go next?" Noah asks.
"My uncle told me that to visit the building you'll have to cross this small hill and then, you'll find it as soon as you reach the other side." Justin replies pointing to the hill in front of them.
"Okay then, Let's get this thing over with." Amy says as she starts climbing the hill.
The hillside was rather sloping, in the beginning. This side of the mountain was covered with a pine forest. The trees were incredibly high and thick; their knotted large roots cut the ground here and there, forming natural footsteps, making walking the terrain a little bit easier.
"How much more do we have to walk?" Noah speaks.
"I have absolutely no idea. But I'm hoping we're close." Justin replies
They keep walking through the trees, talking about random stuff. And wondering whether their visit would be helpful or not.
"We're here." Chris speaks in excitement.
Once again all five of them are standing in front of the same old building made of bricks, but this time it isn't a dream.
They start walking through the gates and enter the building, showing their entry passes to the security guards. The ground floor is filled with old artifacts and paintings like a museum.
Katherine decides to check the other floors and starts walking towards the stairs.
"Excuse me ma'am, you cannot go up there." She hears someone.
"Why? Isn't this a museum or something?" Kat replies.
"It is but the other floors are not accessible to the public."
"Fine." Katherine leaves rolling her eyes.
"Did anyone find anything? Any leads?" Noah asks.
"Nope. Nothing." Amy replies in disappointment.
"Well well well wasn't that such a waste of time." Kat says.
"Let's leave then." Justin speaks.
"No. Wait, there's something I still need to do." Amy speaks.
"What?"
"I'll be right back, till then just see the paintings or something and do not leave."
Amy leaves the other four in a confused state. Her mind is running fast as a bullet train and adrenaline in her body starts to shoot up. Because she was going to do something she had never even thought about doing. She was planning to sneak into the second floor.
She desperately needed answers, she couldn't bear all this anymore.
She stands beside the painting next the staircase, pretending to admire it waiting for the security guard to leave.
Fifteen minutes pass by and there's no movement from the security guard. She had to do something, she needed a distraction.
In the spur of the moment she decides to call Katherine.
"Hello. Where are you?" Kat answers.
"I'll explain it later, right now I want you to come to the room next to the one you are in and I need you to distract the security guard. We don't have much time. Hurry!"
Amy cuts the call without waiting for Kat to respond.
She turns around and spots Katherine at the other end of the room.
Katherine, not knowing what to do, grabs the metal vase near her. Everyone in the room is startled by the sudden bang of the vase hitting the floor. The security guard rushes to Katherine to make sure if she'd broken the vase.
Grabbing the opportunity Amy rushes up the stairs leading to the second floor. The stairway is dark and weirdly quiet. She reaches the second floor and spots a huge glass door. She sees a lab the one similar to the one they have in their school. Before she can see anything else, she hears footsteps.
Her heart stops.
She turns back to go down and sees the security guard standing in front of her.
"What are you doing here?" He shouts.
"I- I was searching for the washroom." Amy replies while praying she doesn't get caught.
"It's on the ground floor."
"Okay. S- sorry."
Amy starts descending the stairs, and thinks that something just doesn't fit well. She turns back one last time and sees something she never thought she'd see.
She doesn't believe her eyes. She rushes down the stairs and finds Katherine waiting for her nervously.
"Oh my god, what did you do? Are you crazy? You could've been caught." Katherine shouts at Amy.
"But I didn't get caught.bI'll explain everything. Let's just get out of this room."
They leave the room and go off to find the boys.
"I saw her." Amy speaks
"You saw who? And where?"
"I saw her upstairs on the second floor."
"Who did you see Amy?"
"I saw the teacher."
