CHAPTER 23

A cold wind scampered down the street as Amy pulled up the collar of her peach coloured coat. She reached out to her coffee flask and brought it to her lips. Steam curled before her twisting and darting away as she breathed out. The smell of coffee filled her nose as the blend of sweet and bitter rolled over her tongue. The sun's rays, though weakened by the season, provided little warmth.

She and Katherine had decided to visit the organisation building once again. But this time they had a plan. They had planned to talk to the watchman outside the building and try to find out as much information as possible on Dahlia.

They had spiralled into shock when they found out that their not so loving former teacher possibly works at the building. They weren't able to digest it, they were almost going to trust her with everything a few days ago. She was no longer a loving elementary school teacher, she was something more.

"What are you thinking about?" Amy asks Katherine pulling her out of her trance.

"Nothing. I still can't believe that she betrayed us like that."

"Don't overthink it, maybe she didn't ok. Maybe she was just visiting the building like us, as of now let's not put any conclusions to our theories. Just enjoy your coffee."

"Okay." Katherine nodded.

The coffee was the only thing that was helping Katherine pleasantly tolerate the crowded downtown.

"There aren't many people here today." Kat speaks.

"Yeah, it's probably because it's a Thursday evening."

It was a perfect Thursday evening, everyone was busy in their world's. Some of them happy, while some sad. Pedestrians around them hurried to and fro thoughts filling their minds like the beat of music in their ear.

They crossed the busy downtown and reached the foot of the hill.

"Let's go shall we?" Kat asked, gesturing towards the hill.

"Sure."

They reach the top of the hill and sit down for some time. The sky was spread out in front of their  eyes. They couldn’t help but rest and stare. There were lots of pinkish imaginary colours, purple was hiding behind. There was also grey, yet it was so calm. The colour was soft, just like a young girl. Some white clouds trying to ruminate. The sun was shining so confidently as if it wouldn’t go away. They couldn’t feel its warmth yet it glared with hope. The radiant was beautiful. The sunset looked so beautiful today, as if God painted that only for them.

"So, you and Chris huh? What's the deal?" Amy asks winking towards Kat.

"What are you talking about?"

"Don't play the innocent card now, I saw you two at Chris's party holding hands and stuff. I was going to mention this before but I probably forgot."

"He was just taking me to meet you guys. That's all."

"You sure?"

"Of course I'm sure. Plus he's Chris Watson he already has the entire school drooling over him. Not my type."

"If you say so, let's go then?"

"Yes."

They once again reach the organisation, but this time it's different they have to enter the lion's den on their own.

They move towards the watchman's cabin and knock on the window nervously, praying they don't get caught.

"Yes?" An old man answers.

"We wanted to ask about something." Kat speaks.

"Go on dear, what do you want to ask?" The man replies politely with a smile on his face.

"Actually my aunt works here, can I know when her shift ends as we have to go out." Kat lies.

"Sure, what's her name?"

"Dahl- Dahlia Fernandez."

"Let me check the logs, wait a minute."

"Sure."

The watchman goes through a dozen books and doesn't seem to find anything. A ray of hope shines on the face of both the girls thinking that maybe they were wrong.

Kat had never in her entire life wished that she was wrong this much. But right now she was praying that it wasn't the teacher.

"I'm sorry but there's no one named Dahlia Fernandez who works over here." The watchman said the words Amy and Kat were desperately waiting to hear.

"Thank god." Amy speaks in a slow voice.

"Wait, there's something I need to do before we celebrate." Kat speaks.

"Sorry for that, there must be some mistake. Can you recognise her if I show you her photo?" Kat asks the watchman.

"Sure."

Kat fetches her phone in her bag and shows the man the photo of the teacher just for a final confirmation.

"I know her!" He speaks.

Kat and Amy spiral into shock as they don't believe the words that just came out of the watchman's mouth.

"She's Agata Cortez. She has been working over here since the last twenty years."

A/N: Omg!! ;)
