The Encore
INT. "ENCORE CAFE", DAY
(The cafe is bustling with activity as various musical theater characters mill about, chatting and laughing with each other. The walls are adorned with posters and memorabilia from various shows, and the air is filled with the aroma of freshly brewed coffee and delicious pastries. In the corner, a group of Hamilton characters are huddled together, sipping on lattes and discussing the latest news from their show. Across the room, the ladies of Mean Girls are huddled together, giggling over a tray of cupcakes and gossiping about their fellow cast members. In the center of the room, a group of Les Miserables characters are seated around a table, sharing stories and laughter over a plate of croissants and a round of "Cabaret Smoothies".)
(The owner of the cafe, a bubbly and energetic woman named "Melodie", is bustling about the room, greeting customers and taking orders with a smile. She approaches the table of Les Miserables characters, a pad and pen in hand.)
MELODIE: Good morning, everyone! What can I get for you today?
EPONINE: Bonjour, Melodie! Can I get a "Broadway Baguette" with a side of "Dijon Les Mis-tard" sauce, please?
MELODIE: Of course, Eponine! And for the rest of you?
(The rest of the table place their orders, requesting various items from the menu such as "Encore Eggs" and "The Phantom Pancakes". Melodie jots down their orders with a grin.)
MELODIE: Got it! I'll have those out for you in no time.
(As Melodie heads back to the kitchen, a group of Heathers characters enters the cafe, drawing the attention of the Mean Girls group.)
REGINA: Oh my god, look! It's the Heathers.
KAREN: Gross, why are they even here?
GRETCHEN: Maybe they're just looking for someplace to hide from all the drama at their show.
(The Heathers take a seat at a nearby table, ignoring the snickering and whispers of the Plastics. Meanwhile, the Hamilton group is approached by a lone figure wearing a hoodie and sunglasses.)
EVAN HANSEN: Hey, guys. Can I join you?
AARON BURR: Sure thing, Evan. Pull up a chair.
(Evan takes a seat with the Hamilton group, pulling off his hoodie to reveal his distinctive blue shirt. As he settles in, he glances around the cafe.)
EVAN HANSEN: Man, it's always nice to come to this place. It's like a little slice of heaven for us theatre folk.
ELIZA HAMILTON: Definitely. And the food is always so good here. I can't wait to try the "Six-Layer Cake" for Hamilton's anniversary!
(As the conversation continues, Melodie returns with the group's orders, setting them down with a smile.)
MELODIE: Here you go, everyone! Enjoy your meals.
(The various groups dig into their food, chatting and laughing as they relax and unwind in the cosy atmosphere of the cafe. As the day wears on, more and more musical theatre characters filter in and out, creating a lively and welcoming atmosphere for all.)
(The Les Miserables group is finishing up their meals, chatting and laughing as they relax in the cafe. Jean Valjean, the former prisoner turned mayor, takes a sip of his "Cabaret Smoothie" before turning to the group.)
JEAN VALJEAN: So, what's the plan for tonight?
EPONINE: I heard there's a new bar down the street that's hosting karaoke night. Maybe we could check it out?
MARIUS: Karaoke? I'm not sure I'm up for that. My voice is still recovering from… you know.
COSETTE: I know what you mean, Marius. Sometimes I just need a break from all the singing.
(As they continue their conversation, the Phantom of the Opera enters the cafe, shrouded in his signature cloak and mask. He approaches the group with a nod.)
PHANTOM: Good evening, everyone.
(The Les Miserables group greets the Phantom with a mixture of surprise and reverence. Jean Valjean stands, offering the Phantom a seat at their table.)
JEAN VALJEAN: Please, join us.
PHANTOM: Thank you, Jean, truly. But I will hit the bar for now. A few problems with Christine.
(All of a sudden, six glamorous women walk through the door.)
EPONINE: Look, it's the SIX ladies!
CATHERINE OF ARAGON: Hey, everyone! We just finished a show and thought we'd stop by for some refreshments.
ANNE BOLEYN: Yeah, we could use some "We Don't Need Your Lattes" after that performance.
JEAN VALJEAN: Please, join us. The more the merrier.
(The SIX ladies take a seat at the table, joining in the conversation and laughter as the group enjoys each other's company and the welcoming atmosphere of the cafe.)
INT. "ENCORE CAFE", DAY
(Alexander Hamilton and The Phantom of the Opera are seated at the bar, nursing their drinks as they discuss their various struggles and problems. Alexander takes a sip of his "Rise Up Rum" before turning to the Phantom.)
ALEXANDER HAMILTON: Man, sometimes I just feel like I can't catch a break. My wife is always on my case about my work, my kids are constantly getting into mischief, and don't even get me started on the politics of the founding fathers.
PHANTOM: I know how you feel, Alexander. As the "Phantom of the Opera", I'm constantly having to hide my true identity and deal with the demands of the opera house. It can be quite isolating at times.
ALEXANDER HAMILTON: Yeah, I can imagine. But you know what helps me when things get tough?
PHANTOM: What?
ALEXANDER HAMILTON: Remembering that I'm not alone. We may be in different shows, but we're all in this together. We're all just trying to make it in this crazy world of musical theater… Also alcohol, that helps too.
PHANTOM: You're right, Alexander. It's always helpful to have a support system, especially in this industry.
(The two men clink their glasses together in solidarity, both grateful for the camaraderie and understanding of their fellow theater professionals.)
PHANTOM: To musical theater!
ALEXANDER: And alcohol!
(As they continue their conversation, the other musical theater characters continue to enjoy each other's company and the relaxing atmosphere of the cafe, grateful for the respite from the demands of their respective shows.)
INT. "ENCORE CAFE", DAY
(The Hairspray characters enter the cafe, drawing the attention of the other musical theater characters. Tracy Turnblad, the bubbly and energetic lead of the show, approaches the group with a grin.)
TRACY TURNBLAD: Hey, everyone! What's going on?
JEAN VALJEAN: Oh, just enjoying a bit of downtime at the cafe. How was your show tonight?
TRACY TURNBLAD: Oh, it was amazing! The crowd was really into it and we had a great time.
(Tracy's friends, Link Larkin and Penny Pingleton, join her at the table, taking a seat next to the Les Miserables group.)
LINK LARKIN: Yeah, it was a great night. I'm starving, though. I think I'll get the "Big Hair Burger" and some "Corny Collins Calamari".
PENNY PINGLETON: I'll just stick with a salad. I'm trying to watch my figure.
(As the Hairspray characters place their orders, the Mean Girls group approaches the table with a sneer.)
REGINA: Oh, look. It's the Hairspray crew.
GRETCHEN: Ugh, I can't stand that show. It's so dated and cheesy.
KAREN: Yeah, and those outfits are just ridiculous.
(Tracy and her friends ignore the Mean Girls, choosing to focus on their own conversation and enjoyment of the cafe.)
REGINA: What? Are you just… not going to say anything?
HEATHER CHANDLER: No, but we will.
REGINA: Ugh… as if!
HEATHER DUKE: You think we're bluffing?
REGINA: I'm not gonna take orders from wannabes dressed like traffic lights.
HEATHER MACNAMARA: Wannabe? We were here first.
The patrons chant:
PATRONS: FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT!
MELODIE: Hey! How about… you guys make up, or get out of my establishment?
THE PLASTICS AND HEATHERS GRUMBLE.
REGINA: Fine. We'll take three "On Wednesdays We Wear Pink Lemonades" please… and make it quick, because we have things to do.
HEATHER DUKE: Ugh. Fine. We'll have three "Meant To Be Yogurts" please.
HEATHER MACNAMARA: Eh… not feeling it today. I'll just take a water.
MELODIE: Just… water?
(pause)
HEATHER MACNAMARA: "Dead Girl Water…"
MELODIE: Thank you.
(VERONICA SAWYER joins them.)
VERONICA: Hey, whatever happened to the "Freeze Your Bran"?
MELODIE: The Raisin Bran flavoured Slurpee? It got discontinued.
VERONICA: What? I really liked that one!
REGINA: Not your fault no one else did.
HEATHER CHANDLER: Poser.
GRETCHEN: Grandma.
(The Phantom sits on a barstool and orders a drink. As he sips on his "Past The Point Of No Rootbeer", he looks around the cafe and sees the various musical theatre characters all enjoying themselves and having a good time. He can't help but feel a sense of nostalgia and longing for the days when he was a part of that world, performing on stage and bringing his music to life. But he knows that his show is closing. Those days are behind him, and he has to find a way to move on and find happiness in his own way.)
(As the evening wears on, the cafe begins to wind down and the patrons begin to say their goodbyes. The Hamilton group gathers their belongings and heads out, waving to Melodie as they go. The Mean Girls group follows suit, with Regina throwing a final, disdainful look at the Heathers as they leave. The Les Miserables group says their farewells and thanks to Melodie, and Jean Valjean hands her a generous tip before heading out into the night.)
(As the last of the patrons leave, Melodie closes up the cafe and heads home, grateful for another successful day at the Encore Cafe. The cafe may be closed for the night, but the memories and connections made within its walls will last a lifetime.)
