The Last Night
Maddy
"So, who'd you chat with?"
I ask Kari once we're back in our own apartment.
"Just a few people."
She says taking a bite of her sandwhich.
It's the last night before the Games.
We've trained, searched for possible allies, and tomorow we're going in.
We just got back from the interviews and I'll just say that they went more or less the way I expected.
For one thing, all the tributes openly expressed their "feelings" towards the Capitol for sending them back to the games.
I won't go into too much detail, but let's just say that they had to stop filming and had to calm down a mob of very angry people.
At one point I was expecting all the tributes to hold hands or something but we all kept our distance.
"What do you think Maddy?"
"Eh?"
I say snapping out of my thoughts.
"Allies? Who do you think we should team up with?"
Hm...
That is a very good question.
Thomas was cool I guess, but I don't really trust Minho.
"Barry."
I say.
"We can team up with Barry."
"Cool."
Kari says.
Then she just stares at me.
"Uh... What?"
"Go on."
"What'd ya mean?"
"What other allies have you picked?"
"That's all."
"What?"
I sigh.
"No one else was very chatty with me."
I take a bite out of the apple I'm eating.
"Well, I talked to some people."
"Oh really?"
"Yeah."
"Who?"
She looks nervous.
Weird.
"Jack, Will, and Legolas."
"Wow. Someone's popular."
I am impressed.
During their games, those three never talked to anyone.
They made no alliances either...
I wonder if they'd be willing this year?
"Do you think they'd make good allies?"
Kari asks.
"Half-a-Sorta."
"What?"
"They'd obviously make good allies. They all know how to fight and they're all very skilled in combat. Remember the rankings?"
The rankings had been shown earlier today.
I got a six out of twelve.
What can I say? I got pretty good with handling guns.
Kari got a seven.
Apparently Kari is good with a bow.
Anywho, Tony, Steve, Barry, Legolas, Tauriel, Jack, Will, and Katniss got twelves.
Everyone else hovered between nine and eleven.
"I'll try and work something out with Barry. But whether or not we have those other guys is up to you."
Kari ponders it for a moment.
"We'll team up with them."
She says.
"That is, if they want to team up with the lowest ranked tributes in the games."
I laugh.
"I'll talk with them before the games. See what I can work out."
"Okay."
Kari looks out the window overlooking the Captiol.
"Are we going to die Maddy?"
"There can only be one survivor Kari."
And no matter what, I'm going to make sure it's you.
>>>>>>>>>>>>
The morning came waaaaaaaaay
to quickly.
We got up, got suited up, and I lost my glasses.
Seriously, I couldn't find them anywhere.
I can't see two feet in front of me without my glasses so I talked to some people and they fixed the problem.
Turns out they weren't going to let me wear my glasses anyway.
They had made specially designed "contacts" for me to where.
I'd never have to replace them or anything, I'd just have to keep them on.
Except when I did put them on and went out of our apartment I nearly scared the livinf daylights out of Kari.
"What happened to your eyes?!"
"What'd ya mean?"
"They're grey! It's creepy!"
I laugh.
"Come on Kari, now I look more intimidating."
"It's weird!"
"Ok how about this."
"How did you do that?!?!?"
Yeah, I can change the colour of my eyes now.
Cool right?
I tell Kari about the contacts as we're led to our platforms.
The other tributes are standing around and waiting.
A PeaceKeeper comes by and injects trackers inti everyone's arm.
I have a thing about needles.
They terrify me.
I close my eyes and try not to think about it as the inject the needle into my arm.
Suprisingly it was over very quickly, but now my arm was sore.
I look around for the tributes I was supposed to speak to.
I spy Barry nearby and I walk over to him.
"What's up?"
I ask.
"Nothing much. Just about to be lowered to my supposed death."
He smiles.
"But other than that I'm good."
I laugh.
I look around to see if anyone else if looking.
No one is.
Good.
"I have something to ask you."
I say quietly.
"What?"
I tell him about teaming up in the arena.
"Just you?"
He asks.
"And Kari. Possibly three other guys."
"Who?"
I point to them and Barry nods.
"Alright, I'm in."
"Great. See you down there."
I walk back over to Kari.
"What'd he say?"
She asks.
"He's in."
"And the others?"
"That's all up to you my friend."
"What?"
"They already know you. Well, half-a-sorta. You can talk to them."
"Okay..."
"Better hurry."
I watch as she walks off and I wait for them to tell us to get onto our podiums.
I don't have time to look for Kari, I stand on my podium and watch as glass comes down and traps me inside.
Suddenly bright light fills the.room, I feel myself being lowered.
Then the light dims and I see the arena, a huge forest with mountains.
This was it...
Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to the 75th Hunger Games.
