10 // Break Your Heart
Chapter 10 - Break Your Heart
"Now listen to me baby
Before I love and leave you
They call me heart breaker
I don't wanna deceive you
If you fall for me
I'm not easy to please
I might tear you apart
Told you from the start, baby from the start
I'm only gonna break break ya break break your heart"
Rowing practice lasted for three hours, with no pauses. It was hard, especially after summer when I hadn't trained as much as I should. But once it ended we jumped off the boats and went for a quick swim. None of us was very energetic so we didn't stay too long in the river.
Me, Ellie, Roxy and Lori were all in the same class, but Cameron, who was 19 years old, was in Senior B class, so his practice was next.
"I can't believe you stayed here for three hours." I said to Dylan once I walked towards him.
"I like to see you rowing." Dylan replied with a smile. "Are you going to stay here or do you wanna go home?"
"I'm tired, so I'm just going to take a shower and change and then we can go home. Oh, and can you guard my shell while it's drying so I can put it on the boathouse later?"
"Sure." Dylan agreed and I said goodbye to the girls and went to the locker room. After I took a shower and changed I made my way towards Dylan. My shell was now dried and Dylan helped me store it on the boathouse. Then we reached his car and Dylan drove us home.
-------------------------
I don't want to, was the first thing that came into my mind the next day. It was Monday morning, and I hated Monday mornings. I mean, who didn't? They were scary and exhausting and stupid and mean. Especially when you're in high school and the two big jerks in school made a bet about you.
But I knew I had to go, I knew I had to face them, I had to look them in the eye like I had no clue about their intentions. I had to do all that and even more. I was a little bit scared to be honest, but there was no going back.
Reluctantly I got up from my bed, went to the bathroom, picked some clothes and went to the kitchen. My parents were already at work, so I was alone. I ate some milk and cereals, grabbed my bag and went outside. Dylan was petting Rusty in my garden and I smiled at them.
"Hey, guys." Rusty came to me happily and I gave him a bear hug.
"Hi, Kiara." Dylan aswered and Rusty barked in agreement. "Ready?"
"Yeah, let's go."
"Are you sure you want to do this?" Dylan asked me one last time.
"Dylan..."
"Fine. Let's go."
While Dylan was driving us to school we started talking about the famous Ice Bucket Challenge.
"I think we should do it." Dylan said "It's for a good cause."
"You're right, but I don't think we have to waste water in order to give money. It's like we are helping one cause but dishelping another, if that word even exists. After all, there are people dying because they don't have water and here we are spending so much water when we could simply give the money away. I feel like the whole ice challenge is just for media attention."
Dylan sighed.
"Kiara Raven. Why do you always have to ruin the fun of everything?"
I proudly grinned, but then got more serious.
"It's because I don't limit myself to do the things. I go deeper, I question them. Why do we have to do something just because others do? Why can't we be different, go against society?"
"Most people don't have that strong personality, so they just go with it. But not everything in our society is bad." Dylan noticed.
"Maybe your right. Maybe I just need to find that one thing that isn't all bad."
"Isn't that one thing called love?" Dylan retorted.
"I... damn you, Dylan Gordon." I said. He had left me speechless, but he wasn't one to brag.
"No. Damn you, Kiara Raven." He replied, looking at me from the corner of his eye.
I smiled. Everyone should have a friend like Dylan. And everyone should have love in their lives, because Dylan was right. It was the one thing that could overcome our crappy society, the selfishness, and the evilness, and the war and all the crimes.
"Earth calls Kiara." Dylan's voice woke me up from my thoughts. We had arrived at school and I couldn't help but feel a little nervous. Before I could say or do anything else though, I saw Ellie getting out of a car not far away from us.
Me and Dylan approached her.
"Hi!" I said "Are you coming to this school?" I was happy that she was, I finally could have one more friend apart from Dylan.
"Yeah!" Ellie replied enthusiastically. "I didn't know you studied here. I must say I was slightly anxious, but now that you're here, I know I'll be fine."
Dylan and I both smiled at her and then Cameron got up from the driver's seat.
"Hi, guys." He greeted with his sexy british accent. I noticed some girls around us eyeing him appreciatively.
"Cameron drove me here today because he hasn't started college yet." Ellie explained.
"This is a nice school. Dylan, I must ask you, from guy to guy, to keep an eye on my little sister. Don't let any jerk guy come near her, okay?"
Dylan smiled reassuringly.
"Of course."
"Cameron, that's not necessary." Ellie complained but only got from Cameron a smirk as a reply.
"I'll see you around. Happy first day, Ellie." Cameron got into the driver's seat and drove off the parking lot.
We had thirty minutes before classes started, so me and Dylan showed the school around to Ellie. Of course we had to encounter one of the jerks. This one was Matthew.
"Hello, Kiara." He greeted me with a stupid smile. "I didn't see you leaving the party on Saturday. You could have told me, I 'd give you a ride."
Only over my dead body, I thought.
"It's okay." I answered, trying to get my voice calm and normal. Out of the corner of my eye I saw Dlyan tensing up but I shot him an advertising glance. "By the way, Matthew, this is Ellie, she's English and she's new here. Ellie, this is Matthew." A stupid brat you should never meet, I mentally added but finally ended up saying "one of the most popular guys in school."
Matthew smirked at my comment and made a friendly smile to Ellie.
"Nice to finally meet an English girl." He commented.
"My pleasure." Ellie answered, her cheeks turning pink.
"I'm sorry, Matthew, but we have to go." I quickly said, grabbing Ellie by the arm.
"What was that for?" She asked in a very sharp English accent once we were far enough from the Golden Boy.
"When I said Matthew was one of the most popular guys in school I meant he was one of the biggest players in it. So I don't want you to go anywhere near him." I said.
"Are you jealous?" Ellie asked which made my eyes open widely. "Because he looked like he was your friend."
"I am definitely not jealous. I'm just warning you, he's up to no good." I responded defensively. How could she possibly think Matthew and I were dating? We didn't even have any kind of chemistry!
Dylan looked at me with a stare that said you-should-listen-to-your-own-words.
"God, you sound just like Cameron! I thought Dylan was the one to babysit me!" Ellie exclaimed, but she did not seem angry. She was just a bright and happy person. She couldn't stay mad for too long, I had already realized that. "But it's okay, I'll try to land my eyes on someone who doesn't have a girl yet."
I rolled my eyes.
"Oh, forget it." I sighed.

Matthew's POV
"I'm sorry, Matthew, but we have to go." Kiara announced and grabbed Ellie by the arm, pratically running from me. I smirked. Oh, Aiden, Aiden... Kiara was already jealous that I had other girls looking at me, so it wouldn't take that long to make her fall for me and then break her heart. Aiden had no chances. He might think all girls like the bad boy with a leather jacket who rides a bike, but I'm irresistible. After all, I'm the captain of the football team. And if there's someone girls love more than bad boys, is sporty boys.
Ellie was cute, and I would probably flirt with her if I didn't have to keep my head on the prize, which in this case was Kiara.
I must say she was being hard to get. No girl had ever resisted me this much, but that was also what made this game so fun. Yet I could tell she was already falling, otherwise she wouldn't have gone all jealous when she saw Ellie looking at me with such interest. Well, I guess that was just the way I was, all girls fell head over heels for me.
And Kiara would too. She was mine.
-------------------------
Kiara's POV
"What about him?" Ellie questioned, pointing at a guy that entered the hallway at that moment. How lucky was I. The other big jerk. Oh, Ellie, couldn't you choose someone else? Someone with brains? Yet I had to admit that in our school there were not many people with brains of their own.
Aiden saw us and his jerk smirk appeared on his face as he reached us.
"Hi, Kiara." He said and the flashback from when we were at Lia's party and he had told me about the bet passed through my mind.
"Aiden." I greeted. Aiden then looked at Ellie with curiosity on his eyes. Are you trying to see if she would make a better bet, Aiden-jerk?
"Hello there." He said in a husky tone.
Ellie smiled, blushed, looked down at her feet and then shyly replied "Hey."
Seriously, for such a bubbly and energetic person she acted really shy around boys, especially around stupid ones.
"I don't think I've seen you around before." Aiden continued.
"I'm new here. I'm from London." Ellie looked up at him with a small smile.
"Are all british girls as hot as you?" Aiden inquired and he looked truly interested in knowing the answer.
Ellie giggled. I rolled my eyes and crossed my arms over my chest, growing impatient. It was as if Dylan and I were not even there. And it would have been fine for me if she wasn't fancying a jerk.
Fortunately, and I never thought I'd be saying this, the bell rang.
"I'll see you around." Aiden winked at Ellie and turned around, not before locking his eyes with mine.
"Oh my God, he's so cute!" Ellie giggled. I looked at Dylan and words weren't needed.
"He's a player too, Ellie. And Cameron asked me to watch over you, so just stay away from him. And from Matthew. Nothing good can ever come from them."
Dylan was no longer looking at Ellie when he said the final sentence, he was gazing at me. But I forced myself not to think about that and entered my class.
-------------------------
Aiden's POV
"Are all british girls as hot as you?" I asked Ellie, flirting a bit. She giggled, but what really caught my attention was Kiara rolling her eyes and crossing her arms over her chest, visibly jealous. I was already affecting her when flirting with other girls, which was great.
I couldn't continue flirting with Ellie and try to see if Kiara would grow even more jealous because the damn bell rang. Always so inconvenient. Of course I didn't care if the classes started or not, but I knew Kiara cared about that and maybe if she thought I was changing a bit for her, trying to respect rules, she would fall even more for me.
Oh, Matthew, I thought, you really have no chance. You just can't fight against a bad boy. It was never fair from the beginning, Matty-boy, but it's true. No girl resisted the danger and excitement that a bad boy emanated, that was the ultimate true.
"I'll see you around." I said to Ellie, winking, and before I turned around I glanced at Kiara, who was staring at me as well.
After I turned around again and they couldn't see my face, I smirked. She was mine.
"And I know karma's gonna get me back for being so cold
Like a big bad wolf I'm born to be bad and bad to the bone
If you fall for me I'm only gonna tear you apart
Told ya from the start
I'm only gonna break break ya break break your heart."
The slideshow presents the new characters that I introduced in the previous chapter. Music is "Break Your Heart" by Taio Cruz and Ludacris. Absolutely love this song!
