An Old Friend Calls

Few days later, Jo and Lizzie sat on the sofa sipping on a cup of coffee.

Lizzie was wearing a top with a red leather jacket, a pant and some boots.

Freya blinks incredulously at the box of letter Klaus hands her "You collect trophies from all your victims?"

"I'm not surprise." Luke said.

"Letters to their loved ones, to be specific." Elijah clarified.

Klaus tries to ignore them as he starts to look through the letters "It was a phase."

Elijah rolled his eyes and said "A phase in which we were forced to learn a different kind of stealth."

He takes a seat in front Freya, Luke, Jo and Lizzie as he says "You see, over time, Niklaus' enemies grew so numerous, we had no choice but to artfully withdraw from the world."

Klaus gives Elijah an offended look.

"And then...Well, I wouldn't exactly describe our presence in this city as discrete. Wouldn't you agree, Niklaus?" He continued.

"We all saw the white oak destroyed! Plus, this city is crawling with vampires, all of whom had no choice but to shield me from potential foes! Were I to die, they would die, too. I couldn't have been more safe!" Klaus exclaimed in frustration.

Lizzie place her cup on the table, her eyes blinking in realisation.

"And now my sire link is undone. Those very foes will come for me... Like never before." He added.

" It's only been a few days since the link was broken. Must you jump into crippling paranoia already?" Freya sighed.

Elijah rolled his eyes, saying "It's a default setting."

Klaus scowled at them "And for good reason!"

Elijah stands to his feet walking over and spoke "Well, Niklaus, if it offers you any solace whatsoever, you've ransacked Aya's belongings, torched Aurora and Nora's hunting ground, and obliterated every last splinter of the white oak."

Klaus lowers his voice threateningly "I would be mad to believe that."

"Perhaps you should see a therapist." Elijah shrugged.

"It's okay, go to her. She can help you." Lizzie assured.

Klaus leaves the room silently.

"Every last splinter? You're sure?" Luke asked Elijah skeptically.

Elijah doesn't answer.

"I thought these last few days who could had stole the nexus vorti. And I thought one person would had done this." Lizzie told them.

"Who?" Faye asked.

"Davina. Think about it. She would do anything to bring Kol back. And using the nexus vorti would give the power she needs to bring him back." Lizzie told them.

Later, Lizzie heard Klaus rustling angrily in the study and Lizzie called out " Nik! Calm down."

"You don't understand." Klaus told her in fear.

Freya, Faye, Jo, Elijah and Luke stand in the room watching Klaus hysterically panicking.

"Then explain it to us." Lizzie says softly.

"Who?" Faye asked.

"A man named Gaspar Cortez." Klaus answered.

"I assume this is someone from your box of letters?"Jo sighed.

"The youngest son of a particularly vile family of warlords I dealt with in the 17th century." Klaus says, nodding.

"Didn't they burn that philistine pigsty into the ground?" Elijah inquired.

"Pigsty? Belaga was my favorite artist retreat! Someone had to pay for that, so I murdered Gaspar's brute of a father." Klaus asked.

"And?" Freya pressed.

"And one or two..." Klaus said.

"Five." Elijah interjected.

"Five of his bloodthirsty brothers." Klaus said, annoyed.

"Don't forget the mistress." Elijah smiled.

"That was an accident!" Klaus said, offended.

"Really? An accident?" Faye asked.

"The point is that Gaspar was but a footnote." Elijah explained.

"Until he became a vampire, hell-bent on hunting me." Klaus stated.

Lizzie fall to the sofa gracefully as she asked "This is not gonna end well is it?"

Klaus exhaled "He's a cunning deviant, known to compel hoards of the helpless to aid him with his tasks. You see, this is exactly what I was concerned about. Devils of all kinds, crawling out of their crevices to strike at me."

Klaus pauses when he hears footsteps and unintelligible murmuring approaching him with his hybrid hearing and scowls "Speaking of which..."

Lizzie hear the same footsteps and heartbeat of Davina Claire entering the compound.

"Rather foolish of you to come here alone." Klaus taunted Davina, as he pinned her against a support beam by the shoulders.

Klaus was thrown magically across the courtyard and saw Alabaster standing next to Davina as he said "She didn't come alone."

Elijah, Luke, Freya, Faye and Jo come downstairs to find out what all the commotion was.

" She didn't come alone, brother. Now Nik, I mean you did come after my friend."Kol said.

"It can't be."Klaus gasped in shock, seeing Kol.

"It's Kol. When I broke your sire link, it created a surge of power."Davina explained.

"You stole the nexus vorti." Freya says.

"And bought your brother from the dead!" Davina stated.

"You should be thanking her, really." Kol said.

Surprisingly, Klaus lunges forward and hugs Kol tightly, which both pleases and shocks Kol. Once they've pulled away, Kol turns toward Elijah and said "Hello, Elijah."

"You haven't aged a day."Elijah joked.

Kol turns to Freya, frowning as though he doesn't recognize her "And you...?"

"Freya."Freya introduced herself.

"Right. Long-lost older sister. Speaking of twists and turns in our family tree, where might Rebekah be?"Kol said.

"Kol, I'm gonna let you bond with your family. I have to go. I have a date with Jeremy."Davina said as she left.

Kol then says "Hello, Jo."

"Hello."Jo shrugged nonchalantly.

"Don't mind her. She do that thing when she..."Lizzie began.

"What thing?"Jo asked, cutting her sister off.

"Oh the thing where you're a bitch because you like somebody. It's pretty transparent."Lizzie smirked.

" I don't blame you, darling. I'm hot."Kol said, smiling at Jo.

"And so full of yourself."Jo says, rolling her eyes.

Later on, in Klaus and Lizzie's bedroom, Lizzie lay on the bed, Kol sat next to her reading Klaus trophy letter collection.

"Well, isn't this the welcome home. Already at the mercy of Niklaus, and just in time to help the rest of us clean up his mess. " Elijah asked joining them at the edge of the room.

"I'm used to it, being his twin and all of that." Kol said.

Klaus bursted into the room with a goblet full of blood as he says "Keep up your ceaseless whining, and I'm sure he will."

"Here. I compelled the housekeeper." Klaus said, as he hold out the goblet to Kol.

Kol stares at it before declining "Next time, a blood bag will be fine. I'm meant to be off the fresh stuff."

"Attempting to be a better man for your mate?" Klaus taunted with amusement.

"I'd rather be with that her alone to get to know her but since your enemies have returned seeking vengeance, I suppose they ought to be murdered. So remind me, who is this Cortez?" Kol told him.

"His family decimated Belaga." Klaus said.

Kol groaned a short laugh "Ugh! Belaga. That place was hideous."

Elijah smiled happily "Thank you, Kol!"

Klaus looks between Kol and Elijah, both appalled and exasperated by their opinions before he said "No taste. Either of you!"

Kol stands to his feet and grabs the letters before he said "All right, calm down. I know exactly how to find your enemies, as long as our new sister doesn't chafe at me for teaching her a quick spell."

Kol holds up the letters in his hands as he asked "Mind if I burn these?"

Klaus shrugged curiously.

Now in the living room, Freya, Lizzie, Jo and Luke were standing next to each other at the coffee table in the upstairs living room, where Kol is starting to burn the letters that Klaus used as trophies. Elijah, Faye and Klaus watch solemnly from nearby.

"Mixing the ashes of these letters with your blood, Nik, will show us where your enemies are." Kol explained as he crushes the ashes up with a mortar and pestle, and Freya hands him a gold goblet with Klaus' blood. Kol sprinkles the ashes into the goblet before handing it back to Freya, Lizzie, Jo, Faye and Luke. Freya, Luke, Jo, Lizzie and Faye pours the ash-blood mixture onto a map of the world, which is pinned down by white candles, as Kol pulls a spell written on parchment out of his jacket pocket and hands it to Freya, Jo, Luke, Faye and Lizzie.

"With feeling now." Kol smirked.

Freya, Lizzie, Jo, Luke and Faye laughs and gives him a look as they takes the spell from him. They takes a deep breath before reciting the incantation "Calaste piso tal tras es tros. Calaste piso tal tras es tros."

The blood starts to break apart into eleven small beads, which scatter across the map. Listed are the closest approximations: four total in North America (one near Chicago, Illinois; one in New Orleans, Louisiana; one in Southern California, and one in South-Central Mexico); one is in Southeastern Brazil; three are in Europe (Belgium, Southern Italy, and Western Russia); two in Africa (one in Nigeria; one in South Africa or Mozambique); and one in what looks like South Korea.

"Behold your greatest hits, Klaus. All over the world. But only one is here. Which means the legion of enemies you were worried about is an army of one." Freya commented.

"I assure you, this is your Gaspar Cortez." Kol stated circling the drop of blood over New Orleans.

Lizzie go to speak when she got a text from Cami saying "Problem. Rousseau's."

Lizzie blink with worry catching Klaus eyes and said "We need to go. It Cami."

"May I..." Elijah goes to intervene.

Ignoring his warning Lizzie went to the bar, Klaus beside her. They burst in to find a man hovering by Cami and Vincent.

"Cortez!" Klaus yelled slowly approaching him.

Lizzie silently follow behind her.

Klaus spreads his arms and said "Welcome to New Orleans. Long time no see. You've come all this way. You must be tired. Please, allow me the courtesy of putting you to rest."

"Klaus..." Cami whispered in fear.

Lizzie looked over to see three men holding knife to three other throats.

"Make a move, Niklaus, and everyone here will die. Or... You can wait for us all to learn the whereabouts of the white oak. Choice is yours. Either way, I win." Cortez threatened.

Lizzie glared at Cortez as he continued "So here's how this works. Everyone lives... once you let me leave."

"You can't expepct us to let you live, knowing you seek white oak."Lizzie scoffed.

"It's a shame how some vampires grow so dim with age. Killing you will be a mercy." Klaus grinned smugly.

" Kill me, and this quaint eatery turns into a slaughterhouse, shining a light on your town's more repulsive activities." Cortez shrugged.

"You know... I really liked Belaga." Klaus murmured glancing at Lizzie with a small nod.

She quickly rushed over pulling two men away slamming them into the wall, accidentally breaking their necks.

"No!" Cami yelled out.

Lizzie looked back up to see Klaus snapping the other's man neck, after penetrating a stake into Cortez's chest.

Cami runs over biting her wrist placing it to the man's mouth and said "You'll be okay. Just drink this."

"It won't help. They're gone. I'm sorry." Lizzie told her.

Cami stands with fury in her eyes glaring at Klaus and Lizzie, bumping her shoulder against Lizzie's as she stormed out of the restaurant.

"Bloody great." Lizzie grumbled spotting Cortez shifting on the ground weakly.

Lizzie rush over lifting him up before throwing him across the bar.

Klaus smashes a barstool gripping hold of its chair leg thrusting it onto Cortez narrowly missing his heart pinning him to the ground.

Lizzie closed the door to the now empty restaurant apart from Klaus, Cortez and her.

" I appreciate your patience. Now that your victims have gone, compelled by me to remember nothing of this night, the three of us can talk in peace." Klaus spoke as he crouches in front of Cortez.

He pulled out the stake holding Cortez against the bar as he asked "So before I end you, I just have one teensy little question. How did you know about the white oak?"

"There's no shortage of vampires who loathe you. Over the years, we've found ways of staying connected. The world evolved, and those connections became simpler... Stronger and instantaneous." Cortez smiled as he pulls out his phone and holds it up.

He drops the phone on the floor as he coughed a little blood his lips pulled into a sadistic smile "It started as a rumor on a private message board. Now, I've confirmed the truth for everyone. So, go ahead. Kill me. But I will die filled with joy. Your sired are coming, Niklaus! They will destroy everything you love. And then they will use the white oak to kill you. And at last, you will get the retribution you deserve!"

Klaus, now filled with rage, karate-chops Cortez's head clean off of his shoulders, but he is still terrified by his warning nonetheless.

"We need to get back to the compound. Now!" Lizzie mumbled, reaching for Klaus's hand before they went back to the compound.

Lizzie mumbled, reaching for Klaus's hand before she vamp speeding them back to the compound.

Lizzie pace the room listening to Freya chanting loudly over the map once again.

Elijah peers over "So this may only be a fraction of our potential enemies."

Lizzie walked forward standing beside Jo her eyes training on the drops of blood now heading straight to New Orleans.

"In hindsight, we could've been nicer to people. Or at least left fewer survivors." Kol chuckled.

"We don't know all their motivations. Half of these people could want to put the bullet in your heart! End the sire war with the pull of a trigger." Klaus says.

"I have an army devoted to keeping me alive. The only people that care to protect you are standing in this very room. As you well know, Nik, there is another way."Elijah sighed.

"You're going to run?"Freya asked.

"There was a time when the name Klaus Mikaelson was little more than a rumor. A shadowy figure who cast fear into the very bones of any who heard whisper of him. I don't run, sister. I disappear. And tonight, the three of you are going to make that possible." Klaus chuckled.

"While you and Lizzie run with Hope and Theo, just in case me and Jo will stay with Hayley and Jackson's house." Faye told them.

They all nodded.

Later on, Lizzie holds Hope and Theo tightly in her arms approaching Freya, Derek and Klaus.

"Is it done?" Klaus asked holding their bags.

" Yes. And now any witch who does a locator spell will believe you're right here in New Orleans." Freya says, nodding.

"You know, for all of his mischief, Kol truly is a master of his craft." Elijah smiled.

"Yes, well, drawing trouble is his forte." Klaus laughed.

"Thanks for the compliment. Don't stop driving 'til you're absolutely certain that you are safe." Kol says, entering the room.

"You don't have to remind me how precious my cargo is." Klaus smiled before hugging his brothers and kissing Freya on the cheek before he said to Freya "Keep them in line, would you, sister?"

Freya nodded.

Lizzie turned on her foot heading to the car, strapping Hope and Theo into the back seats. She climbed into the passenger side looking up out the window absently.

"Are you alright, Little siphon ?" Klaus asked igniting the engine.

"I'll be fine. I just hate fighting and having to be on the run. Why can't we just live in peace?"Lizzie sighed.

"We'll make it through, Elizabeth. I promise you." Klaus told her as he squeezes her hand reassuringly.
