Davina's Death
In the Compound, the next day, downstairs, in the living room, Lizzie, Hayley, Faye and Luke were sitting on the leather couches on the living room.
"The Italians call them strega. The Yoruba of West Africa call them aje, meaning mother. Where my mother was from, they called them häxa, and here we call them witch. Over the centuries, vampires have fought them and fought beside them, bedded them and burned them. Whether adversary or ally, they have been a force to be reckoned with. Their ancestral magic anchors this city. There's never been one all-powerful witch until Davina." Elijah explained, standing and in the middle of the room were the paintings Davina had made of Celeste on the coffee table.
"Who is now tucked in safe and sound down the hall under my protection." Klaus announced, walking into the study and stopped in front of the painting of the dead witch.
Faye was wearing a top with a jean jacket, a jean and some boots.
Lizzie was wearing a sweater with a pant and some booots.
"Under your protection my ass."Lizzie scoffed, rolling her eyes before she said, leaning forward at the drawing, taking one of the corners between her fingertips "She's pretty, Elijah."
"And a portent of evil, according to our volatile artist in residence." Klaus added, looking up at his brother with a small smirk pulling at his lips.
"Yes. Perhaps Davina's mistaken what she calls evil for power. Celeste was certainly very powerful in her day, but she's been dead for over two hundred years. I don't understand. Why all these sketches now?" The noble brother said, observing the drawing.
"Why does any witch do anything?" Klaus replied as he looked at Lizzie.
"Don't look at me. I'm not a real witch, remember? And neither are Luke or Faye. They love reminding us. But this isn't random. The ancestors are sending a message ... just wish they'd stop being cryptic about it."Lizzie said.
Suddenly, there was a loud thud followed by the sound of breaking glass coming from outside the study and Lizzie felt an energy. The adults looked up at the fighting between Marcel and Davina from down the hall.
"Well, that's going well." Klaus said, sarcastically with a smug smile.
"If you were trying to win the girl's trust, perhaps poisoning her one true love was not the most splendid idea." Elijah told Klaus.
"Oh, are there any more inopportune deaths you'd like to wave in my face?" Klaus asked, chuckling.
"Give me a month. I'll get you list." Elijah says, sarcastically.
"That'll be a long ass list."Luke mumbled under his breath.
Klaus let out a scornful laugh as Kiara ginned, amused at the Original vampire's comment. The light and the mocking atmosphere changed into annoyance when another loud crash echoed through the house.
"Young, old, dead, or alive, witches are a pain in the ass." Klaus said, rolling his eyes before standing up.
Lizzie said, nodding "That might be the smartest thing you've said."
Lizzie got up from the couch as well.
Lizzie walked past Davina's room hearing commotion coming from inside. Shrugging her shoulders she go to enter her room when she hear Marcel call out Davina with concern.
She quickly burst in, Klaus following close behind her, her eyes blinking in shock seeing Davina cough up dirt.
Klaus instantly complained " What's with all the racket?"
He then stopped "Bloody hell."
Lizzie rubbed Davina's back gently, saying "It's alright, D., let it all out."
Davina paused for a few seconds the entire house shaking dangerously, a crazy earthquake envelopping the French Quarter. Lizzie glanced at Marcel in complete and utter shock before she whispered the sleep spell which knocked her unconscious "Somnus."
"What did you do to her?!" Marcel asked.
"A sleeping spell. Relax." Lizzie told him.
"This clearly has something to do with the harvest."She then says.
Marcel frowned walking out of the door.
Later, Lizzie arrived into the study and greeted Sophie with narrowed eyes.
"What the hell is she doing here?"Lizzie asked.
"Easy."Faye said.
"We have a huge problem. I thought that we had more time, but we need to complete the Harvest now." Sophie stated.
"Said the desperate witch, conveniently."Luke mocked, taking a sip of alcohol from his glass cup.
"I'm serious! That earthquake you just felt is a preview of the disaster movie that is about to hit us." Sophie urged.
"Why should we believe you?"Elijah asked.
"Or anything you say in the matter?" Luke questioned.
"You could be lying."Marcel accused.
" You've met Davina, you know her story. For months now, she's been holding all the power of the three girls sacrificed in the Harvest ritual. A force that was meant to flow through her and back into the earth. One person was never meant to hold that much power. It's tearing her apart, and it will take us down with it." Sophie explained.
Lizzie ran a hand through her hair, already knowing another death was coming.
That evening, Lizzie was with Hayley, helping load supplies. They were headed to the bayou to help the wolves. They were halfway out the door when Klaus blocked their path.
"What are you two doing?" Klaus asked them.
"We were gonna take these to the..."Hayley started.
"If you say, 'Bayou,' I will find a nice comfy dungeon and throw you in it." Klaus cut off.
Hayley rolled her eyes and said "Is that a threat or an invitation?"
Klaus told her "This is not the night to be wandering around. Hayley, you may be a hybrid, but let me remind you... Elizabeth is not."
"Nik, I'm not Rapunzel. You're talking about Davina, not me."Lizzie snapped.
"It's not the night to be out here for anyone, Klaus. But some people don't have a choice."Hayley said pointedly.
Klaus exhaled sharply, then gestured toward the supplies "Right. Grab that lot and come with me."
Hayley watched him walk toward the entrance and glanced at Lizzie.
"Come on." Lizzie said before they followed after Klaus.
The weather was chaotic with wind blowing and thunder lightening the sky, but they managed to arrive at St. Anne church with no one dying, Klaus had taken the cardboard box filled with cans from Lola, and she had let him without complaint. Klaus was also holding Lizzie as he felt she was tired.
Entering the church, Father Kieran immediately noticed them and walked toward them after reassuring the werewolves at the front.
"We still haven't gone through all that you've already provided, Klaus." He said, taking the two boxes of cans from the original hybrid.
"Well, this newest bit isn't from me." Klaus replied, stacking the boxes onto Father Kieran from Hayley. The Marshall glanced at Lizzie, utterly confused and slightly suspicious.
" Oh? That's very kind of you...?" Father Kieran said as he handed the boxes to someone before looking back at Hayley.
" Hayley. And these people are?"Hayley says, staring at the priest and glanced around the church.
"I asked Father Kieran to give them shelter. He suffers from an incessant desire to do good. But now, I need you to be useful. Marcel and Davina have disappeared. I assume from the stupefied look on your face they haven't sought refuge in your attic." Klaus answered and grinned as he continued.
"No. Those days are gone." Father Kieran says, shaking his head.
"Then energize your resources. I don't need to remind you how important it is they be found." Klaus insisted.
"He says that with a please and thank you at the end."Lizzie smiled.
"Of course." The priest smiled back before walking away.
Klaus looked at Lizzie with a raised eyebrow.
"What? He's been helpful so far. No need to be rude about it and have him stab you in the back later. And be nice would make you have more allies you know. Just saying." Lizzie asked.
"These people, they're werewolves... And the priest, he said that you donated the food. You helping them?"Hayley frowned, voice laced in confusion.
"I thought that was obvious."Lizzie told her friend.
"They're not your werewolves. They're my clan from very far back. They've fallen upon hard times, and their plight has brought out the philanthropist in me. What can I say? Must be Elijah's influence." Klaus told the Marshall girl.
"What do you mean, your clan?" Hayley asked.
" The blood that runs in their veins runs in mine. And in me and Lola's children." Klaus expained.
" This family gets more complicated by the second."Hayley huffed.
Klaus sighed"Listen, Hayley, word of advice when dealing with Elijah? Don't do as I do. Just apologize. He's accomplished in many things, but he is a master of forgiveness."
After leaving the church, the three had made their way back to the compound. They joined Rebekah and Elijah, the latter had thought of the brilliant idea to use Esther's bone to make Sophie an Elder.
Rebekah rolled her eyes at Elijah as she said in disbelief "It's taken one thousand years, but you've finally gone mad. Our own mother?"
"He has gone insane, hasn't he, Bex?"Lizzie added as she scanned Elijah up and down for any sign of a weird witchy curse that may have turned him certified insane. Esther was a big no-no for Lizzie, that psycho bitch would probably come back and try to kill them all, again.
"Yes, our beloved mother, who Niklaus has affectionately placed in a coffin in his basement... not daggered, but quite dead." Elijah told them, sending Klaus and Lizzie a shake of the head as they found amusement in that.
"Well, she did try to kill us all." Klaus shrugged his shoulders.
"Well, I say we put her to use and put her to rest once and for all. Now if we bury our mother on land owned by one of her descendants, she becomes a New Orleans witch, and we, as her family, share in that ancestral magic." Elijah told them.
"We're vampires, Elijah. We can't practice magic or own property, for that matter." Rebekah told him as she tried to reason with him.
"Yes. With regard to practicing magic...And, as for owning property, not all of our mother's descendants are dead..." Elijah agreed.
"The babies." Klaus realized.
"The babies. The parish Tax Assessor's office is just steps outside of the Quarter. Lizzie now holds the title to the plantation. So, if we bury our mother there, and we consecrate those grounds, we can finish the Harvest ritual." Elijah confirmed.
"You're a bit of a mad genius, Elijah. Count me in." Klaus told his brother.
Rebekah looked annoyed, so she says "Am I the only one thinking? Our mother was the most powerful witch in history. If we bury her, we hand that power to our enemies to use against us."
"She does have a point."Lizzie agreed with Rebekah.
"Given our circumstances, I hardly see that we have a choice, Rebekah." Elijah told his sister as he crossed his arms over his chest.
Rebekah said in frustration "I don't know why I bother. You three will just do what you want anyway."
"No. Our decision must be unanimous." Elijah told them.
"This is not a democracy." Klaus said angrily.
" You're quite right. This is family. Water. The next sign's begun. Rebekah?" Elijah said and his siblings stopped talking when they suddenly hear the sound of a powerful rain storm that is pouring down on the house.
Rebekah sighed "Kill a demon today, face the devil tomorrow. Count me in."
"Lizzie?" Elijah asked the siphon girl.
Lizzie shrugged "I couldn't really care less with what you do with it, go for it."
"Well, this is no family reunion without our mother. I'll fetch her." Klaus smirked as he leaves the living room.
Later, Klaus, Elijah, Lizzie, Sophie, and Father Kieran were waiting in the backyard of the plantation house, where they've dug a grave for Esther, when Rebekah arrives to join them. It's still pouring down rain, and they're all standing under umbrellas
"Did you find them? Will he bring her?" Klaus asked.
"He'll bring her." Rebekah says, nodding sadly.
" Are you ready to do this?" Father Kieran asked them, holding a cross.
Klaus brought out a knife from his jacket and turned to his sister.
"Always and forever." He smirked before slicing his palm, letting his blood drop on the red casket with the Mikaelson emblem.
Rebekah, Elijah and Lola copied his actions and Lola handed the knife to Father Kieran. He walked around the casket and threw the knife inside before announcing " It's done."
Lizzie headed back to the house so she could leave for the cemetery where the rest of the Harvest ritual was to be performed.
Now, everyone including Luke, Hayley and Faye were waiting at the cemetery for Marcel to arrive with Davina. Lola shivered slightly as the rain continued to fall. She looked down at her hand when she felt her mates hold it. She gave them a small smile before turning around when she heard flames erupt near the entrance of the cemetery. Suddenly, Marcel appeared in front of them with Davina, sickly in his arms.
He stepped into the cemetery with fire trailing after them on the ground. Everyone's eyes stayed on them, and Lola was more than prepared to make sure that even if Marcel changed his mind, Davina would still be here. Once arriving at the altar, Marcel gently set Davina down with the other three Harvest girls with slit throats and unnaturally pale. Sophie then held the ceremonial athame over the flames that appeared and headed toward Davina.
Lizzie stiffened, knowing what was to come.
"Do you believe in the harvest?" Sophie asked with a monotove voice.
"I believe." Davina says, nodding nervously.
Lizzie winced as Sophie, without a second thought or hesitation, raised the blade to Davina's throat, slicing it. Lizzie grabbed Klaus arm, tightly, and it didn't go unnoticed Faye's gasp nor how Rebekah had turned away from the altar.
Marcel made sure to grab Davina before she dropped to the ground as rain and lightening surrounded them. Suddenly, after the young witch took her final breath, the rainfall and lighting ceased. Klaus led the umbrella he held for himself and Lizzie fall to his side as she noticed the familiar red glow of magic on Davina's arm fade away.
Sophie, emotionless as ever, waited for Marcel to lay Davina's body with the other three dead witches on the altar. They all gathered in front of it as the ritual continued.
"After the Harvest comes the Reaping. Their sacrifices made and accepted. We call upon our Elders to resurrect the chosen ones. " Sophie said aloud.
Lizzie looked down at the four girls, waiting for them to rise from the dead. After a moment, Lizzie looked at Sophie, who was already looking at her. The witch took in a deep breath and repeated her words.
"Please. I beg." Sophie pleaded.
The siphon girl pursed her lips as Sophie began to cry. Lizzie hoped Davina would rise. She glanced at Marcel, who stayed quiet and held such a painful expression, Lizzie had to look away as she felt Klaus pull away from her. He kissed her on the lips before diappearing from her sight to go after Marcel.
When Klaus returns home, he finds Marcel in the courtyard, angrily throwing furniture into the walls. Klaus approaches Marcel to try to calm him down as he said "That won't bring her back, you know."
"This is YOUR fault! I should have never let you anywhere near her!" Marcel shouted.
"Marcel." Klaus whispered.
"This city was fine before you came. We were fine! Davina was safe, she was in control! If you hadn't gotten her worked up, if you hadn't killed that boy!" Marcel said.
"My condolences the girl is gone. But don't lose perspective. We still have our community. The vampires of this town..." Klaus told him.
"I don't CARE about the vampires! She is dead! Do you hear me?!" Marcel cut him off.
Klaus, overwhelmed, hugs Marcel tightly as he begins to sob and he says "I'm sorry. You may think I know nothing of your grief, but you are wrong. In the days after I fled this city, I thought you were dead. It was years before I could speak your name, so keenly did I feel that loss. I'm sorry. I'm sorry."
Marcel cried.
Later, Klaus, Lizzie, Luke and Rebekah were in the study together.
"This whole thing was doomed from the start, you know? Yes, we saved the city, and I'm not complaining about the witches losing their power, but this did not go down the way I thought it would. You surprised me, though. You were quite resourceful today. How did you find them down at the docks?" Klaus told his sister.
"You're not the only one with clever little spies in the quarter, Nik." Rebekah smiled impishly.
"Sometimes I think I don't give you your due, little sister." Klaus said.
"I knew Elijah's plan was mad, but I really thought it would work." Rebekah sighed sadly.
"So did I. I was sure Davina would survive. There was so much life in her." Klaus replied.
"What about the power?"Luke asked.
" Four were supposed to rise, and none did. Where did all that power go?"Lizzie stated.
None of them had an answer.
