Heart Shaped Box
Two weeks later, Klaus is on the balcony overlooking the courtyard, where it initially seems as though he is speaking to someone standing next to him.
"The taxpayers of New Orleans deserve a skilled Chief of Police. How inept are you if not a single one of your men can locate the woman I seek?" Klaus said as he was holding a man in a police uniform in a choke-hold off of the balcony with one hand while he sips a cup of coffee with the other. The police chief squirms and gasps for breath with a terrified look on his face.
The police chief pleads with Klaus as he dangles over the courtyard floor "We're trying. She's a ghost!"
"Aurora de Martel is rather petite and may indeed be able to slip through the cracks like a wicked little cricket, but she is not a ghost. Not yet. I think this city's finest could try a little bit harder, hmm? "Klaus sighed.
Lizzie walk behind Freya, Luke, Faye, Elijah and Elijah towards Klaus, blinking in annoyance.
Lizzie was wearing a top with a leather jacket, a jean and some boots.
Faye was wearing a top with a jean jacket, a jean and some boots.
"I see we're in for another normal Mikaelson breakfast." Freya sighed.
Lizzie rolled her eyes.
"Niklaus, for Heaven's sakes! Release the poor creature." Elijah says, narrowing his eyes.
Klaus shrugged letting go of the policeman's neck allowing him to fall to the courtyard floor.
"That's not what he meant!" Faye told him angrily.
"He'll live! And he'll remember to do better."Klaus told them.
"Is all this torture necessary?" Luke asked as they all enter the study.
Lizzie breathe in Marcel's scent letting out a deep sigh.
"Where have you been?" Klaus asked.
"I was making sure that the Strix and their witches are out trying to find your loony ex-girlfriend. Is that okay by you?" Marcel said.
"Guys, please." Lizzie told them.
"All of our heads are on the chopping block because he lost the one thing that can kill an Original." Marcel says in annoyance.
Lizzie scoffed.
"It's not his fault that Cami was waving the white oak around like a kite, or that Aurora made a deal with one of your witches." Freya defended.
"Oh, yeah it is..." Marcel started.
"I'm quite capable of defending myself, thank you, Freya. What I cannot do is cast a spell to find Aurora and Nora. In that respect, we're alike."Klaus cut him off.
Lizzie stepped forward placing a hand on Klaus chest preventing him from advancing on Marcel or Freya.
"Klaus, enough with the bitchy comments." Luke told Klaus.
"Aurora and Nora are cloaked. Most likely by the very witch she killed. I have been working nonstop every day." Freya sighed in annoyance.
"Well, you've stopped working now, haven't you? Well, go on. On your way." Klaus relents.
Freya gives him a scathing look before she replies "Do you talk to our other sister like this?"
Klaus blanches, clearly guilty, and Freya gives him a cold look as she says "Didn't think so."
Freya turns and storms out of the room. Klaus looks as though he feels bad for her and tries to stop her "Freya..."
Elijah turns and gives Klaus a look before he changes the subject "What do we know about this traitor in the Strix coven?"
"Nothing. No one knows how Aurora got to her. No one knows where Aurora and Nora. Our coven hit the same cloaking spell as Freya." Marcel sighed.
"Your coven? Making yourself quite comfortable with the Strix, aren't you?" Klaus chuckled.
"Yeah. Yeah, to help you." Marcel said, annoyed as he goes to leave but Klaus gribs hold of his arm and asked "Any other news from your new BFFs you'd like to make us aware of?"
"Niklaus. Why don't we reserve any malevolent intentions for ex-girlfriends?" Elijah interrupted.
"Sounds like a lovely idea." Lizzie smiled brightly leaving the room.
Lizzie had went to see Jo at the Rousseau's while Faye had went to see Jackson and Hayley.
"Faye went to see Hayley and Jackson. She put a protection spell on their home in case the Strix attack again. And you will happy to know Hayley is going to have a baby girl." Jo smiled.
"That's good to know."Lizzie told her.
Klaus approached.
"How did you find me, Nik?" Lizzie asked.
"You always come here when you want to think or be alone."Klaus pointed out.
Jo turns and looks at Klaus, part curious and part suspicious before she asked "What do you want, Nik?"
"Aurora and Nora are still at large. No doubt plotting her revenge. She used Camille to get to me once. She may do so again. And, Cami is rather vulnerable. I'd like to provide some safeguarding." Klaus sighed.
Jo thinks about this for a moment before she responds "Isn't that your job?"
"For Elizabeth, yes. Camille... No. Not anymore." Klaus frowned.
"Fine. Lizzie and I will do it together."Jo says, nodding slowly.
Later, Lizzie barged into Cami's apartment spotting her sprawled out on the sofa reading some tatty yellow book.
Lizzie stared down at her, Jo joining her side as Lizzie said "Your doorbell is broken downstairs."
"I keep forgetting to compel the shady landlord to fix it. Next time, text." Cami says, unamused.
Cami shuts the book and walks toward the Parker sisters until they're face-to-face and says "You could get hurt, sneaking up on someone with a stockpile of dark objects."
Lizzie says, rolling her eyes " Was it worth it? Risking the lives of, oh, every vampire in existence over your petty fight with Nik and I?"
Cami scoffed walking over to the bookshelf putting her book away "And here I thought this was a social call."
"More like a wake up call, Cami. You haven't been yourself lately, and in your less-than-sane moments, you have been putting the people that we care about in danger."Lizzie explained.
"See, I sort of thought I had proven myself. I did risk what was left of my life to save yours. And maybe what I need is some space...to deal with this whole... I don't know, being dead, drinking blood, living forever...If you have come to lecture me, save it. I have been lecturing myself for weeks!" Cami said irritably.
"You're right. Is this your coat? Great. You don't need a lecture, but Lizzie and I are gonna take your ass to school."Jo says, lifting a jacket from a chair.
Later, Jo tug open the large oak doors to Marcel's fight gym, tossing her jacket onto a nearby bench.
"So this is you taking me to school?" Cami commented with sarcasm.
"There is a fight coming, Cami. That's what the prophecy says." Jo sighed.
"And you're not gonna be much good to the home team if you're just standing around, waving a bunch of antiques." Lizzie agreed.
Cami rolls her eyes and scoffs as she pulls out what appears to be a small wooden box and says "Huh. You see this? This will paralyze anyone who tries to attack me."
"And like I told them, without them, you're weak and pathetic and it would prove you can't survive a fight without them." Lizzie scoffed.
"Lizzie! How rude Lizzie is , she's right despite how hard she say it. You need to learn how to defend yourself." Jo scolded.
"Come on,Jo, everyone knows a baby vamp is borderline useless. Even Josh could wipe the floors with me. I need these." Cami said.
"She is not saying throw them away. This used to be a church, right? And then it got condemned. If Marcel hadn't seen the possibilities, someone would've bulldozed it and turned it into some generic chain store. It's still a church. But it's also something more. I'm a heretic, but I'm also a wife and a mom and a part of the Gemini coven."Lizzie says.
"I'm a powerful witch, and part of the Gemini coven. But I'm also a sister and an aunt. And a doctor and a professor of medicine."Jo added.
"You are a psychologist. And a bartender. And, yes, you have some insane family legacy that comes with a bunch of cool toys, but... If you don't embrace the fact that you're also a vampire now, you're gonna end up dead. For real, this time." Lizzie says, nodding.
"You know, I'm not used to being on the receiving end of solid advice." Cami admitted.
"Well, you caught me on a good day." Lizzie shrugged.
"So now what?" Cami asked.
" We're gonna get in that ring and you're gonna try and punch me." Lizzie grinned.
Jo watched from a far sitting on the bench observing Lizzie trip Cami up shoving her against the chain fence.
"Again." Jo called out.
Cami turns and swings at Lizzie, who once again dodges her hit before vamp-speeding behind her and pinning Cami's arm behind her back for a moment before shoving her against the ring.
Jo stand up and said "Come on, post grad, you can do better than that."
Cami, getting frustrated and aggressive now, lunges at Lizzie at vampire-speed and goes to punch her, but Lizzie swats her arm away and grabs her in a choke-hold, raising her up in the air before throwing her into the wall.
Before Lizzie can even react farther, Cami vamp-speeds toward Lizzie, tackles her, flips them so that Lizzie is on top, and then kicks her across the ring, where she's thrown against the wall and bounces down onto the floor. Rather than looking mad, Lizzie actually looks impressed as she wipes the blood from her mouth and the two stand to their feet to catch their breath.
"Well done, Cami!" Jo grinned brightly.
"We keep that up, you might be giving Josh a run for his money." Lizzie agreed.
They both step out of the right.
"Hey... Thanks for coming to find me today." Cami smiled.
Lizzie rolls her eyes as she wipes her bloody lips on her top as she said "Oh, don't get all mushy on me. You're a bartender. You can thank me with a beer."
"Deal." Cami said.
Cami laughs, visibly happier than she was earlier, but their conversation is interrupted by the sound of Lizzie's phone ringing. Lizzie grabs her phone and answers it when she sees that it's Davina "Hey."
"Lizzie, you have to listen to me. Aya's witches are coming to kill you."Davina says.
"What?" Lizzie asked.
Before Lizzie can even process this, the doors to the gym open as the Sisters walk into the room in a single-file line. Lizzie's eyes widen at the sight of them, and she turns back to look at Cami and says "Get out of here. Right now!"
The new lead witch, a pale blonde, thrusts her hand out in front of her, which sends Lizzie flying backward so hard that the back wall of the ring is completely knocked down as she lands on what used to be the sacristy.
Cami looks horrified as Lizzie rubs her side and groans.
The witch repeats the movement and sends Lizzie flying against the back wall of the church until she bounces off onto the ground. Lizzie's vampire face comes out in anger as she tries to pull herself to her feet, but the Sister thrusts her palms downward to telekinetically pin Lola face-down onto the floor. Cami and Jo rushed over to where Cami's bag landed next to Lola and pulls out the dark object from earlier, setting it on the ground in front of the blonde Sister. The lid of the box spins, and the blonde Sister is immediately paralyzed by it long enough for Lizzie to stumble to their feet. However, when a second Sister enters, Jo kicks her in the stomach hard while Lola grabs some jump ropes from the wall, which she uses to strangle and snap the neck of the paralyzed witch. Unfortunately, a third Sister enters and casts a pain infliction spell on Cami that knocks her out before turning to Lizzie and using her magic to break her bones one at a time.
Suddenly, Lizzie starts to choke as the witches use telekinesis to try to rip Lizzie's heart out, which causes a bloody stain to appear on the front of her shirt before she falls to her knees and shrieks in pain.
The two remaining Sisters hold their hands out, one still breaking Lola's bones while the other tries to remove her heart, but Lizzie groans and pushes through it, while Jo teleported toward them. However, they simply increase the potency of their spell, and this time both Lizzie falls to her knees in agony once again.
Furious at their attempt on her life, Lizzie raises her voice to yell at them "Oh... You want my heart? Then come and get it!"
The witches continue to break Lizzie's bones to cause them debilitating pain but suddenly, the Sisters are forced to stop their spell when they're suddenly overcome with pain just before they collapse onto the floor. Lizzie gasps in relief and tries to catch her breath.
Aya suddenly strides into the room.
"I thought I smelled arrogance." Lizzie says, rolling her eyes.
"I think you meant confidence. But I can understand how the uneducated are apt to confuse the two." Aya said smugly.
"Yeah? You want to tell me what your dead-eyed drones want with my heart?"Lizzie asked.
"It's nothing personal. I just value my life above yours." Aya says as she lunges for Lizzie but before she could Liv push out of the way and says "Last time we fought, you took me by surprise. I can promise you that I won't be so easy to defeat this time."
Aya and Liv fought. Liv send the vampire flying with her magic, Aya tried to fight back but Jo used her magic then to break the vampire's bones and Aya screamed in pain. Jo then was casting a spell to rip her heart out but then suddenly Marcel arrived and stopped the spell as he yelled "Don't!"
"Are you serious, Marcel, she tried to kill me?" Lizzie scoffed.
Marcel says to Aya "You takes her heart, you start a war."
"Don't let your association with heretic trash cloud the opportunity before you." Aya spat.
Lizzie fought Aya and Marcel get between them and says "The Mikaelsons will kill us before you can even light the candles on that spell!"
"There is no alternative." Aya said.
"You're wrong. Give me a few hours to set this thing straight. Or push me out of the way and condemn yourself and everyone else in the Strix to a slow and painful death. I want to be de-linked just as much as you do. Give me the chance to do it the right way." Marcel told her.
"Bring me a solution by midnight, or I will rip out your heart right before I come back and take hers." Aya says as Jo stopped the spell away and she screamed in pain and Aya vamp sped away.
Once Lizzie and Jo had put Cami into her bed in her apartment with a bottle of bourbon along with a note on her bedside table, they went to the compound.
"What the bloody hell happened?" Klaus asked.
"The attack was about breaking the sire link. Marcel told us Aya's witches already have a spell to do it." Jo sighed.
Klaus asked, looking at Lizzie "And how does your heart play into all of this?"
"Hayley and I, we're the only un-sired vampires in history. " Lizzie shrugged.
" And apparently, that's the key to making it work."Jo added.
"And yet, Marcel neglected to mention it this morning."Klaus scoffed.
"Hey! Ease up. He tried to save us. You should had seen Jo, she kicked Aya's ass with her magic." Lizzie defended.
"But the Strix might yet come for you." Elijah stated.
"Let them. I'm not an easy target. They'd be better off trying to find some witchy workaround."Lizzie huffed.
"Unless they already have." Klaus frowned.
"They need Lizzie's heart. Or one that's identical to it."Jo mumbled.
"You remember Dwayne was turned by our kids' blood when I was pregnant and Tyler kidnapped me to test the theory that the kids could sire hybrids. When he was killed, she buried his heart in the Bayou."Lizzie closes her eyes and sighs deeply.
"We need to dig it up." Aurora's bullet very nearly killed Elijah. When she returns... and she will... I would prefer the vampires of New Orleans be obligated to protect us. They'll be more likely to do so if our lives remain linked to theirs."Klaus said as he disappeared.
"Nik is right. The sire-link has to remain unbroken. We have to go." Lizzie agreed.
They had arrived to the spot where Dwayne's heart is buried.
Hayley looks angry as she kneels in front of the sapling where she buried Dwayne's heart, which has already been stolen by someone else.
"Who would steal his heart?"Hayley asked as she stands to her feet, and as looked at Klaus, Elijah, Lizzie and Jo who stand behind her.
Elijah slowly walks over to Hayley to comfort her by rubbing her back, saying "We'll find who did this."
Jo added "And return the favor tenfold."
Hayley sighs as she and Elijah stare down at the dug-up hole where Dwayne's heart was once buried.
Elijah looked at Lizzie and asked "What is it?"
"I can think of only one person who could had done this. Marcel."Lizzie told them.
"Why?"Hayley asked.
"To stop Aya from killing us."Lizzie stated.
