Chapter 11: Yibo's acting
As promised comes here the next chapter.
I hope you will enjoy it :)
Yibo's POV
During the journey back home no one said a word. Once we arrived I took a long shower before I was called down for dinner. Father did not once utter a word but I knew it was only a matter of time before he would test my knowledge.
After dinner he signaled me to follow him into the living room. He turned on the TV and after I sat down he took out a few papers.
"You better be prepared." He only said before asking me various question about different topics regarding the laws in Myanmar and the royal family. I only had two questions wrong but even that made him glare at me. Thankfully there was no punishment and I sighed in relieve.
"Are we done? Can I go upstairs?" I asked and tried to not sound too annoyed.
"Did you memorize the script?" He ignored my question.
I was about to answer him but he got distracted by the evening news. I too looked towards the TV and saw my brother's house. A reporter stood in the living room together with Yang Zi, my brother and her father. My brother looked everything but happy and I guess it was not only because there were camera men and reporters in his house but also because his wife was clinging onto his arms while smiling into the camera.
Reporter: "Right now, we are having an interview with Yang Lu Feng, the owner of various 5-star-restaurants. Mr. Yang, we are happy to finally be able to interview you after the news about your purchase went viral. Is it true you recently bought a painting of Sandro Botticelli?"
Mr. Yang: "Yes, its true. I bought La nascita di Venere by Sandro Botticelli. You can see it hanging over the fireplace behind me. Isn't it a beautiful piece of art?"
Reporter: "Yes, it is really beautiful but also very expensive. May I ask you how much you paid for it and the reason for the purchase?"
Mr. Yang: "I never thought I would buy something this expensive. I cant tell you the exact price but there were a lot of zeros in it. As for the reason for the purchase.... Well, once I saw it in Florence I fell in love with it immediately. It took me several months before the previous owner decided to sell it to me."
Reporter: "Mr. Yang, if you fell in love with it, why did you hang it up in your daughter and son-in-law's house? Wouldn't it be more logic to hang it up in your own house?"
Mr. Yang: "That is true. Unfortunately I had no space left... After I saw my Yang Zi starring at the painting for a long time with sparkling eyes I decided to hang it up here. It fits perfect and I can come anytime to look at it. Moreover it suits Yang Zi very well. I mean, my daughter is like the reincarnation of Venus, don't you think?"
Yang Zi: "Dad! Stop it..."
Mr. Yang: "Why? Its true. You are as beautiful as her."
Reporter: "Mr. Yang, you seem to love your daughter very much. You even gifted her this expensive Painting."
Mr. Yang: "Yes, I really lover her. She is my only child and whatever she wants, I will give it to her. I knew she wanted that painting just as much as I, so I gifted it to her. Moreover, I heard this painting brings luck to the owner. The wife of the previous owner was told she cant receive a child but one month after he got this painting, she got pregnant. I hope my daughter will be as lucky as her."
Reporter: "Is that the main reason for the purchase?"
Mr. Yang: "No, I really fell in love with the painting and that is why I bought it. But ... you could say that story of the previous owner was the main reason for me to gift it to my daughter."
Reporter: "Well, I too hope we will hear good news soon. May we film the painting a little closer?"
Mr. Yang: "Sure, sure. But please be careful! Its very important to me."
Yang Lu Feng stood proudly next to the painting while both were filmed. Yang Zi had a flushed face while clinging onto my brother even more. As for my brother.... You can imagine how he looked right now. I could understand. He was basically forced to finally knock Yang Zi up. He was no better off than me.
"You see that? They are married for two years and he still was not able to get her pregnant. Lu Feng's biggest wish is to have a grandchild and I bet your brother knows that by now. How can your brother be this useless.... " Father grumbled and looked at me. "Did you see your schedule?"
"I did." I said, trying to calm down the anger in me which was quite difficult being around my father while listeing to him.
"Good. Then you saw we decided to give your three weeks for your honeymoon. You better use them wisely and spend a lot of time together with Yi Fei." He warned me and I jumped up in anger.
"We are humans! Not machines to impregnate woman!" I yelled at him and he glared at me.
"Humans need descendants! Especially in our family it is important to have children with important persons. Your great grandfather was poor and could not afford anything. He was mocked and harassed. He swore to himself that in future his family, our family, will succeed in life and climb up the society higher and higher! That is the mission our family has. With you marrying the crown princess is the first step our family will take to have royal blood. Once you have a child ... it will be official." He said to me. I heard this life story of my great grandfather, my grandfather and my father too often. I couldn't hear it anymore!
"I don't care about this damn mission. I only care about-"
"Shut up! You will fulfill this mission or else you know what will happen! Someday even your brother will have a child with Yang Zi."
"Is that all you care about? So what if he has a child with her? What then!?" I yelled at him.
"I will have him or her marry someone from the presidents family. That way we-" He started to tell me his plans with a big smile on his face but I did not want to listen to it and run up to my room.
'The mission of our family.... I don't care!! I don't want children... I don't want them to get through the same thing as me and I bet my brother is the same...' I thought devastated.
I may not be able to prevent the wedding but I will prevent to get the princess pregnant. That way I will take revenge on my father! 'Maybe I should get sterilized or something .....?'
Before I totally went crazy I decided to go to sleep. Tomorrow is the damn press conference and I have to act according to the script. That alone gave me a headache.
13. April
It was 8:30 am and I sat in the TV Studio waiting for the press conference to start. I did not read the script anymore as I already memorized it. The only thing I was unsure about was my acting skills. Liu Yi Fei would arrive any moment together with her father. I asked myself what my father told her where I was in the last 10 days. I mean, I doubted he told her he sent me to jail to prevent another escape of mine.
"Yibo!" Someone called me and when I turned around I saw the princess walking up to me with a bright smile. I stood up and wanted to bow but she stopped me. "No need to do that, Yibo. We are no strangers." She giggled and I suppressed the urge to roll my eyes. 'Not her giggling again... Whats is she even saying? We are strangers!'
"Good morning, Yi Fei." I greeted her friendly. "That is not quiet right what you said. We only met once so we are strangers."
"True... but we fell in love and are about to marry. So we cant be called strangers anymore, don't you think? By the way, your father told me you learned about our culture, our laws and royal etiquette in the last week. I cant believe you did this for me.... Was it difficult? Is there anything you don't understand? I could help you." She offered. In the background stood our fathers watching us so I smiled at her.
"No. I understood everything. But thank you." I answered.
"Your welcome. Once I heard you are learning about my culture, I too read a lot of books to understand yours. Its not that much different though... But I would like to know more about your daily life, your hobbies and your preferences, Yibo. I bet you are just as curious about mine."
"Ah... Hm ... we have enough time to talk about that later. For now lets just finish the press conference."
"Right. I heard you never did one before. Don't worry, its actually pretty easy. But if you need help, I am here for you. Just say what you have to say and then we will end this. Alright?" She asked me gently and I nodded at her.
Just then it got hectic and the producers told me to be on standby. Our Father's joined us and soon the reporters entered the studio. Everyone took out their notebooks, microphones and cameras and 5 minutes later the press conference started. Master Henry, who also directed the press conference last time, entered the stage and started his speech.
"Welcome, Ladies and Gentleman. Today is the day everyone waited for. The future King of Myanmar, his highness Wang Yibo, will held his speech and tell us how he met and fell in love with the beautiful crown princess. Behind me you can see everyone seated and I would say, we start right away. Your Highness, let us hear your story."
When he called me highness, I almost flinched but managed to stay calm. I smiled at him and then into the camera. 'Let's finish this as soon as possible.' I thought and stood up.
"Thank you, Master Henry. Please do me one favor and stop calling me your highness. I did not marry the princess yet and the title therefore does not suit me." I said as politely as possible before turning towards the reporters and cameras. "Hello everyone. My name is Wang Yibo and before I tell you the story of me .... falling love, I would like to remind you that I never did a press conference before so if I make any mistakes or say something inappropriate, please forgive me." I said and heard a few reporter laughing.
"Your- I mean, Mr. Wang, please feel free to tell us everything in your words. I think I speak for us all when I say that we don't mind if you make mistakes." Master Henry said and nodded at me.
'And I think my father has a different opinion...' I thought before smiling back into the camera.
"Thank you." I took a deep breath. 'Lets see how good of an actor I really am....'
"As a few of you might know I tend to say whatever comes into my mind and sometimes.... well, it does not suit everyone. I am sorry in advance if that happens today as well. It seems only my future wife is fascinated by this fact or why else did she fell for me?" I asked and laughed embarrassed. 'My acting is not that bad actually....'
"I don't really know what to say. Yi Fei already said how everything started.... But I will tell you all my point of view. If it gets boring, please tell me." I winked into the camera and everyone laughed silently. "My father asked me to bring him a few documents he forgot at home. Of course I brought them to him as fast as possible as I did not want him to loose the important deal he was making at that time. At the restaurant I was led to his dining room by a waitress who thought... , I guess she was fond of me and therefore started to flirt with me.
I was never in a relationship or in love before. But I watched a lot of movies and therefore knew quite well how flirting looks like. Moreover, it was not the first time that someone took an interest in me. I am not trying to brag about this. I am just trying to be honest, I swear!"
The studio was filled with laughter and I forced a smile as well.
"Her flirting was not important to me as I had no interest in getting a girlfriend or getting married. But that was before I met Yi Fei that day. When I rejected that waitress as politely as possible, my fiance was watching me from afar. It was a coincidence that she left the woman's room that time. She behaved .... different than other women. Usually they would come closer and try to flirt with me as soon as they set their eyes on me, that is one of the reasons why I am not often seen in public, but Yi Fei did not do anything. I found that interesting." I explained and saw the reporters writing down my speech.
"But as I had to bring my father the documents, I had no time to talk to her and went straight to my father's room. I stayed there for about 5 minutes to introduce myself to his business partner, which happened to be my future father-in-law, the king of Myanmar.
Once I wanted to leave, I bumped into Yi Fei when she was about to enter the same room and I apologized immediately. She was not angry but even said it was her fault too.... Which woman would do that?" I asked everyone but answered my question on my own. "I saw a lot of woman on the streets yelling at the ones who bumped into them. Only Yi Fei behaved different and I was ... pleasantly surprised.
Isn't she lovely?" I asked and looked at her with a gentle smile which she returned with an embarrassed smile.
"What happened then?" A reporter dared to shout and Master Henry immediately signaled him to be quiet.
"While I was still thinking about Yi Fei the whole day and night, I was kind of angry when my father told me I would go on a blind date the next day. I did not know that time why I was so angry. I mean.... It was my first time in love. With a woman I did not know.
When my father said who my date was, I was ... really excited! It took me around three hours to find something to wear as I wanted to impress her. Who said only girls need hours in the bathroom?" I asked and winked at the camera while once again the studio was filled with laughter.
'This is way too cheesy. I think I might throw up any moment...' I thought disgusted.
"The whole restaurant was reserved by my father and I was happy about that. That way I would only embarrass myself in front of her..... and not in front of the whole restaurant." I smiled to Yi Fei as written in the script.
"You did not embarrass yourself, Yibo. Dont worry." Yi Fei smiled and nodded at me reassuringly.
"I did not have to be that nervous actually because the evening went flawless.... Well, except my nonexistent dating experience. I hope I did not bored you, Yi Fei..." I took her hands in mine and she shook her head with a smile.
"Not at all." She answered.
"Except that and my bluntness by telling her whatever came into my mind, the date was perfect. Just the part where she told me her identity was .... horrifying. Who would expect to dine and fell in love with a princess!? I wished someone had told be about that earlier... God, I was I scared that I might have been disrespectful....
When I went home I actually tried to forget her and even hoped she would not let me be executed. Yes, I googled that! There is nothing wrong in wanting to be sure I wouldn't die anytime soon...." I said and this time it took a little bit longer for the reporter stopped laughing.
"Not in my wildest dreams did I expect she also fell in love with me.... and when my father told me about the proposal, I thought he wanted to tease me for my unsuccessful date. But no! It was true, Li Fei indeed asked for my hand in marriage. I have to be honest, for me it was quiet embarrassing as it should be me proposing to her, but I agreed immediately before she would change her mind again." I explained and turned fully to Liu Yi Fei. I pulled her closer to me and looked deep into her eyes. 'Almost done...but the worst part is still coming' I thought nervously.
"Yi Fei, I hope you don't mind the fact that I have no experience at all. When I do or say something that hurts you.... I am sorry and please tell me right away. I will do my best so that it will not happen again. I really hope you will never regret the decision to marry me. You are the best thing that happened to me." I said to her. 'Lie! Lie! LIE!!!' My mind and heart was screaming but I ignored it for now to concentrate on my acting.
"Yibo, I never was so sure about my feelings and decisions as this time. I know you are not experienced but that does not matter. I like that I am your first love... your first in everything. If I get a little impatient or react intrusive, forgive me too. I will try to not be too exaggerate. Thank you, Yibo. For agreeing to marry me." Yi Fei said emotionally and a few tears run down her cheeks. 'I feel bad for pretending and lying to her. I can see her feelings for me are sincere... but I cant tell my heart whom he should fell in love with and with whom not. Moreover, no matter how bad I feel right now.... She is at fault for my current misery! She should have come to me regarding the proposal and not doing it over our fathers!' I thought. Just then I heard my father clearing his voice silently. I knew what he wanted me to do. The last part of the script.
"Stop crying, Yi Fei. Today is a happy day." I told her, leaned in and washed her tears away before gently pressing my lips onto hers. She was surprised with my action and stopped crying right away. Then I felt her smiling before returning the kiss while hugging my neck.
I kissed her the same way as Zhan-ge showed me. I did it exactly the same way and while doing so I realized that Zhan-Ge was wrong! He said once I learned how to kiss, I would start to like it and even get addicted to it. When he taught me how to kiss I actually felt like that. I really liked it a lot, even if I wouldn't say that out loud.
But just now that was not the case. I did not like this kiss nor am I getting addicted to it. Its totally different than what Zhan-ge said. Which means liking it and getting addicted to it ... this seemed to only apply to the first kiss.....
After a minute I stopped and retreated. The princess blushed strongly and hid her face on my chest. I looked at my father and who nodded satisfied.
I felt tired and wanted to leave.
When Yi Fei calmed down and found her posture she looked at me. She widened her eye a little before turning toward Master Henry, the reporters and the cameras.
"Ladies and Gentleman, I think Yibo is a little shy right now. I would suggest that I will speak now." Yi Fei said and smiled.
"Princess, please tell us a little bit about your plans until the wedding." A reporter said while I sat back on my seat. My head hurts...
"Smile!" My father hissed and I followed his order.
"We planned almost everything. The coming weekend Yibo and I will select our wedding grown and look for a location. We already have a lot of offers but the decision where the wedding will be held will be ours." Yi Fei explained. "On 24th April we will held one last press conference where Yibo will present the crown. Reporters are not allowed to enter the studio until 10 minutes before the press conference starts. I would like to advise you to go to your assigned seats and not wander around. I can assure you, you will not be able to get a picture of the crown until Yibo will enter the stage wearing it. So there is no need to even try." She said and winked at a few guilty looking reporters.
"Where is the crown now?"
"Still in Myanmar and it will stay there until the day before the press conference." This time it was the king who answered.
"What else is planned?" Another reporter asked.
"The next weekend Yibo and I will fly to Myanmar where Yibo will finally be able to see his future home, the royal palace. Are you excited?" Yi Fei turned to me and I forced myself to smiled at her.
"I cant wait." I answered. She smiled happily and went back to her seat.
"On 1st May the wedding will be held here in China. As I said earlier, the location is still to be chosen. On 2nd May, Yibo will move to Myanmar and on 3rd May the coronation will be held in the palace in Myanmar." Yi Fei explained and took my hand into hers. "Are you okay? Tired? Shall we stop the press conference?" She whispered worriedly.
"If that is possible, then lets end it here. I am tired and my head hurts a little." I admitted and she nodded.
"Ladies and Gentleman, we will accept one more question. After that the press conference will have to end. My fiance is not feeling well." Yi Fei said.
"I would like to know if a honeymoon is planned as well?" A female reporter asked and my father nudged me with his elbow.
"You will answer!" He whispered and I sighed before standing up.
"Yes, we will fly to the Caribbean for three weeks. I hope you will let us have a little time for ourselves instead of following us." I said and the reporters laughed happily.
"No problem. I think we can manage that. I wish you a happy and ... successful honeymoon in advance." The female reporter said and I frowned hearing her emphasize the word successful.
"With that being said, the press conference will officially end here. A lot of you already applied for the press conference on 24th April but there are still a few seats left. Those who are interested still have the chance to get one. I wish you all a good day." Master Henry announced and bowed to the reporters. I followed his example before leaving the stage.
"Yibo, are you okay?" Yi Fei asked me worriedly and I nodded.
"Yes, I just need to rest and take something against the head pain." I answered.
Yi Fei then took my hand and walked towards her Rolls Royce and gently pushed me inside before joining me.
"Yi Fei, darling. Where are you going?" The King asked her confused.
"Yibo is not feeling well. I will take him. We will drive a little around the city."
"But Yi Fei, you-"
"Qilin, let them have a little time for themselves. They will marry soon anyway. Yi Fei, just go and have some fun." My father said softly and my heard hurt a little more.
"Thank you, father-in-law. I will bring him home punctual, I promise."
"No need. Take your time." He answered and Yi Fei signaled the driver to drive off.
"Here, please take this!" Yi Fei said and gave me an aspirin. It was a strong one but I gladly accepted it as it felt like my head would burst any moment. Then I leaned back and closed my eyes. The driver turned on the radio and I listen to the soft tunes of Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata. Slowly I got tired and soon fell asleep.
I dreamed about my time in jail. I guess I actually liked it there. Sure, Zhan-ge was a pain the ass most of the time but .... I somehow wished I could go back there. Away from my father and this damn upcoming wedding. I would prefer Zhan-ge over my father anytime.
The dream changed and I saw my brother and Zoey together. Both did not seem to see me but they looked very happy. Yuan stood between them. He saw me and waved. I waved back before the three of them walked away. I wanted to follow them but was unable too. It felt as if I was letting them go but instead of crying, I ... was calm.
Then I woke up. The sun was about to go down and I was still inside the car. The driver was gone and the radio was turned off.
"Are you awake now? Feeling better?" Yi Fei asked me and only then did I realize that my head laid on her lap while she was gently caressing my hair.
"I am fine. Thank you." I answered and sat up. She helped me.
"I am glad. You looked a little pale earlier. I guess you don't like it to do press conferences..."
"I don't. I hate it actually. I like it when its quiet and I have my peace."
"I am sorry. I did not know." She apologized and I heard she was sad.
"It not your fault." I answered.
"I promise the press conference on 24th April will be the last for now. Even if I cant promise you don't have to this anymore in future, I will try my best so you don't have to do them often." She said and smiled.
"Thank you. I would appreciate that. We should go home now."
"Sure." Yi Fei agreed and called the driver, who stood outside the car the whole time, to drive them home. We arrived 30 Minutes later and when I looked at the clock it showed 7 pm.
The car stopped in front of house house and I wanted to step out but Yi Fei stopped me by grabbing my hand. I looked at her confused.
"Yibo, if there is something you don't like or you are unsatisfied with.... You can talk to me anytime. I will not be mad or anything. I understand we don't really know each other but sometimes falling in love does not mean we have to do so. It just happens....But I hope until the wedding we can get to know each other better." Yi Fei said and I nodded.
"We have a lot of time until the wedding. We will meet often the next weeks so we naturally get to know each other better. You know I tend to say what I want. I will tell you once I am unsatisfied with something. Don't worry." I answered. 'Its not like I can tell her I don't want to marry her. But I will definitely tell her about my real feelings. Not right now.... but sometime later.'
"You are right." She laughed and leaned forward before kissing my lips softly. "Goodnight, Yibo."
"Goodnight." I said, stepped out of the car and once the car was gone, I frowned and wiped over my lips.
When I turned around I saw my father standing at the door smiling at me satisfied. I passed him, walked up to my room, took a shower and went to bed. Despite sleeping in the car for almost the whole day, I still was tired. Moreover in a few hours I will go to the pastry shop before attending university and in the evening I still have my job in the night club.
It will be a long day......
3rd POV, 9pm at the House of Haikuan and YangZi
"I will go now. I have a lot of appointments tomorrow." Yang Lu Feng said to his daughter while they were standing in the living room. Lu Feng and Yang Zi spent the whole day together in the city.
"Okay. Good luck." She answered with a smile
"Where is Haikuan?"
"I am here." Haikuan said and walked up to him. His mood was not the best after he saw the press conference of his little brother this morning. He was worried about Yibo and decided to call him on the next day.
"What are you going to do tomorrow? I heard you are on vacation for the next 7 days?" Lu Feng asked his son-in-law.
"That is right. I don't know yet what I will do." Haikuan answered truthfully.
"Then how about you take my daughter and go on a trip? I know you were quite busy the last months and I fear my daughter will get bored if this continues. YangZi, what do you think?"
"Spending time with my husband sounds good but I don't want to go on a trip, father. Its enough that he has a few free days and will have time for me. We could make ourselves comfortable at home." YangZi answered happily.
"If that is what you want..." Lu Feng smiled and turned towards the fireplace, where La nascita di Venere by Sandro Botticelli was hanging on the wall. "Isn't it beautiful...?" He mumbled and Yang Zi chuckled.
"Very. Thank you for gifting it to me, Dad." She said and her Father winked at her before turning towards the door.
"I will go now. See you." He waved at his daughter and son-in-law. Then he left.
Haikuan bowed and turned towards the painting. 'I don't get it why everyone likes it so much.... Its not even that beautiful.' He thought.
Yang Zi watched Haikuan for a while before walking up to him and hugging him. "Isn't it beautiful? Do you think the painting will bring us luck too, like the previous owner? I really hope it does." She said softly.
"Don't be ridiculous. That is just a superstition." Haikuan answered.
"I believe in it, Haikuan. Just think about it. We both would be perfect parents. Our child would have everything it can dream of. It would be the happiest child on earth." Yang Zi said while stroking over Haikuan's back. Haikuan understood that his wife was really believing what she said.
"Stop it! I am tired." Haikuan sighed.
"Okay, lets go to bed." Yang Zi answered excitingly but Haikuan immediately interrupted her thoughts.
"Separated!" He said strictly, freed himself and was about to leave when someone rung the doorbell. The unhappy looking Yang Zi walked towards the door but when she opened it, there was no one.
"Who is it?" Haikuan asked and followed her. But he too couldn't see anyone. "A prank?"
"It wasn't a prank. Haikuan, look here." Yang Zi said curiously and picked up a white envelope without a sender. She opened it and a picture fell out of it.
It was a picture of the painting La nascita di Venere and on it was a signature.
"What does that mean?" Haikuan asked confused.
"I-its him! The Halfmoon Thief!" Yang Zi stuttered.
