The Hands That Hurt Us- Part 17
Taehyung took a step towards Jungkook and gestured to hug him, but Jungkook stepped back again and wanted nothing to do with it. "I said don't touch me."
"Why not?" Hobi furrowed his brows.
"You lied to me. All of you." Jungkook tried to bite his bottom lip to stop it from quivering as more tears flooded out of his eyes.
"No no no. Listen," Jin started and turned to manager Shik, "Tell him this was an accident. Tell him what you did. We didn't do this to him, it was you."
Shik took a step toward Jungkook and he backed away further. Namjoon didn't ignore the fact that aside from looking angry, for a second Jungkook had looked even more terrified than he already was. He needed Jungkook to know all of this was an accident. He didn't want his youngest to be afraid of their boss now, he was hoping all of this could be cleared up quickly.
"Setting you up here was an accident. I was unaware of what I had done. Your members did not know about this, and neither did I," Shik started.
Jungkook knew Shik was a liar. All he ever did was lie. He didn't believe him. He didn't believe Shik had done this on accident, and he didn't believe that his members didn't have something to do with it.
Jungkook turned to Namjoon. "You let him do this." Namjoon's heart broke. Technically yes, he did let Shik do this. He let Shik handle setting up the appointment with no hesitation and even gave Shik the therapist list. Tears were now spilling out of Namjoon's eyes. "You're right. I did. I'm sorry."
Yoongi spoke up. "Don't blame Namjoonie. He didn't know this was going to happen. None of us knew. We never lied to you. Bunny we're all very sorry, but we didn't know."
They all stared at Jungkook hoping he'd finally accept their apology, but he continued to stand there and stare at them. He didn't care what any of them had to say right now. They could apologize all they wanted, but he didn't want to hear it because in his mind they were all lying.
Jin turned to manager Shik. "I think maybe you should go now," he gestured.
They were all very mad at their manager and figured now that they had Jungkook back, it was best if he left them alone for now.
"We need more time off," Namjoon told Shik. He wasn't asking him. He was telling him.
"You guys are already really behind schedule. You can't keep taking time off. We have things to do," Shik protested. He wasn't going to gain title as one of the top leading managers in the industry if the group was falling behind on work.
Jimin chimed in. "Right now Jungkook's health is more important than the opinions of others. Namjoon hyung is right. We are taking time off."
"At least just a few days," Namjoon suggested. He knew how behind they were, but a few days off was needed. Especially for Jungkook right now.
"Fine." Shik crossed his arms and stood there silent for a moment before stating, "I'll be going now." He could tell they were all waiting for him to leave. As he turned to leave he smiled to himself the whole way out. He was ruining Jungkook and he absolutely loved it. Now he had Jungkook even hating his own hyungs? Priceless.
"Bunny, please..." Taehyung went to hug him but Jungkook wasn't letting anyone touch him. What Taehyung wouldn't do for a hug from his maknae right now. He thought he might have lost him forever, he needed the reassurance, but realized he wasn't going to get it.
"Can we please go home already?" Hobi asked, wiping his own tears. He didn't care to stick around any longer.
Jungkook felt more sadness overtake him at the comment. He wasn't sure he really even wanted to go home with them. What is a home if it is full of people who lie to me and don't actually care about me?
To his dismay, he realized he had nowhere else to go. He followed them out to the car and the ride home was pretty silent. Everyone would periodically turn and look at him and ask him if he was okay, but he ignored everyone. He continued to silently look out the window and block them out.
Hobi was sitting next to him and placed his hand on Jungkook's knee, but the younger gave him a dirty look and pulled it away. Hobi pulled his hand away without saying anything.
When they got home, the members got out of the car and realized Jungkook wasn't moving.
"What are you doing?" Jimin asked him.
"Staying in the car," Jungkook replied.
"Jungkook, it's freezing out here. Come inside." Jimin leaned into the car and offered his hand, but his maknae didn't want it. Jungkook ignored him and kept looking out his window.
"It's too cold outside, and you're wearing-" Jimin looked at the gross hospital outfit Jungkook was still wearing, he hadn't been able to change back into his own clothes before leaving. "Well...that."
"Don't even pretend to care, Jimin," Jungkook replied sternly.
Jimin fell silent for a moment. Jungkook never called him Jimin. He tried to suppress the ache in his heart.
"Jungkookie I-" Jimin started but Yoongi cut him off, "He's not pretending to do anything. We all care you know."
"I would like to be left alone," Jungkook demanded. For the first time ever he wished his hyungs actually weren't around.
"That's fine. We will leave you alone, but not until you're at least inside. It's too cold to sit out here," Jin informed.
Jungkook sat silent for a moment then let out a sigh as he finally got out of the car and followed everyone inside. Once inside, he decided to take a long shower. He tried to scrub the entire day away, almost scrubbing himself raw. He made sure to disinfect the scratches on his stomach. Who knew what kind of germs lingered around that hell of a hospital, if it could even be called that. When he was finished he ran into his room and slammed the door behind him, locking it.
All of the members turned to the bedroom door when they heard it slam. Namjoon rubbed the back of his neck. "I don't know what to do. This is my fault." He felt extremely guilty for letting this happen to their youngest. The boy already couldn't catch a break and Namjoon felt like because of him, it was now a lot worse. He was also upset that Jungkook was blaming all of them, when Namjoon was the one who let Shik handle the appointment.
"It's not your fault Joonie," Taehyung spoke up, "It's manager Shik's, but he didn't know either. So really it's nobody's fault. I don't know why he doesn't believe us. How could he really think we wanted something like that to happen to him? Does he really think that badly of us? I'm sure we aren't the best hyung's ever but I know we can't be that bad, right?" Taehyung turned to the rest of his members. "Right?" He had been having doubts lately about how good of an older brother he actually was.
"I guess we aren't doing the greatest job," Jimin answered.
"We're trying, but it's hard to help when he isn't being totally honest with us about what he's going through. I know he isn't being honest about everything," Namjoon told them. He had read enough of his psychology books to know that at the very least, whatever Jungkook was dealing with, he wasn't being completely up front about it. He also knew he couldn't force him to be either, so there was only so much they could all do for him.
"So now what do we do?" Jin asked. He didn't want Jungkook to continuously feel like they were to blame and had done this to him on purpose. Knowing Jungkook had that impression of them right now was killing him. It was hurting all of them.
"Hope he realizes he's wrong, I guess? And that we do care?" Hobi suggested.
The members didn't have a fix-all answer. All they could do for now was respect that their maknae wanted to be left alone for a little while. The members scattered and did their own things for a few hours. Taehyung went and hung out with Jimin in his room for a bit considering he was locked out of his own.
Jungkook had jumped into bed the second he had entered the room. He covered himself with his weighted blanket and cried into his pillow. He was having a million thoughts at once. Some about how much he hated his hyungs now, actually his members, he didn't consider them hyungs anymore. How much he hated his manager.
He wondered why they would ever team up together to do something like this to him. He wished his weighted blanket was heavy enough to simply crush him to death so he would die and not have to deal with anything anymore. At the same time, other doubts popped into his head. He knew Shik was constantly threatening to harm one of the other members, what if he had finally threatened them into setting the whole thing up? Would they really have listened, though? Would they really put Jungkook in danger to save themselves ? He had no idea anymore. If Shik had threatened them, wouldn't they have realized that he's abusive? Or are they still seriously that blind? Or maybe they don't want to see it because they don't care anyways?
The anxiety and paranoia were running wild in his head. He was coming up with a million scenarios a second as to how this happened and why, how his hyungs could let this happen, but none of them made sense. Except the scenario where they simply just did not care. He wasn't sure how to feel anymore. He knew he had a lot of hatred for them, but what did that mean? Was he supposed to ignore them forever and just live side by side with them? Was he supposed to be mean to them now? He wondered what other bad things they would try to do to him and what other things they would lie to him about .
However there was a small part of him that felt like this was his fault. It was his fault his members had done this, and didn't care about him anymore. He felt like he's been nothing but a burden lately. Constantly setting the team behind schedule because of his problems, one of them always having to drop what they're doing to bring him to the hospital, constantly getting into situations that sent them all into a frenzy of panic and worry. Even though when it came down to it all of his problems were Shik's fault.
He sat with those thoughts for a moment and then realized it didn't make sense. If they don't care why do they worry? If they don't care why would they drop everything to make sure I'm okay?
He felt more confused than ever. Nothing was adding up or making sense to him. Maybe they used to care and then decided they don't want to anymore? But at what point did they change theirs minds, and why?
Although his mind was loud, his body was absolutely exhausted. After a few hours, he found himself drifting off to sleep. He wasn't sure how long he had slept for, but he knew it was a while. It was dark when he was abruptly woken up by loud banging on the bedroom door. "Can I come in now? This is my room to you know!" Taehyung yelled from the other side of the door.
"Go away!"
"It's my room too!" Taehyung yelled again, "I need to change!"
Jungkook groaned. He knew technically, he did need to let Taehyung in. He got up and staggered to the light switch and turned it on, and then let Taehyung in, he could smell food cooking when he opened the door. He didn't realize how hungry he was until that moment, but he knew he wasn't going to want to eat dinner with any of them.
Jungkook made his way back to the bed while Taehyung grabbed clothes. "Are you still mad at us?" he asked his maknae as he placed his clothes on his bed and sat on it. Jungkook turned to lay the other way and didn't reply, because the answer was yes.
"Jungkookie?" Taehyung tried to get his attention with no success.
"Can you at least say something to me? Even if you're mad at us you can at least talk to us." Taehyung felt pain in his heart creep back up. They had never gotten into any kind of fight where it resulted in them not speaking to each other.
Taehyung walked over and stood next to his bed. "The silent treatment? Really?"
Taehyung placed his hand on Jungkook's arm but his maknae shooed him off. "Fuck off, Taehyung."
Taehyung took a step back and took a deep breath, trying to catch the tears threatening to fall from his eyes. "This isn't fair. How can you be this mad at us? I understand it was a bad situation, but you don't know the hell we had to go through to get you back out of there. We were so scared. I was so scared I'd never see you again."
"Get me out? I sat there for hours and nobody came for me. You don't know the hell I went through, Taehyung." Jungkook had a lot of anger in his voice.
"We were trying! They wouldn't let you out! Jin hyung and I fought to get you back for hours! We had to call the police and everything and the police had to get you. You really think we left you in there to suffer on purpose? Maknae we didn't know. You have to believe that we didn't know until it started to take too long and they wouldn't give you back!"
"And why didn't you come for me your damn self?! Why did you need to wait hours for a cop to show up and do it, huh?! I was stuck in a room with a crazy person!" Jungkook screamed back. Their argument was getting louder the more they fought.
"The receptionist said she'd have me taken too. I couldn't come," Taehyung informed.
"Every man for himself I guess then, right? As long as it was me locked in there and not you, right?!"
"That's-no-Jungkookie-that's not it...we couldn't get to you...the doors were guarded with security they wouldn't have let us through even we tried."
"And did you try?"
Taehyung was silent. No.
"Yeah, that's what I thought. So leave me the hell alone."
The tears finally escaped Taehyung's eyes. I should have tried. As if he didn't feel guilty enough already, now the guilt was suffocating him. "I'm sorry," he whispered through his tears. "Please believe we didn't do it on purpose. We didn't know. I'm sorry I didn't try harder."
Jungkook fell silent again and ignored his hyung. Taehyung stood there, also silent. Maybe he is right, this is our fault.
Yoongi came into the room to tell them dinner was ready, he saw Taehyung standing there crying. "What's going on?" he asked the second youngest as he looked back and forth between the two.
Jungkook turned to face them. "Nothing is going on. We're done here. And I'm not hungry."
"You need to eat," Yoongi said with a slightly demanding tone.
"I said I'm not hungry," Jungkook protested.
"And I call bullshit on that. You haven't eaten all day. There is no way you aren't hungry," Yoongi said back.
Jungkook crossed his arms. "Well I'm not."
"Can you at least try?" Yoongi's demanding tone turned to one of concern. Jungkook practically never ate anymore, and Yoongi noticed their youngest had lost weight over these past weeks.
" I said no," Jungkook argued.
"He's still mad at us." Taehyung was wiping his tears.
Yoongi turned back to Jungkook. "I understand if you are still mad at us. That doesn't mean you shouldn't eat, though. Mad at us or not, you still need to take care of yourself. Your body isn't going to heal any faster if you malnourish it. Do you want the bruises and cuts to linger?"
Jungkook felt anger course through him all over again, he frantically sat up in bed, "I wouldn't even have bruises and cuts if it weren't for you guys!" He was blaming all the members, but right now he only had Yoongi and Taehyung to yell at.
Yoongi got defensive. "We did not put those on you."
"Maybe not directly," Jungkook fought back, "But I wouldn't have them if it weren't for you guys!"
Taehyung started crying harder. He hated hearing Jungkook blame them all for now not only his shitty day, but his actual physical injuries too. He backed up and stood behind Yoongi, he didn't know what to say or do anymore. He had just fought with Jungkook and it got him nowhere.
"This wasn't our fault!" Yoongi screamed. "Manager Shik made the damn appointment. It was a damn accident, but if you want to blame anyone, blame him!"
"Why the hell would you guys trust manager Shik to begin with?!"
"Why wouldn't we trust him?!" Yoongi yelled back.
Jungkook jumped out of bed and stood right in front of Yoongi. "Because when the hell will any of you realize you fucking can't?!" he screamed in Yoongi's face.
Jungkook instantly felt his face turn even more red as he began crying just as hard as Taehyung was. He was scared now. He had said too much.
Yoongi and Taehyung both took a step back. "What do you mean by that?" Yoongi asked.
Jungkook stared at him in silence.
"Jungkook, what did you mean by that? Why can't we trust him?"
Jungkook took a step back. "Never mind. Just forget it."
"Jungkook-ah," Taehyung joined in, "why can't we trust him?"
Jungkook began to internally panic. He needed to think of a lie, and quickly.
"Because..." he started.
The other two stood there silently waiting for an explanation. "Because of what he did..." And what he always does.
"Are you referring to this appointment situation?" Yoongi asked.
Jungkook nodded. "Yeah."
"Kookie, that doesn't mean we can't trust him. He made a mistake," Yoongi said reassuringly.
Jungkook was silent again. He was at a loss for words. He got back into bed to lay back down. He wondered why he still didn't want to tell them the truth. He hated them, after all. Now would be a great time to do it, because who cares if Shik beats them too? Jungkook had been the one to feel like he deserved all the beatings he had gotten. Maybe it was finally their turn. Maybe now they're the ones who actually deserved it. I'm just too tired to deal with this right now.
"I'm not saying you have to talk to us, but will you please eat dinner?" Yoongi had turned back to that subject. He was desperate.
"I said I'm not hungry," Jungkook said through his tears.
He was starving. Jin and Yoongi's cooking always smelled delicious. However, he didn't want to even look at his hyungs anymore.
Yoongi threw his arms up in surrender. "Fine. Don't eat. I tried." He froze when he saw Jungkook flinch back again at his movement.
Taehyung noticed it too and stared at Yoongi.
Yoongi put his hand gently on Jungkook's arm. "We already told you we would never hit you. Why do you keep doing that?"
Jungkook shrugged. "You're mad."
"Being mad doesn't mean any of us would hurt you," Taehyung added. He didn't understand it either. This was the second time now he saw his maknae think he was going to get smacked by one of them. It was a recent concern, Jungkook had never done it before aside from the two recent times. Taehyung didn't know where the anxiety stemmed from.
"Have any of us ever hit you because we were mad?" Yoongi asked.
Jungkook shook his head no.
"Has anyone else ever hit you because they were mad?" Yoongi asked.
Again, Jungkook shook his head no.
Jungkook wondered what it would take to get his hyungs to the point of wanting to beat him up too. They were already on Shik's side for everything else, it's only a matter of time before they decide to lay their hits on me too.
Yoongi stared down at his maknae with heartache. "I'm sorry we have hurt you so badly that you don't trust us anymore. Think whatever you want, I guess I can't stop you. But the truth of the matter is that we love you and would never do anything to purposely harm you or put you in danger." With that Yoongi turned and left the room without saying anything more, he was too hurt and needed a break.
Jungkook and Taehyung stared at each other in silence before Jungkook finally spoke up. "Will you go away now?"
"After all that, you're really still mad?" Taehyung asked surprised. How many damn apologies will it take?
"I will always be mad."
Taehyung turned and headed out the door. "You know what? Fine. Sit in here and be all mad and miserable for the rest of your life. See if I care."
Taehyung did care, but he was just as mad at Jungkook.
"I already know you don't care. And you know what Taehyung? I don't care either."
"About what?" Taehyung asked.
"About you." Any of you.
