The Hands That Hurt Us- Part 25

Jimin dove to the floor with Namjoon and Jungkook, trying to shake Jungkook awake. "Jungkook-ah? Jungkook?! Wake up!" His efforts proved unsuccessful while Yoongi called an ambulance.

Shik, who had been standing back and watching things unfold, finally stepped forward. "What the hell is going on?" He kneeled next to Namjoon and Jungkook.

"I don't know!" Namjoon was a sobbing mess. "He-Yoongi said he was sick and then his stomach hurt and he just collapsed and-"

Namjoon was cut off by Shik. "Did Jungkook say anything else?" He needed to make sure that the members remained in the dark about his and Jungkook's last encounter.

"He told me he didn't feel good. I found him in the bathroom crying," Yoongi said as soon as he got off the phone with 911.

Namjoon held Jungkook tightly, joined by both Jimin and Taehyung also hovering over their maknae and holding him. Taehyung was running his fingers through Jungkook's hair while the youngest lay there unmoving.

Namjoon looked at his manager and couldn't help but notice a slight lack of concern. "Did he say anything to you?"

"No," was the managers only response. Not even two minutes later paramedics came and took Jungkook away immediately.

The members were getting ready to follow behind them when Jin saw Shik start walking back towards his office.

"You're not coming with us?" Jin asked Shik.

"I can't. I have things I need to take care of here."

Namjoon pushed Jin along. "Let's just go. Clearly he's busy." He shot his manger the side eye when he said that last word. He thought about how when it came to their last manager, manager Kip, whenever any of them had an injury Kip would drop everything to stay by their side no matter what until he knew they were better. He also realized that the injuries were a lot less frequent back then.

The injuries were a lot less frequent back then.

Namjoon gulped and shook the thought out of his head. He was thinking things he didn't want to think. He was caught off guard by Taehyung grabbing his arm and dragging him faster towards the car.

The car was silent, except for sniffling, until Hobi needed more answers from Yoongi.

"So you just found him crying in the bathroom?" Hobi asked his hyung.

"Yeah. He said he didn't feel good. Apparently it just hit him out of nowhere," Yoongi replied.

The members all looked at each other in confusion, it didn't make sense to them. They all knew Jungkook was completely fine before he disappeared to go to the bathroom. How could he have gotten so sick in the span of not even thirty minutes?

They arrived at the hospital and asked a nurse walking by where Jungkook went. She told them she doesn't know and to report to the receptionist. They all found their way there and the receptionist told them she doesn't know and to wait for a doctor to come out and speak to them. She gestured to a private waiting room and they gathered there, all extremely frustrated at the lack of information. At the very least they just wanted to know if he was okay or if he'd woken up yet.

Four hours of sitting there crying and shaking and waiting.

Jungkook's doctor finally came in and closed the door behind him. They were all about to bombard him with questions until they were all immediately shut up just by the look on his face. He looked exhausted and upset, and they were scared.

"Before anyone asks me anything, I need to know what happened to him?" the doctor asked.

"What do you mean?" Yoongi started. "He said he was suddenly sick and then just passed out."

"What made him sick?" the doctor asked sternly.

"We don't know," Jimin replied. "Is he okay?"

The doctor ignored Jimin's question. "So you're telling me nobody knew that his appendix completely ruptured and was leaking toxins into his entire body? You're telling me he showed no prior symptoms of appendicitis? Because he just got out of surgery."

The members mouths dropped open. They had absolutely no idea.

"He-but he-no he didn't! He was perfectly fine and then went to the bathroom and got sick in there!" Jimin panicked. "Is he okay?!"

"I take it nobody knows what caused the bruising either?" The doctor asked. The members could tell Jungkook's doctor seemed quite angry.

"Bruising? What bruising?" Jin asked. He hadn't seen any bruises on Jungkook in weeks.

"He had bruises on his stomach, and bruising where his appendix is located. If you say he had no prior symptoms, that means it burst abruptly. In medical terms, we consider the cause blunt force trauma."

"What does that mean?" Hobi asked.

"It means it burst because of impact. As in he got hit somehow," Namjoon told his hyung.

The members all looked to each other in shock, nothing was making sense to them.

Yoongi looked at the doctor. "What could have hit him that hard? I don't understand. All he did was go to the bathroom."

"Could he have fallen in the bathroom or something?" Taehyung asked innocently.

"But wouldn't he have told us if he had fallen? He always tells us when he falls, considering it's like, all the time." Jin pointed out. He realized it had actually been quite a while since Jungkook actually used falling as an excuse, because of his lack of injuries lately the maknae hadn't needed to.

The doctor gave the members a disappointed look. "None of you went to the bathroom with him?"

"No he just went and was taking a while so I went to find him and he was crying." Yoongi felt like he had given that same answer a million times at this point.

Namjoon felt anger boiling up in his body as tears spilled out. Jungkook's appendix burst? By trauma? How did that even make sense? Did he really just fall again? Then why hadn't he said anything?

His thoughts were broken by the doctor speaking again. "Did I not tell this group before to pay better attention to him? Whose around when things like this happen?"

"We-" Jimin hesitated behind his guilt, "We-I mean...he's been fine for a while. We didn't think-"

The doctor cut him off. "Yes, I can see that."

The members stood there in even more shock. They didn't know Jungkook's doctor could be so stern.

"What do you think happened to him?" Jin asked.

"I can't make assumptions. All I can say is this group needs to do better." The doctor was angry. He didn't feel like giving them the whole 'domestic abuse' scenario all over again like he had done last time they were there. He would definitely be talking to Jungkook individually.

"Is he okay?!" Jimin screamed. He was angry that the doctor still hadn't answered his question.

"The surgery was successful and he's being treated now for the toxins in his blood, but he hasn't woken up yet."

"Can we go be with him now? Please? It's been hours!" Taehyung cried.

"Not until he wakes up and gives permission for visitors." The doctor said he would report back to them in a bit and had other patients to get to.

The members took a seat back down and were a little confused. The doctor never said Jungkook needed to give permission for visitors any other time he had been at the hospital.

"It's not that weird. If he suspects someone did it to him deliberately, and we were the last people with him, it kind of makes sense as to why he isn't just going to let us in," Yoongi informed.

"Do you think someone did it? I mean who would have?" Hobi asked with a worried expression. He hoped to God nobody had hit Jungkook so badly that they had bruised and broken him.

Namjoon couldn't contain his anger anymore, he stood up so furiously that he tipped over the chair he was sitting in. "Clearly we don't know shit and I'm tired of it!" The members all flinched at the sudden outburst. "I know none of us ever know what the hell actually happens to him and that's changing today!"

Namjoon started walking towards the exit.

"Where are you going?" Yoongi asked.

"With any luck, to fix whatever the hell is going on!" Namjoon shouted. "I'll be back. Text me when we can go in."

The members nodded that they'd let him know. Namjoon stormed outside of the hospital and called for a taxi, giving them the address.

He was right back at work. He stormed into the building and banged on the door to managers Shik's office.

"Come in!" Shik yelled. Namjoon walked in and slammed the door behind him.

"That was quick," Shik replied nonchalantly.

Namjoon tried to swallow his frustration. "He needed surgery."

"I'm sorry to hear that."

Namjoon wanted to get right to the point. "How did Jungkook get sick? His doctor said he was probably hit! His entire appendix burst, Shik!"

"Damn. Poor kid. But I told you, he didn't tell me anything. I don't know what happened to him."

Namjoon stared at his boss and eyed him up and down. "And that's the problem."

"What is?"

"None of us ever know what happened. He tells us things, but whose to say that's the truth?"

Shik shifted in his seat, for the first time he actually felt a ping of nervousness. It wasn't like Namjoon to ask questions. Especially directed at him specifically. Shik realized Namjoon was getting too suspicious. He didn't know if he was getting suspicious of him, but he could tell it was of someone.

"What are you getting at?" Shik asked nervously.

"Cameras."

"What do you mean cameras?"

"Why the hell doesn't this building have our CCTV cameras installed yet?! It's been months!" Namjoon yelled.

It was a fairly new building and when it was originally built the CCTV cameras that manager Kip had ordered to be installed were placed on back order. They hadn't arrived by the time Kip had departed, and as soon as Shik took over he called the company and immediately cancelled the installation order. It wasn't the first time he'd been asked about the cameras and he would always lie and say that they were still on back order.

"They're still on back order."

"That's bullshit. It's been months. Why haven't the cameras come in yet? I want cameras in every damn room of this building." Namjoon was trying to calm his nerves but Shik's lack of concern was really pissing him off.

"I can't control what the camera company does. If they're on back order I have no control over their arrival date."

"Then cancel the order and order from a different company. I want cameras."

"We don't have the money to order from another company."

Namjoon let out a laugh of disbelief. "Like I'm really going to believe that this company doesn't have enough money for a new order of CCTV cameras."

Shik wasn't quite sure how to reply. Obviously the company had the money. The two stared at each other silently until Namjoon spoke up again. "I'll pay for them myself if I have to."

"Why can't you just wait for the ones we have already ordered to come in?"

"Because they should have been in by now and I want cameras NOW! Jungkook keeps getting injuries and I've observed enough to know at this point it's only happening to him at work. He gets nervous at work, Shik. You're our manager how have you not realized that by now? It's like you don't even care about him. You didn't seem all that concerned when he was just laying on the floor unconscious."

"I was concerned but panicking wasn't going to help him now was it?"

"You didn't do anything to even try to help him."

"What the hell was I supposed to do Namjoon?"

"Fuckin care, maybe?"

"I do care!" Shik screamed as he slammed his fist on his desk. The last thing he needed was Namjoon getting this close to the truth. He was angry and trying to hide the fact he was panicking.

"Yet you won't get cameras to protect him?"

"You're his hyung. You protect him."

Shik really did not want cameras.

Instant tears fell from Namjoon's eyes as he clenched his fists. Shik really struck a nerve. Namjoon always did his absolute best to protect Jungkook, and all of his members, from anything. He was already feeling like a failure of a leader and hyung when it came to Jungkook, the last thing he needed to hear was Shik confirming that he had once again failed to protect the youngest.

"I-I try but I can't..." Namjoon tried to steady his breathing. "I can't do everything all of the time. Please Shik. If you care about him wouldn't you want to help keep him safe? If something else is going on with him then the cameras will finally show us what it is. Maybe he really is just falling all the time, but there would be peace of mind knowing the truth."

Shik stood up and walked up to Namjoon, he could tell his manager was angry. He didn't understand why though. He didn't go in thinking simply asking for new CCTV cameras would be such an ordeal.

"We will get the cameras, when we get the cameras, Namjoon. Is that understood?" Shik got right in Namjoon's face and Namjoon took a step back. For once he had actually felt a bit intimidated by his boss. He looked scary when he was angry.

Namjoon stared at him with tears in his eyes wondering why his manager was making this so hard. He took a deep breath before asking, "Are you hiding something?"

Shik took a startled step back, thrown off by the question. "Excuse me?"

"Are you hiding something?" Namjoon asked again.

"Why would you think that?"

"You're the only person I've ever met to put up a fight about the CCTV cameras. Anyone else would just reorder them. It's like you don't want cameras."

Shik sighed, he was sick of this conversation. "Get out, Namjoon. I have a lot to do. We will finish this discussion another time."

"But-"

"OUT!" Shik yelled. Namjoon shut his mouth and left without another word. He ran to the bathroom and stared at himself in the mirror, not realizing just how pathetic he looked. His face was beat red with both dry and wet tear streaks staining his cheeks. He couldn't believe his manager had made him feel this bad.

The sight of his own tormented face reminded him of Jungkook and all the times his maknae had looked just as upset. His heart skipped a beat when he thought about whether or not manager Shik might have had something to do with it. He turned around and ran into a stall, getting sick, when the next thought hit him.

Jungkook was constantly getting injured at work.

Shik clearly didn't care for cameras.

Jungkook gets hurt, and Shik doesn't want anyone to know how.
