Chapter2: Meet The juniorSTARz
chapter2: meet the juniorSTARz
november 10, 2008
It’s now November. After the meeting with 7STARz, Seth and the Disney Channel executives went straight to work on juniorSTARz. First, they met with producers and songwriters that worked on the music for 7STARz, Jonas Brothers, and Miley Cyrus. They needed a sound, similar to 7STARz’ yet different. 7STARz was a mixture of cheesy dance, urban, and rock: juniorSTARz will be having bubblegum electro-pop/rock.
Next was setting up the auditions. When they held the auditions for 7STARz, the auditions were only in LA, and it was through numerous agents. For juniorSTARz, they decided to make things more interesting.
They had 7STARz film an ad for the Disney Channel and Radio Disney announcing nationwide auditions. The stops were LA, New York City, Nashville, Miami, Dallas, Chicago, Washington, DC, Seattle, Las Vegas, Atlanta, Boston, Philadelphia, and Detroit.
The age group for 7STARz auditions were 15-19; for juniorSTARz, it’s 13-17. Those auditioning had to sing 7STARz songs, and perform a monologue from an episode of popSTARz. Not only were the auditions taking place in some of the largest cities in America, the Disney Channel set up official YouTube and MySpace auditions for those who can’t make the auditions. The turnout became hugely successful, so much so, there had to be three teams of vocal coaches weeding through the videos. In the end, 200 people made the callbacks in New York City.
The callbacks where then held in early November. This time, 7STARz, along with one of the executives, were to judge the potential band members. The contestants had to sing, dance, AND act.
Soon, it was narrowed down to fourteen people; seven guys, and seven girls. They all had to sing and dance to 7STARz’ debut single, Rock Out Loud. After they were done, 7STARz and the executive deliberated who would be in juniorSTARz.
After about two full days of callbacks, 7STARz and the executive finally made their decision. They chose seven people. But afterwards, they felt like the newly-formed band was missing someone. So they called up two more people to join the band. So now the juniorSTARz are a 9-piece.
This is the lineup in order of who joined first to last:
Greg Chavez (age 14; from Miami, Florida)
Emily Donovan (14; Baltimore, Maryland)
Madison Steele (16; Brooklyn, NYC, New York)
Alec Johnson (15; Nashville, Tennessee)
Hayley Ryder (14; Baltimore, Maryland)
Sarah Fitzgerald (14; Upper West Side, NYC, New York)
Vaughn Robb (17; Houston, Texas)
Ryan Anderson (16; Malibu, California)
Rylie Hanson (13; Shepherd, Montana)
When the new band members arrived at LAX in LA, they were driven in individual cars. First to stop was Greg. He arrived at a closed-off, elite coffee-shop. He had long, jet-black emo-ish hair, but wasn’t dressed like an emo. In fact, he was wearing a leather-hooded jacket, and fitted jeans. He had brown eyes. He looked around, not quite familiar with the area.
Next was Ryan. When he got out of the car, he looked at himself in the reflection on the car window. He had messy, blonde hair. He had blue eyes. He wore a designer somewhat button black shirt, and fitted jeans. He looked up, and saw a billboard advertising Hollister. On the picture was Ryan, shirtless with a well-built six-pack. Ryan gave himself a smug grin, proud of his achievement.
Now it was Madison. She was complaining to the driver about being driven, saying how she’s not a “privileged girl.” When she got out of the car, she scoffed at the elite area. She had long, straight, black hair with bangs. She had green eyes. She was wearing neutral-colored clothes, yet her outfit was somewhat provocative. She wore a corset with a loose vest over it. She wore a flowy miniskirt, and Converse sneakers. She turned around, and saw the Hollister billboard. She gave a smirk, impressed with Ryan’s abs.
Soon came Emily…actually it’s both Emily and Hayley. They were screaming in excitement. They have been like this since they left Baltimore. In fact, they’re best friends! Once they got out of the car, they screamed even more. Emily had long, blonde hair; while Hayley had long, curly hair. They both wore designer tops and jeans. They both have brown eyes.
Another member that arrived was Vaughn. He was too busy texting on his latest iPhone to take in Hollywood. Once he got out of the car, he continued texting. He had straight, blonde hair. He had blue eyes. He wore nothing but Abercrombie clothes.
Next was Rylie. She was so nervous about LA. She never visited a large city before. Not the even the largest city in Montana! Small-town life was all she knew. She was in awe of how ritzy Hollywood looked. She had shoulder-length blonde hair. She wore a plain tee and torn jeans. She had blue eyes.
Now it was Alec’s turn to arrive. He was nervous about being in LA. It was a different culture compared to Nashville. It was posh compared to country Nashville. He looked like singer Ne-Yo in country clothes. He had brown eyes.
Last, but not least, was Sarah. She had a few paparazzi following her. When she got out of the car, she gave a smile and an air kiss. Her hair was dyed red. She wore a fitted mini-dress. She had brown eyes.
Once everyone was inside the coffee-shop, an executive from the Disney Channel spoke, “Hello everyone. Congratulations on joining juniorSTARz. We have big things for you, but for today, you are all going to get to know each other. One more thing, you may have noticed that there are now 9 people in the band. We just added Ryan Anderson and Rylie Hanson. So, get to know each other. Coffee is on me.”
With that, the members grabbed their tables. The girls had one table, while the boys got their own. On the girls’ table, Sarah was receiving stares from Hayley and Emily. Madison and Rylie looked at them weirdly.
Sarah asked nervously, “Okay, why are you two staring at me?”
Emily said, “You’re Sarah Fitzgerald.”
“Yes, that’s me. Why?”
Hayley said, “We love you on Chasing Haddie. That was our favorite show on Nickelodeon, along with Zoey 101, and Drake and Josh.”
Emily said, “But not that Jonas Brothers-ripoff. Those guys could never replace the Nick and Joe Jonas.”
Sarah gave a proud smile as she said, “I’m glad you liked my show. I’m sad that it’s over, and that it’s in its’ last season, but I need to move on with my life.”
Rylie looked confused, while Madison was visibly annoyed. Hayley and Emily noticed, so Emily asked Rylie, “What’s wrong?”
Rylie spoke meekly as she looked at the table, “I don’t know who Sarah is.”
With that, Emily and Hayley became shocked. Madison gave an amused smile, while Sarah just smiled. Sarah said, “It’s okay.”
Hayley said in an irritated tone, “OMFG, Sarah, it’s, like, soooo not okay! How can you NOT know who Sarah Fitzgerald is?!”
Rylie replied, “I don’t have cable.”
Emily asked, “So? There’s the internet. You do have internet, right?”
She said, “It’s blocked on the computer.”
Hayley and Emily, once again, were shocked. Madison gave a small laugh. The two girls shot a glare at her. Emily asked rudely, “What’s so funny?”
Madison said, “You two are making Sarah seem like a huge deal. Here’s the thing, she’s not. She was on stupid kids’ show, and now she’s in a Disney band.”
Once again, the two girls were in shock. Madison said in a biting tone, “If you two bitches keep your mouths open, you’re gonna get some bug flying in.”
The two girls glared at Madison. Emily told her, “You’re one to talk. You look like a slut.”
Madison said, “I’m sexy, so what? Why cover up? It’s my body, I can do whatever I want with it.”
With that, Sarah became impressed, while Rylie looked very uncomfortable. Emily and Hayley got up from their chairs. Hayley said rudely, “We are, like, sooo not sitting with you, slut. Go be friends with the girl who obviously lives under a rock.”
Madison said, “That’s Maddie to you. As for this very quiet girl…what’s your name?”
Rylie said her name very quietly. Maddie continued, “As for Rylie, leave her alone. It’s not her fault she lives in an Amish-like lifestyle.”
With that, the two girls walked away. Sarah had been impressed the entire time. She said to Maddie, “That was amazing, Maddie!”
Maddie said smugly, “Yeah, I’ve been to school with those type of girls. Listen, I don’t really care for your credentials. I think your show was fucking stupid, and you going for Disney has to be either really sad, or really genius.”
Sarah gave a nervous laugh.
At the same time, the guys were getting to know each other. Ryan asked smugly, “You see that Hollister billboard outside?”
The guys looked out at the window, and saw the billboard. Ryan said, “Hot, right?”
Greg said, “Whatever. I don’t really shop there.’
“I kind of do, but I do more than modeling. I’ve been in several music videos and concerts.”
The guys looked at him weirdly. Ryan said, “I’m a professionally-trained dancer.”
The guys nodded their heads. Greg said, “I’m just in high school right now.”
Alec said, “Same here. My life is boring for now, but it’ll get more exciting once we get to work.”
Vaughn said smugly, “Please, my life is more exciting than any of yours.”
Greg asked, “What’s that supposed to mean?”
“I mean, I’m doing more shit than what this blonde Nick Jonas is doing.”
That made Ryan irritated, so he asked, “Really? What did you do before joining juniorSTARz?”
Vaughn asked as if he was offended, “What? You don’t recognize me?”
The guys shook their heads. Vaughn said, “I don’t believe any of you. I was in several movies, TV shows, and magazine spreads.”
Alec and Greg stared at Vaughn, while Ryan burst out laughing. Vaughn asked Ryan, “What’s so funny, Nick Jonas?”
Ryan replied, “The name’s Ryan Anderson, and I’ve been in the industry for some time now. I should know who’s in or not, and I don’t know anything about you.”
Greg chimed in, “I don’t anything about you either, Vaughn.”
Ryan asked Greg, “Are you in the industry, too? Because I don’t know you either.”
“No, I’m not in the industry, but my parents are. My mom is a costume designer for Telemundo telenovelas, and my dad is one of the biggest talent scouts in the east coast.”
“What’s your dad’s name? Maybe I’ve heard of him.”
“Daniel Chavez. His agency is called, ‘Chavez Talent Agency.’”
Vaughn said, “I know Daniel. He’s my agent.”
Greg asked suspiciously, “Really? What’s your name?”
“Vaughn Robb. Why?”
Greg thought for a moment, and said, “My dad didn’t work with you. I should know. He tells me about his talents, and he makes no mention of a Vaughn Robb. But I’ll call him to make sure.”
Vaughn rolled his eyes.
After about an hour of getting to know each other, the executive told the members to sit together. Once they did, Emily asked, “What do you think of our name ‘juniorSTARz’?”
Greg said, “It sounds kiddy and cheesy. I mean, I get we’re a Disney act, but we’re not little kids. We’re all in high school.”
Sarah said, “I’d say we change it to ‘9STARz’. It’s better that way.”
The members agreed to the name change. Then they told the executive about this. He wasn’t sure about the idea, but he told them he’ll talk to Seth about this. Now everything is set for the Disney Channel’s newest pop act, 9STARz.
