Chapter 34
July, 1754
Albany, New York
Me and Shay arrive in Albany. We meet Liam and Hope in the town. We walk behind them, and they haven't noticed us yet. Shay walks behind Hope and he taps her shoulder. She turns around startled and sighs.
"Both of you are here," Hope says, "congress is still in session, George Washington and his militia have fired French troops under Chuivil, the French are calling it an act of War," I scoff.
"Well that's just fantastic," I sarcastically say.
"George Washington, you mean Lawrence's younger brother?" Shay asks.
"Yeah, that's the same," Liam says, "and speaking of Lawrence Washington, once eliminated him James Wardrop has moved up in ranks. All of the Templar resources are at his disposal now,"
"What about the Manuscript?" Shay asks.
"My sources in New York confirm that Wardrop has it," Hope tells us, "I also learned that he is here at the congress under heavy guard," Shay leans his back on a post.
"Shay, Kathryn find Wardrop and get that Manuscript," Liam instructs us and he starts to walk away.
"This place is thick with Templar troops," Hope warns us, "Liam and I will make sure he doesn't escape," Hope walks with Liam. I look at Shay.
"I guess we can start by going to the Albany Congress," I say, Shay nods. We walk to the location of the meeting. Behind the speaker of the meeting is a large sign that has a picture of a snake cut into several pieces, and the caption say 'Join or Die', "wow uhhh that's........ encouraging," I say, not really sure what to make of it. Shay chuckles a little. But then he sees someone. He slightly points to a man with dark hair that was in a pony tail.
"That must be the Templar, William Johnson," Shay says.
"Perhaps he has the Manuscript, or knows where it is," I say. Then the man at the podium stats his speech.
"As I stated previously, I believe we need a national union. Granted by an act of Parliament. But brining grater independence to our Colonies. The French are a immediate threat and we are ill prepared to face them. To put it bluntly, the Colonies must join or die," the man say.
"Well now we know what that sign is about," I whisper to Shay. He nods. Then I hear clapping. The Templar William Johnson claps his hands and smiles.
"Arousing speech Master Franklin," Johnson tells the man that was on the podium, "but do you truly believe Great Britain will grant the Colonies autonomy?"
"They have little choice Master Johnson, you know the remoteness of the frontier better than most," Franklin says.
"Yes, but let us leave politics for another day," Johnson suggests, "I wanted to thank you for your research,"
"Of course, in the brief time that I could examine that Box I could tell it was something unique," Franklin says, "from ancient Egypt you said? Well as I mentioned in my letter I am quite ready to electrify it,"
"Excellent, we will have the Box delivered shortly, as for the Manuscript....," Johnson says then he looks over and he sees a red coat come, "captain," The captain walks over to Johnson.
"I apologize Sir, but Master Wardrop refused to hand it over, he said the risks were too great," the captain says.
"The risks?!" Johnson says angrily then he groans in frustration, then he turns back to Franklin, "I apologize you will have the Manuscript and the Box in the briefest of delays," Johnson smiles, Franklin nods and he walks away. Then Johnson looks back at the captain angrily, "you useless excuse for a uniform run to Fort Frederick and tell Master Wardrop that he better cough up that Manuscript or else I will have him scalped!" The captain nods and he runs off.
"We can't let that lobster captain reach Wardrop," Shay says and we chase after him. Then not too long later I assassinate the captain, "and now for Wardrop and the Manuscript,"
Me and Shay scale the wall of the fort. Once we were on the roof of the fort, we kill any of the guards that were in our way. Then see locate Wardrop at the base of the fort.
"Shall we," I say, Shay grins and we air assassinate him together. Our hidden blades come in contact with Wardrop's flesh. Wardrop clenched the Manuscript close to his chest.
"I'll take that!" Shay says and he snatches the Manuscript out of Wardrop's grip. Shay pushes Wardrop to the ground, "you Templar dog," Wardrop reaches out for the Manuscript.
"No, no!" Wardrop exclaims, "you have no idea what you are doing, you fools!" I circle around him and I crouch down to his level.
"Were keeping the people free from your control," I say while glaring at him then I get up.
"How free will you be when the French are undermining these scrabbling Colonies?" Wardrop asks us.
"These Colonies would be far better off without the Templars pulling the strings!" Shay angrily says. Wardrop chuckles despite his state.
"We bring order from chaos!" Wardrop defends the Templar Order. I scoff.
"Order is only an illusion, there can never be true order," I say, "everything is permitted," Wardrop looks at me.
"If everything is permitted no one is safe," Those were Wardrop's final words then he slumped over and he died. Shay crouches down to the now dead Wardrop.
"Even the Devil can hold scripture, to suit his own purposes" Shay says darkly. Then we leave the fort, and we go back to The Morrigan.
