"Sir, please!" I cry out. "Don't do this again, please Sir!" I beg him, falling to my knees and grasping his robes in a desperate attempt to change his mind. He sighs heavily and snaps his fingers for the two doctors to grab me and strap me down.

"No!" I scream but their grip is strong, and I can't escape from their hard grasp. The woman is writing something down inside her notebook. Is she writing down how crazy I am? The two doctors force me down onto the bed and bind my hands, feet and strap a belt against my neck. I hate that one the most, I always feel like I can't breathe with it around my neck. The head doctor stands above me and gives me a smile while stroking my hair.

"Be a good boy, Number One. And do just like you promised," he says and walks out of the room – the door sliding shut behind him. I try to move but know it's futile since this has happened so many times before. One of the doctors begins preparing the syringe and fills it with a transparent liquid. He taps it a few times before moving closer to me. The other doctor ties a thick rope against my upper arm and I'm more than confused. He must have sensed this because suddenly he's explaining to me.

"To give the drug a boost. By injecting the drug and then releasing the blood flow, it will travel faster through your system and affect your brain quicker. Fun isn't it?" he tells me with a grin. I send him the hardest glare I can muster with tears in my eyes.

"Please," I whisper but it's futile. I can feel the needle against my skin before it pierces me, and I let out a small cry. I hate needles. After all the contents of the syringe are pushed inside me, the doctor immediately removes the rope and I can feel the blood rushing quickly through my arm. The doctors step back and stand next to the woman who is writing everything down quickly.

I begin feeling dizzy and the walls around me begin to melt into disfigured shapes and the colors start blending together. I start giggling without any control. I look around and marvel at all the colors painting the walls and laugh again. I feel so lightheaded and...free. Why was I so afraid of this drug?

I suddenly hear a low growl to my left and with a slight difficulty, I manage to turn my head from where the noise came. A piercing scream leaves me when I see a tall, black being standing above me. "No!" I scream loudly. "Get away!" but it keeps coming closer to me. I see it coming at me until it's right beside me and it starts covering my whole body – like a shadow but much more sinister. I thrash back and forth forcefully but I'm stuck and can't escape! When I look down I see black vines holding me down and the one around my neck is making it so much harder to breathe.

"Help me!" I scream, remembering that there are doctors in here with me, but I can't spot them anymore. I'm not in the experimentation room anymore. This is more like a dark cave or a rotten jungle, surrounding me and clogging my senses. I can't think! I must escape, but I can't!

I wonder what they're doing to Number One...

Number Three?

I'm willing to kill each one of these bastards! They will all burn in my hands!

Number Two!

I'm so alone, please let me out...

Number Five...

Father...what have they done to you?

Number Four.

I let out a loud scream when the thoughts become too much inside my head and the vine around my neck has blocked off my oxygen intake. I start gasping for breath but it's useless – my hands are held down by the other vines. My head is exploding!

Everything turns bright and I can't see anything anymore.

Have I died?

"Uh," I moan weakly. My eyes feel so heavy like they're made of stone or something. I feel light slaps being landed on my cheeks.

"Wake up, Number One!" I hear a far-away voice speak, but I can't concentrate enough to recognize the voice. It's like I'm floating and my mind is far, far away. A harsh slap brings me back slightly and I open my eyes, but the light is blinding me.

"Number Three?" I mumble. I hear someone sighing in irritation before everything turns black once again.

I have no idea how much time passes before I'm able to open my eyes wholly without feeling like my head is going to explode. I try to sit up but notice that I'm still strapped to the experimentation table. I look around wildly and curse myself a second later because it feels like my head is going to explode.

"Hello?"

"Finally, awake, I see..." I gasp and try to look back, but I can't see anything from where I'm stuck.

"Sir?" I say confused. He steps into sight and I can see his face but can't really decipher what his facial expression means.

"You did well, Number One," he says, but why does he seem disappointed then? Then I see it. The room – it's completely destroyed. And the doctors?

I feel the intense need to throw up what little food I had this morning when I spot them. Their faces are completely covered in dried blood that has spilled from their eyes, ears, nose, and mouth. Did I do that? I feel the strong need to cry. The head doctor was right – I am a murderer. I killed the doctors just like I did to all those people on the bus.

"Don't cry, Number One," he tells me sternly. He hates it when we show emotion. It makes us weak and vulnerable, he says. Then why do I feel better most of the time after I cry?

"What you did was great, but we must find a way to control your powers better. You have an amazing gift, just dying to come forth but you are stopping yourself!"

"Yes, Sir," I say softly. "May I be released?" he gives a low hum before unstrapping me from the table. I feel like I can finally breathe when the neck strap is removed. I sit up slowly and rub my wrists where my skin is red from being tied up for so long. I slide down the table and notice that there are only two bloody bodies on the floor. Where did the woman go?

I feel a hand on my back and I'm steered out of the room with his help since I haven't regained all my strength yet. We walk back the way we came, and I feel a sense of relief when we ride up the elevator to where my room's located. The head doctor escorts me there and unlocks the door with one of his cards. I gasp in shock when I spot the woman sitting on my bed.

She stands up slowly and gives me a soft smile. She walks over to me and extends her hand to me. I stare at it for a while when I feel a pinch against my back. I take her hand in mine and feel the strength of her handshake.

"Hello, Number One. My name is Katarina and I was sent here by Dr. Valkov to help you further explore your amazing gift," she says. She's tall and slim but she's wearing those shoes that make you seem taller than you are. Her blonde hair is pulled back into a tight bun and her face is painted lightly, not much like the women I used to see on the television when I was younger.

When I was free...

I give her a nod, but I don't understand anything.

"Number One, I brought Dr. Blinova to help you open up and thus, making it easier for you to use your powers." The head doctor explains to me. Maybe I should call him Dr. Valkov now that I know his name? I give him a slight nod. He gives my shoulder a light clap and sends Dr. Blinova a look that I can't really decipher. She returns it with a firm nod and sits down on a chair next to the bed. She pats the mattress.

"Make me proud, Number One." Dr. Valkov says before leaving the room and shutting the door behind himself. I walk over slowly and sit down on the bed, my eyes never leaving Dr. Blinova's face. She gives me another smile and opens a folder she has with her. She crosses her legs and looks at me.

"So, Number One, I am here solely to help you evolve. Dr. Valkov tells me that you are a very talented boy with many special abilities. I didn't believe him at first but after I saw what you did yesterday – I was blown away." she says with a large smile.

"What happened?" I ask her, my hands clasped tightly together. She looks at me strangely.

"You don't remember?" she says with a frown. I shake my head. She immediately writes it down on a piece of paper and I'm starting to regret saying anything. "You were exceptional. I mean, it was bad for the doctors who got in your way, but I managed to escape before you unleashed your power. Maybe I can ask Dr. Valkov if I can show you the footage. Would that help you and give you the inspiration to evolve your powers?"

I don't understand half the words she says but I nod my head nonetheless. If there's a tiny chance for me to see how I act when I black out, maybe it could help me control my curse better and no more people would have to get hurt on my behalf.

"Great!" she says, writing it down quickly on the paper. She looks up again and meets my tired eyes. "Dr. Valkov thinks that it will be easier for you to evolve and control your powers if you open up more and share your feelings. Is there something special you would like to share with me?"

I shake my head.

"Okay, that's completely normal. It takes time to open up and speak about your deepest feelings. I completely understand, Alek- I mean Number One!" I raise my head and focus my gaze on her, but she's writing down something quickly on the sheet of paper.

"What did you just say?" I ask her. She shakes her head.

"Nothing! I just said another patient's name. I have so many patients and I often confuse one for the other. I'm sorry." she gives me a nervous laugh while shaking her head. I eye her suspiciously but say nothing. "You know what, Number One? I see that you are tired and need to rest – especially after the treatment you underwent. I will leave you for today, but I will see you tomorrow after free time. Okay?" she speaks hastily, gathering her stuff and standing up quickly.

"Yes," I say, focusing my gaze on my cold feet.

"I will see you tomorrow, Number One. Good night!" she gives me a weak wave before exiting the room. I stare after her and focus on her mind.

That was scary. I thought he was going to kill me! He must never know the truth-

The truth. What truth? What is she talking about? I lie down on my bed and close my eyes, trying to relieve the throbbing in my head.

Luckily, I fall asleep quickly and don't even hear the light sounds coming from the wall next to mine.
