No Regrets
Kix showed Cal to the Medic center and he set Nikki down. Kix sighed,
"Can a droid scan her?"
Cal sighed,
"Only for infections,"
Kix nodded and turned on the Medic droid and after the scan, no infections were found,
"Alright, I will leave you here, I can get your friend in here,"
Cal shook his head,
"She likes talking to new people that aren't trying to kill us, I will get her when we can leave,"
Kix sighed,
"Kid, it's going to take a while before Sora is able to leave,"
Cal glanced at him,
"You don't know her like I do,"
Kix slowly nodded,
"Right, are you going to allow visitors?"
Cal shook his head,
"No, I will not take any risks,"
Kix sighed,
"Alright, there will be someone at the doors if you need an-"
"I won't,"
Kix sighed as left and was greeted by his Bail Organa,
"Senator Organa,"
Bail nodded his head,
"Is she alright?"
Kix sighed and nodded,
"Yes sir, but the guy with her, the Jedi, he does not want any visitors,"
Bail nodded,
"What is his name?"
"Cal,"
Bail nodded,
"Alright, thank you, Kix, for helping Sora on the field,"
"Sir, you should be thanking Cal and his friend, Merrin. Those two found her first,"
Bail nodded his head,
"It appears so, come, we need to have a meeting with our new friends,"
Kix nodded,
"Do you want me to get Cal?"
Bail shook his head,
"Something tells me that he will not come if we ask,"
Kix nodded,
"He seems very adamant on not accepting help from us, sir, specifically us Clones,"
Bail sighed,
"He must have been a Padawan during the purge,"
Kix nodded,
"He told us he was,"
Bail nodded,
"Come,"
They walked into an open space where the ghost crew, Ahsoka, and the clones were waiting with Merrin by the wall, watching. Bail smiled kindly at Merrin,
"Merrin, is it?"
Merrin nodded,
"Yes,"
"Thank you for saving a dear friend of mine,"
Merrin nodded,
"We were helping our friend. We did not do it for you,"
Bail nodded,
"I understand. How did you meet Sora?"
"We met years ago. Cal met her first, and they helped me get off Dathomir and explore while we fought against the Empire,"
"Why not join the Rebellion?"
Merrin crossed her arms,
"We like doing it our way. From what I am seeing take place, you are putting trust in those that do not deserve it,"
Ahsoka narrowed her eyes and stepped closer to Merrin,
"These are old friends of mine. They are all loyal and have not killed their Jedi General,"
Merrin shrugged,
"Kill or not, did Sora trust them?"
Rex shook his head,
"She did not give us a chance,"
Merrin nodded,
"That is my point. Sora has always given second chances, she gave me a second chance. She was trying to give the Sith Lord a second chance, yet none of you clones. Have you tried asking why?"
Ezra frowned,
"The Sith Lord?"
Merrin nodded,
"Yes, that is what they call Darth Vader, do they not?"
Sabine frowned,
"How do you know that she was trying to give him another chance?"
Merrin glanced at her,
"Because it almost worked. She is still alive. I have witnessed what Darth Vader has done to those who cross him. She was left to die, but she was not killed,"
"MERRIN!!!!!!"
Merrin immediately turned to the scream,
"Cal,"
She took off sprinting, and the others quickly followed the Nightsister. Merrin opened the door and saw Cal holding Nikki's hand tightly as the machines beeped,
"Merrin! I need to get into her head!"
Merrin's eyes widened,
"Cal, she is d-"
"No! Help me get through to her! She's giving up!"
Merrin sighed,
"If she dies with you in her mind-"
Cal nodded,
"I know,"
Merrin sighed,
"Alright,"
Cal closed his eyes and felt the green tendril encircle the two of them.
Cal Kestis opened his eyes to the sharp sound of blaster fire. Instinctively, he ducked behind a jagged rock, taking in the chaotic scene around him. The battlefield was a storm of energy bolts, explosions, and shouts.
"Come on, Vods! We can take them!"
Cal turned to see Nikki Mills, glowing with determination, leading a charge beside Commander Cody. With a resigned sigh, he ignited his lightsabers and leaped to her side.
Nikki's eyes widened briefly as she glanced at him.
"Who are you? How did you get here?"
Cal offered a reassuring smile.
"I'm a friend."
Nikki hesitated before nodding.
"Alright then, friend. My master is taking the right side. We need to handle these clankers first, then rendezvous. Isn't that right, Cody?"
Cody chuckled,
"That's right, Commander."
"Oh, shove it with the formalities."
Cody laughed again,
"Let's get rid of these clankers fast. Victory."
Nikki smirked, twirling her purple lightsaber,
"Now that's more like it. What's your name?"
"Cal. Cal Kestis."
"Well, Cal Kestis, my name is Nikki Mills. A pleasure to meet you."
"The pleasure is all mine."
They fought tirelessly for what felt like hours, finally overcoming the Separatist forces. Exhausted, they gathered around a small campfire. Nikki nudged Cody with a grin.
"Hey, Master Kenobi is late again."
Cody chuckled,
"He's barely on time for the fights."
Cal smiled sadly at their camaraderie before clearing his throat,
"Hey, Nikki, can I talk to you for a second?"
Nikki nodded, patting Cody's shoulder,
"We'll be right back, Cody."
Cody pointed at Cal,
"She better come back in one piece, Kestis."
Nikki rolled her eyes,
"Ignore him, Cal. He's just being an overprotective big brother."
Cal nodded, leading Nikki to a secluded spot. They sat down on a rock, away from the others. Cal took a deep breath.
"Nikki?"
"Yeah?"
Cal put his hands on her shoulders, looking into her eyes,
"I need you to wake up."
Nikki frowned.
"Uh...are you feeling okay? I am awake. Hey, where's your master? I've never seen you before, but you look familiar."
Cal sighed.
"You are dreaming, Nikki. The Clone Wars ended. The Clones were chipped and betrayed the Jedi. The Jedi were almost wiped out. The Republic is no more."
Nikki stood up abruptly, gasping,
"Y-You're lying! My brothers would never do that!"
"Nikki, look around you!"
The scene shifted to another battlefield—the one where Nikki and Obi-Wan had defeated General Grievous. Nikki watched in horror as Cody's troops shot at her and Obi-Wan, forcing them to fall. She shook her head, tears welling up,
"It did happen...I wasn't dreaming."
Cal placed a comforting hand on her shoulder.
"I wish it was."
The scene changed again to a snow-covered planet, and Cal's eyes widened at the grave site in front of them.
"Ahsoka... Anakin Skywalker's padawan. She was my best friend. I thought she died with her company. I went with her to Mandalore to capture Darth Maul, but I was summoned back to fight Grievous. When the purge happened, I ran back to Mandalore and spoke to Bo-Katan. My best friend, Luiz, and my younger siblings, Max and Alison, were with Ahsoka and Captain Rex. I found out they were sent back to Earth before the purge. They don't know what happened to us. I thought Ahsoka died with the 501st, but recently—"
"You just found out she survived,"
Nikki nodded, kneeling beside Jesse's helmet,
"Yeah...she survived. Cal, they were my brothers. All of them. Captain Rex and Commander Cody trained me."
"What do you mean?"
"When I was thrown into this universe, I didn't know I was Force-sensitive. I trained as a Clone first. When I discovered my abilities, I started training under Master Kenobi. The clones called me Victory, from my name Nikki, which comes from Nike, meaning Victory. I thought I would return to Earth after the war, but then the Empire came and the purge happened. I hid with Obi-Wan until I became a Jedi Knight, then continued my training with another Jedi Master. I joined you, Cere, and Greez. And now you're saving me when I don't deserve to be saved."
Cal shook his head, squeezing her shoulder,
"Nikki, you deserve to be saved. You deserve to see Earth again. How else would you, if you die?"
"Maybe if I die, my soul will return to Earth."
"But you'd never be able to say anything to your siblings and best friend."
Nikki sighed,
"I loved Luiz...I didn't realize it until Darth Vader said it. He knew I loved my best friend before I did."
"You knew him before he turned."
"Yeah...he was my older brother. We fought together for a long time. I thought if Ahsoka was alive, maybe I could save him."
"He used to be Anakin Skywalker, didn't he?"
Nikki looked down, nodding.
"Yes...he was Anakin Skywalker."
Cal pulled her into a hug,
"There is no such thing as too much hope. Maybe one day, he will have his redemption."
"Maybe."
"Now, about those clones—"
Nikki chuckled sadly,
"Yeah...I don't like talking about—"
"I'm talking about the six that joined the Rebellion. You know them, don't you?"
"Yeah...Rex and Cody trained me, I think you met them,"
"I never really cared to remember any of their names after the purge, you know that. So. Why does no one know your name? Why go by Sora?"
"Senator Organa thought it would keep everyone around me safe. If the Empire knew I was alive, I'd be hunted for the rest of my life."
"Vader knows you exist."
"But he left me for dead."
"You're still alive, aren't you?"
Nikki sighed, standing up,
"Yeah, I guess I am."
Cal smirked, wrapping an arm around her shoulder,
"Now, that's the best friend I know. Too stubborn to die."
Nikki laughed, punching his shoulder,
"I'm your only friend left."
"Hey! I take offense to that. I have you, Astor, Merrin, Greez, Cere, and BD."
"Gasp, five friends."
"I said six names! BD counts as one!"
Nikki smirked, nudging him,
"Yes, but Merrin doesn't count since you love her!"
Cal blushed, pushing her playfully,
"You really pushed me in my head?"
"I will do it again."
Nikki chuckled, placing a hand on his shoulder,
"Get out of my head so I can finally wake up,"
Cal smirked,
"Took you long enough. No regrets?"
"No regrets."
