Friends

You look around the room, it was way more prettier and cleaner than your room. You shift and look back at Law who has surprisingly been silent since he had gotten a peek of your room. You were actually thankful for the silence.
As if feeling your gaze he blinks and looks at you. "My aunt usually makes dinner around six, my room is down the hall, let me know if those burns start to bother you." He murmurs before heading out. You blink at the empty doorway. His voice sounded soft just then. You shift and brush it off, setting down your bag before sitting on the bed.
It felt soft, unlike your bed. Then again your bed was worn from your tossing and turning. 'That's good, you need to get away from the house.' Smoker's voice pokes at your mind.
"Right..." You breathe, laying down rigidly.

Law peers in at you, finding you fast asleep. He eases in going over as you start to shake and sniff. A small frown comes to his lips as he carefully reaches for your hand.
"Come back...." You whisper, a tear escaping your eye. He stops and runs his hand through his hair before smirking thoughtfully and taking a pillow and smacking your forehead with it, waking you with a jolt.
"It's about time barbarian, you sleep like a rock," He rumbles as you blink up at him.
"Wh.... What do you want?" You ask, voice cracked slightly.
"It's dinner time. Don't keep my aunt waiting." He rumbles turning away. You grumble under your breath and follow after him tiredly. He glances back, shoulders drooping slightly as he leads you to the dining room. You blink at the beautiful woman from before as she set down the plates of food.
She offers a smile as you and Law sit down. "It's you again, Law told me what happened, stay as long as you wish." She says sweetly. "Law they need me at the clinic, so I'll see you later." She smiles.
"Alright auntie, take care." He offers a smile back. You had to do a double take, since you had never seen him give a genuine smile. His aunt leaves and you both eat in silence for a bit.
"You should take a cool bath after you eat. I'll get something's to put in the water to help soothe your burns." He says. You blink and glance at him.
"Yeah okay... Um... Thanks by the way, you didn't have to do any of this." You tell him. Law sits back in his chair, gaze meeting yours briefly.
"I did. You're not good at taking care of yourself. You barely eat by the looks of it, you have bags under your eyes... You need someone to take care of you." He says flatly. You frown and look down at your plate.
"It's not that bad..." You murmur.
"You may think that. But from my perspective it is bad." He gets up before putting up his dishes. "I expect you to eat all of that too." He adds before walking out. You grumble to yourself as you finish eating and clean up your dishes.
Why him? You wondered. Out of everyone, why did he insist on helping you? You've always been rivals so why...
You go back to the room and pause hearing the tub filling up. You go to the bathroom and carefully peer in, seeing him kneeling next to the tub, reading over a bottle before pouring some into the tub. His expression was rather soft as he read over the next bottle. It took you a moment to register that he was the same guy who was always cold toward you.
"Alright, that should do it." He stands after adding whatever was in the other bottle. "I got you a towel as well, I hope it helps your burns." He adds before going out. You close the door behind him before stripping, wincing every once and a while from the burns.
You slip into the tub and relax as it soothes your burns. After a few relaxing moments you hear someone sit against the door.
"You have a lot of unfinished homework here." He comments. You blink and blush lightly.
"Why are you going through my stuff?" You question.
"To bug you.... You suck at anatomy. That's not where the femur is..." He states.
"Shut up! I was just guessing!" You blush more.
"Your math skills are awful too...."
"I suck at everything okay!? That's why I skip because I'm an idiot!" You burst. Silence follows your out burst.
"You're not an idiot.... You just gave up.... You've lost all motivation haven't you?" He guesses. You feel a pain in your chest, looking down at the water.
"What's the point? I'll probably die before it starts to matter... I'll probably never find my soul partner either..." You hug your legs to yourself, burying your face in your knees. Why were you opening up like this? You bite your lip, that dark memory scratching at your mind.
A pair of arms wrapping around you make you freeze, eyes widening. "You're such a pain...." He murmurs. "I know it's painful. But giving up now is like kicking their tombstones."
You tear up hiding your face in his shoulder. "You're right... I'm sorry..." You sniff. His arms tighten around you.
"You haven't gone to see their graves have you?" He guesses quietly.
"I don't want to... I don't want it to sink in..." You shake. "I'm not strong enough..."
"You're stronger than you think...." He pulls back, fingers brushing through your hair. "Now relax and take your bath. After this you have tutoring."
"I don't want to..." You grumble.
"Too bad, I'm gonna make you." He flicks your forehead before going out. You rub your forehead and puff your cheeks at the door as it closes but soon soften with a smile.
"I guess he's not so heartless after all..."
"I heard that."
"I hate you still."
"Right back at you."
