Author's Note

Welcome! Apparently, it's been 4 years since I was regularly active on here, which is absolutely CRAZY to think about. It feels like I just finished Defenders of Middle-Earth months ago.

But I guess I'm old now, and with that comes a decent amount more writing experience. I've gone through my books and, although I'll always love them, I've realized that my writing style has changed pretty drastically since then.

Along the way, I've also unearthed what can only be described as a Metric Ton of half-finished drafts. If you've been with me for a while, you know I had a bad habit of starting stories... and then letting them drift into the void. It never sat right with me. I still think about every one of them, imagining how they could've ended, where the characters might have gone if I'd just stuck with it.

And that brings us here.

The Last Stand is a project I started years ago, originally meant to explore all the "what ifs" of my original tetralogy. The outline alone was so full of alternate scenarios and branching outcomes, I could probably turn it into a Choose Your Own Adventure game.

Fast-forward to today, and I'm also working on another (yes, unfinished) story: The Children of the North. It's a spiritual successor to Defenders of Middle Earth, told from the perspective of the next generation. Think of it as my tentative step into YA: lighter in tone, more about high adventure than the doom and gloom of earlier entries.

...Well, until the doom inevitably creeps back in. You know me.

So as I write The Children of the North, I intend also to work on The Last Stand. That way, CotN doesn't turn into the doomfest my books tend to become if I have free reign with no other outlet for my dark machinations. I've stated publicly that I wouldn't release ANY of The Children of the North until I finish it, which I intend to follow through with. But in the meantime, I guess y'all will get to enjoy (or loathe) the absolute MESS that is The Last Stand

But a big disclaimer before we begin:
The Last Stand is NOT canon. At all. It's an alternate universe: my sandbox of broken rules and darker paths. There will be contradictions. There will be blood. Beloved characters will die. Some won't appear at all.

This is my no-holds-barred take on what happens when the good guys lose.
And what good people do... when there's truly no hope left.
