Chapter 2: Dinner and a Show

Hi everyone! Sorry again for the delay! This chapter is a little longer than normal to help make up for my slowness. Things start to pick up starting with the next chapter!  Quick side note: the movie choice later in the chapter was decided by one of my friends. I thought it was a bit appropriate so I went with it. Lol Hope you all enjoy! :)

"Ugh... what happened?" Alex asked groggily the next morning. She was draped over the toilet, in the long process of vomiting her brains out. She had been there for at least an hour, with Diana holding her long red hair out of her face. Honestly, Diana was growing weary of helping her friend recover, but she was sticking by her regardless.

"For the seventh time, you got completely drunk. You hit your head on an overhanging light and passed out," Diana sighed. "Some dude you were swappin' tongue with carried you back."

"Did I get his number?" the hungover girl asked.

"Yeah, and I ripped it up," Diana said, matter-of-factly, knowing very well her friend was about to flip about it.

Alex turned herself around to face her friend, an annoyed look upon her face. "Why?"

"Because he was probably a jerk and/or a womanizer and you deserve better than that," Diana replied. "Besides, you probably don't remember much of it anyways."

Alex went to reply, but quickly turned to get sick in the toilet once again. Moments later, she looked up at Diana. "You need to loosen up a bit."

Diana shrugged, standing back up and leaning against the wall behind her. "Yeah, maybe so, but at least one of us needs to be the responsible one. Besides, I still got to see Artemis for a bit. Shame I fell asleep before he was able to stop by last night though."

"Well, maybe you'll see him later today," Alex decided, pulling herself up to lean against the counter. "But... as much as I would love to keep chatting, I am in desperate need of a shower."

Diana sighed. "Well, I'll let you do that."

The girl exited the bathroom and collapsed on her bed. She looked at her cell phone. No new messages or missed calls. Diana was hoping Artemis got in contact with her soon since she messed up last night and fell asleep. She felt bad, but she knew Artemis wouldn't be too upset about it. He knew how draining the school year had been thus far. When she was about to give up hope, her phone went off. She sprung up and immediately reached for her phone. She stared at the name on the screen, and smiled.

"Hey, Artemis," Diana answered happily.

"Good afternoon. I wasn't sure if you were awake yet," Artemis' voice greeted.

"I've been awake for a while," Diana responded. "Alex is a bit hungover, so I have been up dealing with that, unfortunately."

He chuckled slightly. "One of the various reasons I don't drink alcohol."

"Yeah," Diana agreed. "Same here usually."

"I've seen you drink, so don't play innocent with me. It doesn't suit you," Artemis pretended to scold. Diana laughed, but then he added smugly, "So, since you fell asleep before I could visit, I think you owe me."

Diana resisted the urge to roll her eyes at her boyfriend. Always the theatrics with him. "Well, what exactly did you have in mind?" she inquired, playing along.

"What are you doing this evening?" he asked her, with a bit of what seemed to be nervousness lingering in his voice. They had been together for just over two years now, and Artemis still got jittery about asking her out. Diana honestly loved that he still treated her like he did when they first got together, at least in that regard.

"Uh... nothing as far as I know," Diana thought out loud. "Why do you ask?"

"Would you like to hang out? Maybe go to dinner or a movie or something?" Artemis asked rather quickly.

"I would love to," Diana replied, a large smile on her face.

"Glad to hear it," he said. "Alright, well, I'll be there around six. Is that good for you?"

"Six sounds lovely," Diana sighed.

"Well, I'll see you then, love."

"Mmkay, Artemis. I look forward to it," Diana assured.

"As do I. I love you. Farewell," he concluded.

"I love you too. Good-bye, Arty." Diana hung up the phone, sighing deeply to herself.

She leaned back against the wall, closing her eyes. How could she have gotten so lucky? While a lot of her friends struggled with relationships, here she was with one that was as close to perfect as it could get. Who would've guessed that two years after being kidnapped by a crazed businessman she would be here in Ireland, so happily taken by the boy- er, man- who rescued her. Even after all this time, Artemis still seemed almost too good to be true. Her content thoughts were interrupted when she heard Alex clear her throat.

"And what has you looking so euphoric?" she questioned.

"Apparently, Artemis is taking me out tonight, so you're on your own," Diana explained. "Can you handle being the adult in our friendship by not getting yourself killed while I'm out?"

Alex rolled her eyes. "I think I can manage that, mom. I suppose you should start getting ready then."

Diana nodded, and without another word she made her way to the bathroom to freshen up. She took a quick shower, and once she was done with that, she moved on to her hair and makeup. When it was all said and done, her makeup was done just perfectly, her hair had been pulled back into a half ponytail, and she had slipped into a burgundy cocktail dress. Just as she was putting on her heels, there was a knock on the door. It caught both Diana and Alex off guard, as it was much earlier than Artemis had said he would be arriving.

Alex smirked. "I'll get it."

She jumped off her bed and crossed the room to the door. Diana watched as her friend opened the door, revealing Artemis standing just on the other side. He was dressed in a black suit, paired with a blood red tie. Diana felt her heart skip a beat, but said nothing.

"Hello, Artemis," Alex greeted. "You're early."

"Ah, hello, Alex. I trust you're feeling better?" Artemis replied, a smirk toying at his lips. "And you should know I prefer to be early."

Alex nodded, sighing. "I feel much better, thanks for your false concern," she muttered. "Your girlfriend should be ready here in a moment."

Artemis smiled slightly as Diana appeared in the doorway next to Alex. He had to admit that she looked stunning. He and Diana just stood there, oblivious to the fact that Alex was still standing there, staring at each other. Alex cleared her throat, and the two snapped out of it.

"Oh, uh... are you ready to go?" Artemis asked.

Diana smiled back at him. "Ready as I'll ever be."

"Let's leave then, shall we?" Artemis suggested. He offered her his arm, and Diana linked her arm with his before the two of them began walking away.

Before they got too far away, Alex called out, "Keep it PG! And you better be home tonight young lady!"

Artemis had led Diana out of the dorms and out to the Fowl's Bentley. He approached the car, unlocking it, before opening the passenger door, allowing Diana to get in first.

"Thanks," she replied, gazing around the interior of the vehicle. No matter how many times Artemis picked her up in the luxury car, she was still amazed by it.

Artemis walked around to the other side of the Bentley and got in the driver's seat. Within moments, he began to drive them off the campus and towards the city. Not too long later, Artemis parked the car in a parking lot of a large restaurant. The two had been seated within moments of entering the building, and were sat at a small table towards the back of the restaurant. They had just placed their orders, when Artemis spoke.

"So I see Alex recovered from her escapades last night," he replied. "How long did she get sick this morning?"

Diana shrugged. "A couple hours, at least. I made her drink a lot of water and get some more rest. Seemed to do the trick. She was a bit upset I didn't give her that guy's number though."

Artemis frowned. "I know she is upset about her situation with her sister and her ex-boyfriend, but surely she could do better than some drunken one-night stand?"

Diana sighed. "I certainly think so, which is why I did what I did."

"I wouldn't concern yourself with it. You did the right thing," Artemis assured. "You only want what's best for her, after all. She would do the same for you if the situations were reversed."

"I suppose you're right," Diana admitted.

Before Artemis had a chance to reply, the waiter came back with their food. The two of them talked lightly over their meals, catching up on what happened during the week with their respective classes, as well as whatever else may have occurred. Some time had passed, and before Diana knew it, they had both finished off their meals. Honestly she was hoping that this didn't mean that her time with Artemis was coming to an end for the evening. Time sure seemed to fly when she was with him...

"We should probably get going," Artemis decided.

After leaving enough money on the table to sufficiently pay for both the meals and still have a healthy tip left over, Artemis led Diana back outside to the vehicle where they began the trek back to campus. On the way home, Artemis turned to look at her.

"Do you want to come to my dorm for a little bit?" he asked.

Diana thought that was a tad suggestive, but ignored it. "Sure, but let me change into something a little more comfortable."

The two arrived at the dorms soon after. They walked up to Diana's room, however, when she tried to open the door, she found it was locked, which meant Alex wasn't there. Off to find Sebastian, or stalking them, she presumed.

"Great," she sighed. "It's locked, and I don't have my keys."

Artemis frowned slightly. "You can always borrow something of mine, if you like."

"Considering that I can't get into my room even if I wanted to, that would be lovely," Diana answered. "Plus I really like wearing your clothes, Arty."

"Very well, follow me," he announced, unable to hide the blush forming on his face.

Artemis led her up to the next floor and around a few corners. He stopped at a door that was the only one on that wall. He took out his keys and quickly found the one belonging to his room amongst the keys for the car, his parents' manor, and other miscellaneous keys. He unlocked the door and allowed Diana to step inside first.

Shutting the door behind him, he spoke, "Ah, home sweet home."

Diana glanced around the room, still in disbelief at how homey he had made the small area. Artemis's room was far larger than the room she shared with Alex, and Diana assumed it was mostly because he could afford it. Plus he had no roommate, so he had much more space to play around with than the girls did. Diana sat down on the edge of his bed, looking out the window while Artemis went to find something for her to change into.

He crossed the room to his closet. He stepped inside and appeared moments later with a pair of pajama pants and a plain black t-shirt. "I hope these will suffice for more comfortable clothing."

Diana nodded and took the clothes from Artemis's hands. "I'll be right back."

Diana went to the bathroom, shutting the door behind her. She quickly slipped out of her dress, hanging it on a hook on the back of the door. She kicked off her heels, and they landed sloppily in the corner. She put on Artemis's clothes with ease, finding them much more comfortable than her dress. She had no problem wearing a guy's clothes. This was not the first time she had, and it was surely not to be the last.

She emerged from the bathroom to find Artemis flipping through a rack of DVD's. He noticed her presence and asked, "Anything in particular you want to watch?"

"Not at all," Diana answered.

"Well, you're no help," Artemis chuckled, teasing her. "What about The Godfather?"

Diana couldn't help but smile; it was one of his favorites. Something about organized crime always pulled him back. Diana often wondered if it was a sign he really wasn't meant to be on the straight and narrow path, but he had assured her he was. She had a hard time telling him no though, so she nodded. "That sounds delightful."

Artemis popped the DVD in the DVD player and crossed the room to his bed and sat down. "You can sit down, you know. I don't bite," he replied, a smirk forming on his face.

"Are you sure about that?" Diana asked, not being able to resist a laugh.

Diana crossed the room and plopped down next to him. She tried to focus on the movie but she just couldn't. She was sitting next to the man of her dreams, and she had seen this movie dozens of times already so she honestly didn't mind staring at her boyfriend instead. Diana found herself moving closer to him, and before she knew it, she was lying down, resting her head on his chest. Her hand played with his fingers for a moment until Artemis intertwined his with hers. Diana smiled, and closed her eyes, for once perfectly content. Artemis ran his free hand through her hair, and next thing he knew Diana was sleeping. He decided to let her be; she looked so peaceful when she was asleep. Artemis smiled slightly, and before long, he joined her, slipping off into a deep sleep, both completely unaware of how complicated things were soon going to be.
