The Last Moment

"I thought we had more time."

The world is in flames beneath us.

"Me too. I thought we had forever."

We are eternal beings, we're supposed to never die... but that is truth no more. A spark is flung up to hit my face, the sting is an unfamiliar mortal pain. Her wings, once pure white, are ash-stained, but we are still aloft, free of the flames for as long as we can stay in the air.

She smiles at me, despite it all, and says,

"I guess the only moment we can be sure to have is now."
