Chapter five

Chloe made her way to the bedroom, while Sebastian remained in the kitchen. He was still a little uneasy with the concept of Chloe not having a reflection and chose to refrain from accompanying her near anything that would potentially reflect one.

From the bedside table, her phone started ringing, but her attention remained on the mirror. She brought her hand to the dark sheet and grimaced as the cut on her knuckles brushed against the fabric. She pulled her hand back instantly and inspected the cut. It looked raw and deep, but the blood was dry. Nonetheless, she pulled back the sheet and removed it from the mirror, dropping it onto the floor.

Her reflection was still absent, yet the rest of the room was still mirrored clearly. Chloe brought her hand to the glass and pushed lightly. The surface was sealed.

"Man, that's creepy." Sebastian's voice from the doorway made her jump.

"Sebastian, I thought you didn't want to be near me in front of this thing."

"What can I say, curiosity killed the cat. Hey, is that your phone ringing?"

Chloe turned her head to her bedside table. "Yeah, but it's just my mom."

Sebastian raced over to her phone and picked it up. "don't you think your mother might have the answers we need right now?" He answered it and held it out for Chloe to take.

Chloe rolled her eyes and took the phone regardless. "Hi, mom. I went to sleep, that's all."

While Chloe continued to speak to her mother on the phone, Sebastian eyed the mirror with great intent. His eyes danced from his reflection to the position where Chloe's should've been. He couldn't even see the phone she was holding until she placed it on the chest of draws.

"Mom's clueless," Chloe said.

"Damn. Do you see that?" Sebastian pointed to a black coat which sat on the bed in the reflection and then turned to the bed behind them.

"I'm sorry. I don't see anything," Chloe replied. "What are you looking at?"

Sebastian focused on the reflection and then back at the bed behind him. He looked up at Chloe. "Never mind, my eyes must be playing tricks on me. Anyway, I came in here to tell you that Doctor Ambers requested to speak with you about that blood sample. She said she might be onto something."

"Doctor Ambers? Wasn't she that woman you dated a few months back?"

"She was, yeah. Why?"

"Never mind. Just when you said you had a buddy testing the blood work I thought you meant..."

"Thought I meant what?"
Sebastian shuffled uneasily as his eyes rested on the fresh cut on her hand.

"I thought you were talking about some guy. Hey, Seb... can I speak freely, for a moment?" As Sebastian started to back away slowly, Chloe used the same pace to zero in on him.

"You know you can tell me anything, Chlo. What's on your mind?"

Sebastian felt his back press into the cold mirror behind him, just as Chloe pressed herself against him. "Oh Seb... Sweet Seb, My best friend for... how many years? You have to know that I'm in love with you and I know you feel the same way. Don't think I haven't seen the way you watch me when I'm not looking."

Chloe's lips pressed against Sebastian's firmly as her hands found their way to his hips. Sebastian's eyes closed for merely a second, his temptation at its highest peak.

"You're not... you're not Chloe." He took her by the hands and moved her away, accidently brushing over her cut in the process.

"Ow, you, asshole! That hurt... wait! You know?"

Sebastian stepped forward again in anger. "Of course, I know. She has a mole on the right side of her face... not the left. Where is she? Tell me where she is!"

His very declaration forced a complete change of persona to arise in Chloe. It was somewhat vindictive. "She's dead, lover boy. You're stuck with me."

"You're lying!"

"Am I? You really think I would lie to you? I'm the opposite of her, remember? Do you have any idea just how many times she has lied to you? God, you're so stupid. She's the evil one... I've just been clawing to get back out of there."

Sebastian was having a hard time hearing just what the girl was trying to say. "I'm sorry, back out of there?"

"What do you think happened the night my grandmother died? I'm the real Chloe. Not just some damn reflection."

Sebastian stared at the mirror and then back at Chloe. All that she was claiming had to be lies. There was no way that this woman's explanation was the truth. He had only just seen Chloe... and yes, her mole had been sitting on the opposite side of her lower jaw. She had just explained everything to him. She had to be in the mirrorverse... He couldn't think of any other option.

"So, take me to her. Show me where she is," he said, silently vowing to bring her back from the depths of hell if needed.

"Don't you understand? I did this for you... I did this for us," Chloe declared. "She doesn't love you. Just look at the birthday she planned for you... I would have planned something far greater... something with a little more consideration."

"Take me to her!"

Chloe shrugged. She stepped toward the mirror and quickly brought up her palm, slamming it into the glass. Sebastian remarked as ripples formed, just like water. With her other hand, Chloe grabbed Sebastian by the shirt and pushed him into the mirror, sealing the glass behind him.

With a smug smile, she looked around the room. "Well, he was no loss... Now, what fun can I get upto?"
