Chapter13: Holding Back
ChapterThirteen-Holding Back
October 16th, 2006
It's two weeks later. UTurn has finally finished recording their second album. Trevor has replaced Ethan's vocals with his own. As for his time at his new school, the Boston Creative Arts School, he grew to really like it. He and Andrew have become fast friends.
As for the rest of the UTurn members, they only surviving in their classes. Everything else, they've never felt so miserable and bored in their lives. It's now lunch time, and they're sitting together, barely touching their food.
Bailey asked in a bored tone, "Aly, are you still upset about Andrew dumping you?"
Alyson feeling irritated, replied, "Well, that doesn't help things, does it?"
Just then, Libby and her clique approached the table. She taunted, "Hey Alyson, feeling like shit cuz you're not queen of this school?"
Libby's minions laughed, and they went to their own table. Alyson groaned, "Ugh, my life is hell."
The members were silent for a while, then Justin spoke up, "You know, we don't have to finish school here. Why don't we transfer over to the Boston Creative Arts School? We get to graduate high school, and become better singers and dancers. And we can become actors since we might film our TV series next year."
Bailey smiled, "Actually, that's not a bad idea."
Alyson then said with determination in her voice, "Let's ditch school now, go to our manager, and tell him to let us transfer to that arts school!"
The members agreed. They left their lunch trays, and they headed for their lockers. They cleaned them out, and off they went to see their manager.
They arrived at Maurice's office. When they entered, he was bit startled. He asked, "What are you doing here? Shouldn't you be in school?"
Alyson said, "We want to switch schools. We wanna go to the Boston Creative Arts School. We can't let our talents go to waste while we're wrapping up high school."
"I'll have to contact your parents, but I don't see why not."
It's now afternoon. All of the UTurn members were back in their house...except Andrew. Alyson approached Trevor to ask where he was, "Trevor, where's Andrew? Wasn't he your ride?"
Trevor replied, "Yeah, but he dropped me off. He said he had to go somewhere. He didn't really explain much."
Then Alyson went up Justin in the kitchen. She asked him, "Justin, can you call Andrew?"
Justin asked, "Why can't you?"
"He barely talks to me ever since we broke up. He wouldn't even answer my calls and texts."
"Fine, I'll call him."
So Justin took out his cell phone, and called Andrew.
At the same time, Andrew was driving in his car. As stopped at a red light, he picked up his ringing cell phone. He saw on his caller ID that it was Justin. He answered it. "Justin, what is it?"
Justin replied, "Alyson wanted me to call for some reason."
"Why?"
"Well, she just told me to ask you where you at."
"I just have to do something."
Back at the house, Justin turned to Alyson, "He said he has something to do."
Alyson asked, "Like what?"
Justin repeated the same question to Andrew. He replied, "It's something personal. That's all I'm saying."
Justin then changed the subject by saying, "Well, in a lighter note, all of the UTurners will be going to your new school tomorrow."
Andrew replied with a lighter tone, "Really? That's cool! Are your's and the others' parents okay with this?"
"For the most part. They're paying half on the tuition, whilst our manager is paying the other half. Some of our parents don't like this, but they're willing to let us transfer."
"Well, at least you won't be the only UTurn guy at that f*cking high school anymore."
"Tell me about. Anyway, I'll let you go do whatever it is you have to do."
Then they both hung up. Andrew parked at an office buildin. He put on his sunglasses, and went out of his car. He entered this building, and went to a psychiatrist's office. This was his third visit to a psychiatrist. He felt he needed some direction in his life.
He sat down, the psychiatrist spoke up, "Mr. Hawthorne, I've decided to cut your six-week session short. It's because I feel you don't need that much time."
Andrew was shocked by this statement, so he asked, "Why do you say that?"
"You know who you are, but you're scared. Do you know why?"
Andrew was shocked by all of this, then he remained silent for a few minutes. He soon spoke up: "You're right. I'm scared. I've always been scared. When I started taking singing lessons, I was terrorizing everyone in school. I was 6 then. I was scared that I would be considered 'weak' in the other students' eyes. The more involved I was in with the performing arts, the more scared I was of everyone. I loved the fear I had on everyone. To make matters worse, my own grandparents, my dad's parents, told me I was weak. They told me they would disown me if I go to Broadway. The Hawthorne family consists of mainly lawyers. Some of my cousins have recently rejected me because I'm a popstar. My older brother has always questioned my choices. He's half-hearted in his support for me. Only my parents and my little sister are fully supportive. My parents always wanted me and my siblings to be happy. It doesn't bother them that I don't want to be a lawyer. My sister wants to be like me."
Then the psychiatrist asked, "But do you love performing?"
"Of course I do. I love being on stage. I love dancing the most. I always pretended to be someone I wasn't. I'm a natural-born lawyer. I can force my way into anywhere I want. But...it's not what I want. It's...not who I am."
"So who are you?"
Andrew answered nervously, "I'm...a performing artist. I'm a Broadway prodigy. I'm a classically-trained dancer. I'm a teen popstar."
With that, the psychiatrist smiled.
An hour later, Andrew arrived at the UTurn house. He saw some of the members excitedly talking. He approached them, and they saw him walking up. He asked, "What's going on?"
Stacie replied, "We're just talking about our classes at that arts school for tomorrow."
Amanda chimed in, "At least we're doing something, and not constantly sitting around, being bored out of our minds."
Justin asked, "So, where were you, Andrew?"
Andrew said, "That's what I'll tell Alyson. Where is she?"
Stacie said, "She's in her room."
So Andrew walked over to the door of Alyson and Bailey's room. He called out for Alyson. She opened the door. She asked, "What is it?"
Andrew asked, "Can I come in? We need to talk."
Alyson let Andrew in. He sat on her bed, while she sat on her chair. Andrew explained to her that, for three weeks, he had been seeing a psychiatrist. He explained he needed direction, but as it turned out, he already knew who he was. He was just scared to admit that he's a performing artist.
Alyson said, "You could've told me all this. I could've helped you."
Andrew said, "And that was why I had to break up with you. I needed to figure myself out. He needed figure out why I felt lost. All this time I was scared of myself. I'm still coming to terms with the fact that the real 'me' is a performing artist, not some f*cked up bully who's too pretty to be scary."
Alyson then gave a small laugh as she said, "Yeah, I always thought you just too small and pretty to be a bully."
"Hey, I was only small until I turned 15. I looked like I was 10 and under for much my whole life."
"And now you're a sexy 17-year-old."
Andrew then gave a lustful smile, and kissed Alyson passionately. She felt satisfied with him kissing her, but she felt unsure. So she pulled away. Andrew asked breathlessly, "What is it?"
Alyson, breathlessly, replied with a question, "Are we back together or not?"
Andrew thought for a moment, then he spoke up, "Are you willing to help me out? Help me to be who I am, which is this Broadway prodigy who's a popstar?"
"Andrew, you're already comfortable of being this really talented guy. I can see it you that you can't wait to be onstage, on TV, in the recording studio, and in dance studio. You love what you do, and I can tell you wouldn't give it up. Yes, you do hold yourself back at times, but once we perform, you just forget about being scared of what others say. Besides, who cares if most of your family doesn't support you? Your parents and your little sister does...and as your girlfriend, I do to. But I'll help you cuz I love you."
Andrew smiled, and the couple went back to making out.
