25. the ember burning inside of us
Lol double update Bc I work tmr)
The finalities of the battle were intense, it was nothing like you had ever seen before.
It felt more like a goodbye—the ending of a villain this generation had hardly known, and to the hero who kept you all on your feet for decades.
All Might was bloodied, on the verge of death some would say. You saw flickers of your grandfather bounce around the screen—and you felt a moment of relief once it seemed the villain wouldn't get up again.
With fleeting strength, All Might adjusted his footing and raised his bloody hand in the air with a mighty fist, returning to his muscle form a final time to ease the public's mind.
But as the news reporters were divulging the news about All Might's final act as the number one hero, he returned to his normal state, holding out his pointer finger towards the camera.
"Now." The audio was clear. "It's your turn."
Izuku's eyes were glued to the screen, even as they welled with tears so uncontrollable he doubled over. And all you could do was watch along with Bakugou, wondering.
**
You didn't want to be at the hospital, but your father and grandfather had insisted.
You ended up being completely fine, the doctors suggested that your guardians watched you regularly for any signs of PTSD.
But now that the insanity of the last few days had slowed down, you were ready for some answers.
"Where is he?" You demanded your father, who you were now done putting up with his hugs and apologies.
"I told you—he's with All Might."
"I want to talk to him too."
When your father refused to take you to them, you searched through every hospital room until you found the one you were looking for.
You experienced some cries of protests from patients you were disturbing, but in the moment you didn't care.
You slammed the door open, cringing at how loud it actually was.
All Might, in his shrunken down form, glanced up at you with a small smile. "Ah, hello young Aizawa." He was expecting you.
"I need to speak with all of you."
*
"I know who All For One is now, so I'm done with all of the secrets." You were pacing across the room, addressing the three men. All Might was still in his bed and pitifully covered in bandages, while Gramps held himself up with his walking stick, and your father had occupied the chair Tsukauchi once sat in. "I want some answers. Now." You snapped.
The three of them exchanged glances.
"We were only trying to keep you safe." Your grandfather said begrudgingly. He didn't want to have this conversation, he stood by the fact that it wasn't safe for you to know and he hated explaining himself.
You nodded. "No shit, but that's not what I want to hear." Your father gave you a look that said I know you're mad, but watch your language. Just because of that warning look, you resisted the urge to flip him off.
"Where would you like us to start, Y/n?" Your father asked.
Your brows furrowed. "Who is Nana Shimura?"
All Might visibly stiffened at that one, you snapped and pointed at him. "Aha! I knew you were involved somehow."
"Y/n." Your grandfather snapped. "This is not a laughing matter."
"I'll be mindful of how the three of you feel once I get the answers I've deserved the last eighteen years." You snapped right back.
"You just turned sixteen." One of them added.
"So not the point!"
"Nana," All Might started, "She was my master."
Your eyes narrowed. "I need the full story and I know it doesn't end at that. How are you connected to Izuku? Why did your words at Kamino make him sob like that?" Your voice hitched at the memory.
"Y/n that's not-"
"Please." Your voice cracked, begging now instead of demanding. "I can't handle any more secrets."
All Might sighed. "Are you okay with this, Torino?"
"I was going to ask you the same thing, All Might."
All Might nodded, his eyes peering into yours. "Nana Shimura was the seventh holder of a power known as One For All."
That sounds strangely like- "I won't bore you with all of the details on how the power came to be, but it was derived by All For One and evolved into a power that would one day defeat him."
You nodded slowly.
"I was the eighth holder of that power."
Your eyes widened, as your mind began to compare the way his arm flickered a brilliant gold to- "And Izuku is the ninth."
All Might winced, but nodded. "Yes."
Your heart pounded against your chest. "Woah...okay."
"He was sworn to secrecy, just like you'll be when you leave this room, girl." Your grandfather piped in, still uneasy.
You nodded slowly. "But what about Shigaraki? Who is he?"
Gran Torino looked to the floor and then back up at you. "Biologically, your brother."
It was all slowly starting to piece together. "Do you know why?" You whispered. "Why he let me live and not the others?"
Your father shook his head. "He was just a child at the time, we're sure he wasn't even thinking rationally."
"Bu-But what about my quirk?" You stammered. "They're both so different and-"
"You take after Nana." Your grandfather smiled. "Just a more mutated version of what she could do."
"Shigaraki's quirk is a mutation as well. Must've been a gene one of your biological parents carried." Your father added, his arms still crossed and his expression was closed off. He clearly didn't like that he was having this conversation, he spent years putting it off.
"But why does he want me?" You asked. "All For One?"
"To hurt me." All Might sighed. "With Shigaraki, he raised him to hate me and other heroes to hurt me and her memory. He knows how much she meant to me, that's why he killed her."
Your eyes widened.
"She wasn't even in possession of one for all when she died, he will do whatever he can to get that power back and kill everyone ever associated with it."
"And that girl, that includes you."
**
You and Izuku met on the roof of the hospital that night, just a few hours away from being discharged.
"I'm surprised your mom let you come up here alone." You chuckled softly once you heard the door click shut, and his feet shuffle as he sat besides you.
"It took a lot of convincing." He laughed softly.
"I bet." You sighed, thinking back to your own conversation with your father, asking him to let you come up here alone.
Everyone was extra protective of you.
"How did your conversation go?" He asked. "With your dad and grandpa?"
"Oh, All Might was there too." You hummed, noticing the way Izuku's eyes went wide.
"All Might? Why?"
You looked him in the eyes that moment, a deep pounding in your heart as the wind whipped through your hair.
You knew what you had to do, if this was going to go any further.
"This is your chance to be honest with me Izuku, I don't give much chances after I find out people have lied to me." He looked confused, but then his eyes widened as he pieced together what you were asking about.
"Y/n, I'm not sup-"
"Tell me your truth, Izuku, about your connection with All Might and my grandmother." You reached out and grabbed his hand, squeezing it once, your fingers outlining the scars that hadn't been there during the training camp. The last time you had held his hand. "Tell me, please. Or walk away from me."
You needed this, this honesty with him. You couldn't be honest with him and your truth if he wouldn't give you his.
Izuku took a deep breath, for a moment you thought his loyalty to All Might was so strong that he was going to stand and walk away, but he told you everything.
Starting from his quirkless birth, his lifetime of being bullied by Bakugou, his first encounter with All Might, and all that building up to it.
And then, you told him yours.
Starting from being the one who lived, Nana Shimura, Tomura Shigaraki, your quirk, your everything.
"Can you still love me one day, even though I kept my greatest secret from you?" He asked softly, his fingers trailing the lines of your palms.
You felt the heat rise to your cheeks as you glanced up at him. "What about you? Can you still love me even though my brother is destined to be your greatest enemy?" You deflected his question.
Izuku gazed into your eyes, the lights of the city around you both reflecting in his eyes.
His free hand gripped your thigh as he pulled you closer, the other touching softly under your chin as his lips connected with yours.
It felt like fireworks were going off around you. With so much uncertainty in your life, so much baggage that was finally beginning to be unpacked, it was everything to know that you would have one constant in your life no matter what.
Izuku Midoriya, was so perfectly that.
end of Arc 1
okay so I wanted to include a little writing analysis in this chapter, because Y/n seemingly made some decisions I thought would be questionable to some.
The one I really want to focus on is her ultimatum she gave to Izuku.
My first thought was "wow, this is really toxic, so I want to go here with this?" But then I realized how could I not.
This girl has spent her whole life being lied to and she found out that Izuku was as well, but she couldn't go forward in a relationship with him knowing his secret. She wanted to give him a chance to tell her himself, to choose her.
Poor girl has never truly had an honest relationship with someone.
So yeah, I think Izuku understands where she's coming from as well. If he really wants a relationship with her then he was going to have to make some decisions about who knows his secret (especially since Bakugou finds out soon)
But yeah, that's that :)
