29. main character perks
"Eraser? Is that really you Eraser?"
You stumbled off the bus to the sound of a woman's voice. Your classmates were standing just before it, talking about with some students from other hero courses.
"I saw you on tv, it's been way too long since we've met again in person!"
The woman was really pretty, with long green hair and a wicked smile.
You walked closer to your father, curious about where this conversation was going. He looked incredibly uncomfortable, like the only thing he could think about was running away from this woman.
"Let's get married!"
"No thanks."
With a wicked grin you ran over to your father and grabbed him by the arm. "Daddy! Is this my new mommy?"
Your father glowered at you, placed his hand on your head and shoving you off him. "You're not funny, you little twerp."
Ms Joke, who's name you knew by Izuku's external analysis/monologue, burst out laughing.
"Why yes I am you little cutie." She placed her hand on your head, rubbing your hair and speaking to you like a child.
You didn't like that, she took the joke to far, but the aggravated look on your father's face was incredibly worth it.
"No you're not!" He snapped.
Ms Joke turned back to Aizawa, hands on her hips.
"Marry me and we can build a happy household together full of laughter." She grinned.
"None of that seems happy to me," his eyes slitted. "I'm happy enough as it is, thank you."
"I haven't seen your kid in ages, Aizawa. So mean to keep me out of the loop." She pouted.
He scoffed. "You only ever saw a picture of her."
You were now bored of their conversation and found no further way to torment your father. So, you returned to your friends.
"He's going to kill you when we get back to the dorms." Izuku whispered as you looped your arm through his.
"Totally worth it," you grinned like a gremlin. "Wasn't his face funny?"
Izuku nodded quickly and quietly, like he believed he'd get in trouble if he said it out loud.
"Woah! It's really them!"
A voice distracted you from plotting more ways to mortify your father. Izuku pulled you towards the front of the pack of your classmates and you saw a tall boy with dark, messy hair.
The boy immediately came forward and grabbed Izuku's hands. "My names Shindo! U.A has really had a rough year, huh? But you guys are still standing!"
wow, this dude is really going a million miles a minute.
He shook Kaminari and Jirou's hands as he spoke, but then stopped at you, his hand held limply and his mouth agape.
Your brows furrowed and your expression went all grumpy mode (no I won't tell you who calls it that).
"I lost my train of thought...somewhere in your eyes." He grinned like a dope, his hand twitching like he wanted to touch yours like he had with everyone else but had something stopping him.
You scoffed, looking away from him and summoning your inner Chloe Bourgeois. You waved your hand at him. "Keep moving along."
After a while of introductions, and Bakugou's rude but warranted remarks—you all headed towards the changing rooms to get into costume.
"I don't like that everyone falls for you the moment they meet you." Izuku whispered in your ear.
You grinned devilishly. "Don't be sad, it's just my main character perks."
That only made him grumble more. "I thought we decided I was the main character."
You shook your head. "No your story would be too basic, if anything it would be Bakugou's, but I've decided it's my story. I mean my background is pretty tragic."
Before Izuku could reply, "Y/n! Stop flirting you little egotist and get a move one!" Mina called out to you.
You squeezed his arm gently with a laugh. "See you later."
Running after Mina, "He's my boyfriend you perv! And I wasn't flirting!"
**
The ground shook as the exam room opened and you were met of a large stadium full of different terrains for your choosing.
This task would be simple if you could stay in the shadows.
You fixed your targets on your shoulders and your thigh. You only had to get two of them, this should be easy.
"Guys! They won't be fighting their classmates so we should stick together." Izuku called out.
You winced at the thought.
You'd usually love to work besides him, but not this time. This was something you'll have to do on your own.
"I need to find somewhere I can blend in, I need to be ready to be airborne at any second." You told Izuku, running off before he could reply.
"Good luck." You heard faintly but you just kept moving.
You followed Todoroki. You weren't sure why, but you didn't know the layout of this arena yet and he was always a good person to stick by. He attracts a lot of attention, you could stick to the shadows of wherever he went and get the targets of those who try and take him on.
He stopped in a large, factory looking part of area full of tall towers, tanks, and loads of bars to swing and perch on as you waited for your targets.
You lost him in the maze of the buildings.
There was no one else around there and your desire to talk to someone was overpowering your internal reminder to wait for the other students to come.
You leaped across the each building, carefully walking across the narrow pole like a tight rope walker. You finally found Todoroki hiding behind one of the larger structures, appearing to be inner monologuing.
Jumping from the building, you landed quietly on your feet as you padded over to him and whispered in his ear, "Boo."
He jumped and turned with a ball in his hand—ready to throw it at you.
"Don't shoot!" You shrieked as you covered your face and your targets.
He groaned. "Aizawa-San."
"Did I scare you?" You drawled, a teasing smirk on your lips.
"I should tag you out for that." He grumbled. "Why are you here and not with Midoriya?"
You scoffed. "You act like I do everything with him."
Todoroki blinked. "Don't you?"
Rightttt I forgot he lacks a sense of humor.
"No I'm not always with that clinger."
"Isn't he your boyfriend?"
"Yeah, yeah, same thing."
"I don't think it is."
"Anyways," You laughed. "I followed you this way because you always seem to know what you're doing. And clearly I was right to follow you because this arena is perfect for me."
His brows furrowed. "I don't always know what I'm doing."
"Well, buddy, you sure as hell act like it."
The announcer spoke and informed everyone that there were already fifty-two, no fifty-three spots taken.
Your eyes met and you both knew there was no time to wait around.
The two of you ran from your little hideout, ready to search for some groups. You almost missed the quick whirl of the ball by your ear, stumbling as Todoroki pushed you out of his range and blasted the little ball with his flames.
"If you're going to be sticking around, you need to catch up."
You grunted as the smoke cleared and you were faced with your targets.
"That was pretty good!" The boy dressed in a more ninja like hero costume laughed. "Though I would've expected more from the runner up of the U.A sports festival."
"What did you trip?" The same boy laughed, mocking your failure at noticing their incoming attack. "Aizawa and Todoroki, right? I'm surprised you all are running out here alone. Don't you know that everyone comes for the U.A kids first?"
"This is perfect." You grinned, ignoring their taunts and tossing and catching your ball repeatedly.
"Now we don't have to search for opponents."
You flipped out of Todoroki's way as he readied his arm for attack and you readied yourself for yours, releasing your scarf and your stars.
The group of ninjas tried to overpower you, confident that their ten on two strategy would work.
Todoroki created a big wall of spiked ice and you let loose three of your stars, that now came back with their ball thanks to the boomerang like way Hatsume upgraded them to be.
You grinned as the smoke from the ice faded and you saw all of the ninjas stuck in his ice. His range had really improved, you had never seen him cover so much terrain so solidly before.
"Dammit!" They screamed.
"You're surprised?" Todoroki held up a ball. "I thought you said you watched the sports festival."
Holy shit, it sounds like Todoroki is actually taunting someone—like intentionally.
He's so grown up.
"Don't get cocky! We came prepared."
The ninja in red threw up the nut he held and hurled it towards the two of you—quickly enlarging it as it smashed against Todoroki's ice.
The two of you needed to regroup.
His ice barricade held strong until they started throwing nails at it.
The ice shattered quickly and Todoroki was met with another enlarged object. He tried to stop it with his fire but his efforts were futile. You pulled him out of the object's range and dashed forward as soon as he was safe.
You whipped out your scarf and activated float—soaring through the air.
You threw your scarf in the direction of the ninja in red, tying together his hands before he could use the nails he had between his finger tips.
"You really think we didn't figure out a way to get past your little weapons?"
"Please, we all know this wasn't on the sports festival—I'm just serving up a little distraction."
Todoroki knew what to do. He ran into the arena and searched for something that would immobilize all of them. You had briefly suggested the idea earlier in the midst of all the chaos. You knew you wouldn't be able to stop all of them alone, you were much more specialized in hand to hand combat.
Glancing over your shoulder quickly, you saw his small flame, a signal that he had found something.
You faced the red ninja again and grinned, releasing your scarves hold on him and flipping backwards.
"Bye-bye." You said with a wink and a small wave as you deactivated your quirk.
You landed softly on your feet like always and took off running in the direction of Todoroki's signal. The sound of the ice shattering and their angered escape rang through the air and you knew you needed to be faster if you wanted to get out of there.
You found him standing before a massive green tank.
"Are they coming?" He asked unnecessarily.
You responded with a curt nod.
"You're going to want to stand back for this."
Todoroki sent a shard of ice towards it and pierced a hole in its outer surface. He motioned to the top, the bars you were hanging out on earlier.
The ninja heroes found Todoroki's trap and screamed in defeat. Your partner then sent a massive shot of fire to finish his destruction, both of you watching as the ninjas flew through the air with tattered clothes.
You held up your hand for a triumphant high five. Todoroki blinked, staring at your hand blankly.
With slumped shoulders you stared at him in disbelief. "High five?"
His brows furrowed and he lightly tapped his hand against yours. With a shrug and a definite sigh, the two of you leaped to the ground to gather enough targets.
We really did it.
**
After you both gathered enough to pass, your own targets lit up blue and told you to proceed to the reception room.
"Where's that?" You asked.
"Beats me."
The two of you searched for a while before finding the room everyone who passed was located. It was full with a lot of people, part of you had thought that maybe discussing how many had already passed was a pressure tactic.
Guess not.
"SERIOUSLY?! I freaking love Stampman!!!! He's one hot-blooded hero."
Todoroki stiffened at the sound of the boisterous voice. You followed his gaze and saw the boy from earlier, the one who's name you couldn't have guessed even if you tried. The one who wanted to go to U.A so badly but didn't.
Todoroki dragged you over to a makeshift couch, forcing you to sit as he did as well.
I wonder if he realizes how demanding he can be.
He seemed to no longer want to give that boy the time of day, but you couldn't help but notice the way he glared death in Todoroki's direction.
What the hell happened to those two?
