30. boys who never learn
Todoroki had been silent this entire time.
Something about seeing that boy, the one who's name you still couldn't recall, sent him into a state of silence and solitude.
You had been trying to figure it out, piecing together the bits of information you scavenged your mind for.
It was easy to see why one might not like Todoroki. He had an angry father and showed little to no care for those around him.
Even as your classmates began piling in, and you made room on your bench for Tsu (who was so sleepy she laid her head in your lap) you just wondered.
"So you really stayed with Todoroki the whole time?" Momo asked once you snuck away from the bench to grab refreshments.
"Yup."
"I'm surprised he allowed you to work with him for so long."
Your brows scrunched. "I didn't exactly give him a choice." You glance up at her and then over to Todoroki. Before you could say anything else, Kamanari stormed giddily towards the two of you.
"Yaomomo! Aizawa-Chan! You guys got here quick! Good to see ya."
"We all only just got here, Y/n and Todoroki got here first." Kyoka interjected.
Kamanari grinned. "Makes sense, you've always gotta show us up, huh?" He came at you with his hand ready to ruffle his hair.
You jumped and slapped him away. "I'll bite you."
"Aizawa-Chan you say that like it's a bad thing!"
"BOYfriend." Kyoka scolded him and you took that as your chance to escape.
Almost as if on cue, your eyes met Izuku's. He was clearly tired but he stood tall. His face was covered in small cuts and scuff marks trailed all down his body.
He had been standing off to the side, a bit of a haunted look on his face. You walked over to him, not willing to imagine what happened to make him look like that.
"What happened?" You asked, not bothering with the formalities of asking about the exam.
His eyes flickered to you and he seemed relieved that you knew him so well. "Kacchan."
You scoffed. "What did he do this time?" You placed your hands on your hips.
Izuku was fumbling with his fingers. "I don't know if I ever told you this, but I tried to tell Kacchan about my quirk." He whispered.
Yeah no, I don't think you mentioned that you little sh-
"He didn't believe me, of course, but after what he just said—" He took in a sharp breath. "He sounds like he believes it. That I finally made my borrowed power my own."
You placed your hand softly on his elbow. "Don't let him get into your head."
You reached up and cupped his face. "It's been yours since the day it was given to you. Just do your best out there, okay?"
Izuku smiled, leaning into your touch. "I will. Now tell me about your exam, how the heck did you get in here so fast!?"
**
When the first round was over, your whole class cheered in excitement. You had all made it past the first round of the exam and it felt like the greatest victory.
You were all expected to lose in the first round, the jinx of U.A—the prime targets.
You were so proud of everyone for making it past that.
The one hundred examinees were instructed to watch the television screen. There were explosions out on the exam course and the group was instructed to go in as bystanders on a rescue mission.
You were conflicted on this.
On the one hand, you didn't have the strongest quirk and could move around quickly, so you felt like you could perform a rescue well.
On the other, you were a stealth hero.
Are those truly interchangeable?
You noticed Izuku once that thought crossed your mind. He was still standing in front of the screen, staring at the scene before him.
You walked over to him just as you heard him say Kamino. It never occurred to you that rescue practice could effect him so heavily.
His eyes met yours and you saw the fear in his eyes.
The last time he was on a rescue mission, it was to save you and Bakugou. People died and you all faced the most gruesome villain Japan had ever known.
He relaxed as your arms wrapped around him. "You can do this, it's preparation for a moment in the future when you'll have to save someone again. Look at how good you already are at it?" You grinned.
Izuku laughed softly. "We can all do this."
"MIDORIYA!!"
You both flinched as Kamanari and Mineta came hurling your way.
They began attacking him, shouting about him and a girl taking their relationship to another level. You stood there with your arms crossed, tapping your foot as you analyzed the scene in front of you.
"You womanizing scum!"
"Yeah! You already have a girlfriend! You don't get to take all of the others just because you picked a curve-less one!"
"Did Sero tell you that? That isn't what happened at all!" Izuku shrieked.
Izuku looked back at you with panic, more worried about your reaction than the crude words Mineta tossed.
You rolled your eyes. "All boys are idiots."
"It was something to do with her quirk! She was scary!" Izuku shouted to you as the boys continued to pummel him. You decided to see what Bakugou and Todoroki were doing rather than stick around to hear any more stories.
"Hey crew cut." Todoroki approached the tall boy from Shiketsu.
You rolled your eyes, that boy would never learn social manners.
"Did I do something to offend you?"
Inasa, you had finally heard his name, turned and glowered down at Todoroki. "Oho...nahhh you'll have to forgive me. It's cuz you're Endeavor's son."
"I hate all of you. You've changed a lot since then, but those eyes...look just like Endeavor's."
That last bit struck you. You felt for Todoroki, the cryptic comparison to someone you know or don't. Much like you were to your grandma.
"See ya later."
"Ah-h sure— I mean."
You glared at your boyfriend.
"Y/n! I swear! I-"
"Death."
**
"Villains have launched a massive attack! There's wide-scale destruction throughout the city! Buildings are collapsing and people are hurt!"
You made eye contact with Tsu who shouted, "It's starting!"
"With most of the roads out of commission, rescue and relief squads are having a hard time reaching the scene."
"Another unfolding building!"
You pulled down the sleeves of your suit and pulled up your scarves. You checked each of your pockets for your stars.
"Until they arrive, it's up to you heroes to take charge and rescue civilians."
The starting signal blared and everyone took off running.
"SAVE EVERY LIFE YOU CAN!"
You followed close behind Izuku and Iida, looking for Ochaco and Tsu as you ran. The two of them wanted to specialize in rescue, so they would be the best to follow. They would make great leaders in such a dire situation.
An ear piercing cry swirled through the air.
"Look! A child!" Izuku shouted and your group ran towards the civilian in danger.
"My grandpa is trapped!" The boy cried.
"Woah! This look bad! Where is he?" Izuku asked.
"What the heck was that!? Points off for you!"
So the H.U.C is the one doing the scoring. You tried to quickly evaluate where Izuku went wrong: he didn't ask the victim if he was okay, didn't check if he could walk or breath, and he commented on the situation in a negative light.
Okay, I know how to do this.
The H.U.C continued scolding Izuku, ensuring that this lesson would be one that stuck with him and the rest of you.
You and your group watched as it clicked with Izuku, and he slapped himself on his cheeks as his own personal reminder and scolding.
Izuku replaced his worried expression with the brightest smile you had ever seen, remembering in that moment that saving people with a smile on his face was the aspect of being a hero that was most important to Izuku.
The little boy shouted where his grandfather was and you ran off with the group as Izuku took him to the evacuation center.
"Ochaco I-" you stopped running when you noticed the lack of her beside you.
She was still standing there, watching Izuku run off with the H.U.C in his arms.
Which is when you remembered...she loved him too. She admired everything he did, and judged herself based upon his passion and progress.
You jogged back over to her and grabbed her by the hand gently so you wouldn't shock her.
"I have a plan," you smiled. "But I need your help."
*
After saving the little boy's grandfather, you ran off with Momo, Ochaco, and the others and found an old man stuck in the rubble.
Your first instinct, along with Ochaco's, was to float the rocks out of the way. Momo saved you both from a point reduction by pointing out the large slab of rock held up by the rubble.
After quick discussion, Sato and Sero held up the beams to keep the structure in tact.
You and Ochaco ran towards the rubble and began floating it to the boys. It was exciting to be able to use your quirk this way, the gloves that Hatsume crafted for you were perfect for shooting out a larger beam of Float's energy.
You were able to save the old man and get him to the evacuation center in no time.
But alas, the peace was only temporary.
Like always.
The ground shook as the villains approached the center of the city.
"The villains have shown up and they're on the move! You hero candidates will suppress the villain incursion."
Ochaco gasped as the two of you sat the man down on the evacuation center.
"All while continuing the rescue operation."
"What's your move? Heroes." You heard the villain, being played by Gang Orca shout.
The fight was intense but you all miraculously made it through.
The villains began threatening the evacuation sights, causing your group to split. Half of you remained rescuing civilians and the other half defended the sites,
This was your time to shine.
You quickly slipped your stars from your pockets and flicked them towards Gang Orca's side kicks. Whenever a star missed, it came soaring back to you thanks to Hatsume's new boomerang feature.
You released your scarf, firing it towards one of the villains and using it to throw them into their partners.
When their numbers began to increase, you stood back to back with Sato.
"You ready Aizawa-San?" He asked.
"Born ready."
He crushed up a large rock and you used float to soar through the sky, spinning and lifting spare rocks into the air to throw at the villains.
When all that was left were a few, you and Sato used simple fighting techniques to ward them away.
Practicing martial arts against someone who felt truly against you was so freeing, you moved with such grace and aggression that the evacuation sight you were defending was clear.
"Let's get to the center!" Sato shouted and the two of you ran towards Gang Orca, now that he and only a few of his villains were remaining.
As soon as you both approached him, time was called and the test was over.
**
After getting a few cuts patched up, you walked back out into the main area in uniform with your classmates.
It was a relief to finally be done with all the fighting, but you couldn't shake the nervousness that came with the impending results.
"We did it." You let out an exasperated breath as your head fell to Izuku's shoulder, and your arm wrapped around his other one.
His arm wrapped around your waist to keep you steady and close to him. "Yeah." He whispered. "We rocked it."
You grinned. "You were so awesome fighting Gang Orca."
He laughed. "Let's hope that made up for my total failure at the start."
You squeezed his arm reassuringly as the two of you walked towards the center.
"It's been a long day boys and girls but now it's time for the results. We were judging and deducting points on two things, but essentially it came down to your ability to act flawlessly in a crisis scenario.
With that being said, here are the exam results in alphabetical order."
You covered your eyes as soon as he said that, knowing your name would be near the top or nowhere at all.
"Izuku Midoriya!" He shouted when he spotted his name.
You uncovered your eyes and narrowed them towards the screen.
Aizawa, Y/n.
Holy shit. I actually did it.
Lol unedited again. I'm lazy.
