7. Determination and Obstacles
The starting gate was narrow, leaving little space to get through and take off.
You were squished against Izuku as you tried to calm your mind so you could gather a plan.
You never liked tight spaces, you needed to get out of there.
"Sorry about this." You muttered.
Izuku looked over at you with a concerned expression. You summoned a portion of your quirk into your legs and levitated just enough to grasp Izuku's head and push yourself up.
You used your quirk to enhance your speed, just a bit, so you could float ahead of the group.
"Just as we announced our first front runner, Y/n Aizawa gets out of the pack and dashes right for him!" Mic announced before turning to your father. "Are you ready for all this commentary Aizawa?"
Mic knew he hated it, but he was watching you so intently that he knew that he wouldn't mind commenting on the event from time to time—even though he said he wouldn't.
"I ain't letting you get away that easily half-n-half!" Bakugou screamed as he blasted through the air.
You had yet to return to the ground, the burst of air following Bakugou's quirk made for a shaky landing.
You felt uncomfortable without the weight of your weapons at your hips and around your neck.
You needed to get passed the ice before you returned to the ground, so staying in air was your best choice.
You released yourself back to the ground as you saw the first obstacle.
"Every obstacle course needs that killer first obstacle, and we're starting with the zero pointers from the entrance exam!"
You allowed yourself a second to watch closely as Todoroki froze the bottom of the robot, muttering to himself.
You noticed the dangerous angle that he froze them at. You took that information, jumped, and flipped back into the sky so you would have enough force to send you up and over the robots.
Once you landed successfully, you chased after your classmate.
You hated running with everything you were, but you were glad your father had made you run so intensely the month leading up to the festival.
It was perfect training to help you catch your new rival.
A realization hit you.
Your father knew this was coming which is why he made you run so often.
That sneaky bastard.
As you made it to the fall zone you started to worry as Todoroki slid across it with ease.
You pinpointed each large surface and mapped out a path you could take to 'recharge' your air movement.
You stepped onto the first large path, watching as some of your competitors dared the ropes. You gulped as you jumped, activating your quirk and landing on the first tall, flat rock ahead of you.
"That was easier than I thought." You whispered to yourself. Being able to jump and then float made your quirk usage much easier.
You kept pushing forward.
Bakugou and Todoroki were constant in your line of sight—it made you run faster.
You had to catch them.
You approached the land mines and you sighed in relief. "I won't have to use my quirk as much here." You noticed instantly that you could see each layout of the mines within the ground.
With your gymnastics skills and flexibility, it would be easy to move through this.
You notice the front was covered with them, there was hardly any space.
You began with simple cartwheels. With this you could keep one foot off the ground at all times and your hands were much smaller and easier to control in tight spaces.
You quickly made it to the center of the field and switched to doing back-walkovers, just to show off a bit.
You knew running would be quicker, but the tricks were faster than walking and dodging.
They were flashier too.
"Woah Aizawa, your kid sure has some moves. She's chasing down Todoroki and Bakugou with ease!"
Once the ground became clearer you sprinted towards the two front runners. Bakugou had been screaming and the two were grappling for first.
You almost stopped when you heard a gigantic explosion from behind you.
Flying over your heads was Izuku Midoriya on a piece of the robot, taking first place.
You channeled the strange part of your quirk to your legs and dashed forward, trying to catch up with the three boys. You used Todoroki's path of ice to slide faster, eventually in the middle of the two of them as Deku sent off another explosion.
"Dammit! Not you too eyebags!" Bakugou screamed as he turned to smack you away.
You ducked under their arms and chased after Midoriya.
"The one who made it back to the stadium first, is none other than Izuku Midoriya! What a stunning finish that kid had!"
You heard their voices loud and clear as the light became brighter.
You passed through only seconds after him, Bakugou and Todoroki followed scarily close behind.
You were proud of your friend but all you could do was turn towards Todoroki. "You should be worried, Todoroki." Was all you said before walking forward once more with a scary serious expression written on your face.
Your father watched you.
He was prouder of you then he thought he could be. Your quirk wasn't exactly easy to use in a course like that without your support items. You used your wits to do it and he was so so proud.
"Deku! That was so awesome!" Uraraka approached the boy, joining the two of you. You noticed Iida was following right behind her, scolding himself for losing a race of all things.
"Oh it was nothing..." He covered his face.
You rolled your eyes at his nervous tendencies.
"First and second place! I knew you guys were awesome! Man I'm so jealous." She grinned as she jumped up and hugged you.
"Hey! You're sweaty!" You grimaced as you tried to pry her off you but she wouldn't budge.
You were finally able to convince her to stop clinging to you and you stayed close behind Midoriya so she wouldn't try and manhandle you again.
You walked over to the stage once more as Midnight announced the next competition.
"The top forty-two from the qualifying round will move on! Our next event will be a calvary battle." Midnight then went to explain the process and the dependence on teammates.
Once she mentioned the headbands, you really started to tune in.
Izuku's face when she said that he would be worth ten million points...it was priceless.
"You've got fifteen minutes! Time to form your teams."
The first thing you noticed was Bakugou being swarmed with a bunch of people begging to be on his team. You couldn't help but snort, yeah he was strong but he was more flashy than anything.
"Aizawa-San!"
The voice of your classmate was loud enough to turn your head along with curious Izuku's.
"Kirishima." You nodded your head in acknowledgement as he approached.
"Team up with me! We worked well together in class so I'm sure we could again here. We could even go get Bakugou."
You grimaced at the mention of his name. "I'll pass." You crossed your arms and looked away with your nose held high.
"Please! We could win this." You could see his bright smile out of the corner of your eye, and he was standing so close to your face that it made you nervous.
You pushed him away gently with your hand and let out a sigh. "Fine." You grumbled, begrudgingly allowing him to drag you towards Bakugou.
Midoriya watched every step you took as you left the little area the two of you had claimed. "I guess that's a no on Aizawa-San then." His sigh was accompanied by a deep frown.
"Both of you get the fuck away from me."
"I didn't realize you missed me so much Bakugou-San." You pouted mockingly at him.
"Oh come on Bakubro! We would make good teammates! I've already thought this through. I know you wanna be the rider so your front horse has to be someone who can take your explosions and remain unafraid!" He pointed towards his chest. "And Aizawa-San is incredibly talented!"
"I could also float the points off everyone's heads." You mentioned with a nonchalant shrug.
Bakugou looked you over as he weighed his options. You had noticed that he was analyzing you a lot lately. You couldn't tell if you were more flattered or pissed off.
"Fine." His voice was a grumble. "But only because I can use you this time!" You knew he also liked that your point numbers would be high, being that yours was second place and his was third.
"I really don't care either way." You rolled your eyes and waited patiently for the fifteen minutes to be over.
**
You wouldn't say you particularly liked this event.
You quickly realized you would have rather been a rider, he was way heavier than he looked and it was incredibly irritating.
He was hell bent on chasing down Midoriya. You personally believed you should save the ten million points for last, but Bakugou was overly hard headed.
"Getting pretty full of yourself? Huh? You bastard!" Before you knew it Bakugou was in the air, aiming for Midoriya, leaving your teammates baffled and you even more annoyed.
"That moron."
Sero caught the boy and you all continued running.
"Now wait just a second!" You heard Mic announce and you felt a harsh gust of wind rush past you. "Besides Midoriya, class A isn't looking to hot. What happened to Bakugou?"
His words sent you into a frenzy.
"It's too easy really, Class A."
Your eyes met the culprit. You hadn't seen him before, he was smug and blonde—reminding you a lot of the boy sitting on top of you all.
"Give that back! I'll freaking kill you!" Bakugou literally shrieked.
You were so over this.
You just wanted to take a nap.
The boy was taunting your team relentlessly. Insulting the intelligence of your class and antagonizing Bakugou—sending him into a rage you had yet to witness.
"Kirishima...Eye-bags—plan changed." He was absolutely fuming. He must've addressed you due to the fact your side was lacking with how sleepy you were getting. "Before we go for Deku, I've gotta murder every last one of them."
You sighed as you allowed him to order you all around, you were just glad you didn't have to go after Midoriya. It truly was such a hassle.
"Calm down Bakugou! We will never catch back up if you act like this!" Kirishima urged.
You just shook your head, finding no use in arguing with the boy.
"Keep moving Kirishima...I'm cool as ice."
You all charged after the cocky boy's group.
You felt goosebumps crawl up your skin as you felt the backlash of an explosion.
One that wasn't set off by Bakugou.
"That's a neat quirk you've got there!" The blonde was grinning like an idiot.
The two riders went back and forth. During that time you tried to make your presence less noticeable.
You took that time to find the best possible way to begin to float the points off the blonde's head without alerting him—or pissing off Bakugou.
"Just a damn copy cat."
As those words left his lips you made subtle eye contact with Bakugou and activated your quirk.
"What the hell-"
So he hadn't noticed you.
Perfect.
Redeeming himself, Bakugou sent an explosion hurdling towards the blonde's face before snatching back the points.
"Alright!" You all cheered.
"That was some good teamwork you guys!" Kirishima was beaming, clearly giving himself credit for your brief truce with Bakugou.
Bakugou grumbled like normal as he retied the points, one to his head and another around his neck.
"Now let's go after that damn nerd."
**
Bakugou was absolutely wild.
The boy was hell bent on being first place.
He wanted no one to be able to deny his pure strength and victory over everyone.
The clock was ticking and Mic was sure to let everyone know how quickly time was running out.
Todoroki and his teammates tried their hardest to defend the ten million points they had stolen as they partook in a heated battle with Midoriya.
You wouldn't lie, you were almost glad that Todoroki had managed to snag the points—you were much more eager to fight him than Midoriya.
The clock was ticking.
As your group got closer to the fight Bakugou sprung from his position without consulting the rest of you, and barreled towards his rivals.
He was hellbent.

Bakugou slammed face first into the ground.
Mic began to announce the teams that placed. You sighed in relief as he announced your team, but everyone was still disappointed that Bakugou hadn't managed to snag the ten million points.
Though, no one was more upset than him.
You eyed Todoroki, refusing to break the contact when his icy eyes met your own.
You would meet him in the second round and settle it all.
You promised him that through your intense glare.
"In fourth place, team Midoriya!" You glanced up in surprise.
Your eyes found the boy who was sobbing waterfalls on the ground, and you couldn't help but smile.
He always made you smile.
That was absolutely terrifying.
