Chapter 14. One hell of a first date
"The kitchen, there's a door in the kitchen that leads to the stairwell." Stiles said quickly as he grabbed my hand and started to make his way towards the kitchen.
"That only goes up!" Scott shouted.
"Up is better than here," I retorted as Stiles pushed the door open. And for like the fifth time that night we began to run for our lives from the alpha. I guess I was in a lot better shape than Lydia and Allison, because I was running a hell of a lot faster than they were. Jackson, Scott, and Stiles were pretty much leading us where it was we were going to hide.
When we got to the next floor, Lydia opened a classroom door and we all piled in quickly. Scott grabbed a stool from one of the lab tables and placed it underneath the doorknob. Okay, so we're in a chemistry classroom- no we're in Harris' classroom.
"Oh I am so not dying in Harris' classroom." I groaned as I saw his stupid lesson plan for the next chapter already scrawled on the board.
"Shhh." Scott hissed, I stuck my tongue out at him and tightened my grip on Stiles' hand. I still can't believe he punched Jackson like that because he grabbed me. I so did not pin Stiles as the aggressive type...
The alpha then crept by the door, stomping and growling. These three are freaking idiots if they really believe that's Derek out there. Humans don't growl like a dog, and stomp on all fours. Scott sighed once the alpha was away from the door, "Jackson how many people can fit in your car?"
"Five, if someone can squeeze in the back." Jackson answered quickly.
Allison shot him a bewildered look, "Five? I barely fit in the backseat."
"It doesn't matter, there's no way of getting out of here without drawing attention." Stiles muttered as he rubbed at the back of his neck anxiously.
"What about this? This door leads to the roof? We can get up there and climb down the fire escape to the parking lot?" Scott suggested as he pulled Stiles over towards the door with him. I stayed where I had originally be standing by the chemical cabinets, Jackson and Lydia were standing right beside me.
Scott and Stiles were having a hushed conversation, I really didn't want to hear it. Unless they had somehow found a way out of the school without getting ripped apart by the crazy wolf who wants my brother to join his weird little boy scout pack. Which I doubt they did.
"I'm gonna go get the key," Scott said to us as he walked away from Stiles.
My eyes widened, "Are you kidding me? That's a terrible idea, Scott!"
"Yeah well it's our only option right now," Scott replied.
Allison looked up at him, "You can't go out there un-armed."
My brother, being the genius he is, grabbed a stupid little flimsy wooden stick with a small white hand on it from the board. "Are you kidding me?" I dead-panned.
"What? It's better than nothing. You got any other ideas?" He fired back defensively.
Lydia nodded her head in the direction of the chemical cabinet behind me, "Yeah."
Stiles sighed, "What do you want to do throw acid on him?"
"No, like a fire bomb. In there is everything you need to make a self igniting Molotov Cocktail." Lydia replied sassily, narrowing her green eyes at my boyfriend in annoyance. I knew Lydia was smart, but I didn't know she as capable of making freaking fire bombs...
Stiles rose an eyebrow, "Self igniting...?"
"Molotov Cocktail," She snapped.
I nodded in agreement, "Alright, that could work. But- we don't have a key for that either." I then gestured to the lock on the cabinet. Jackson rolled his eyes and slammed his elbow into the glass, shattering it into tiny pieces.
"Oh, that works too..." I mumbled.
✢
After Lydia mixed her little self-igniting Molotov Cocktail, Scott and Allison had an exchange about lying and crap before that ended in an intense kiss and Scott left the room with his handy dandy little firebomb. The only reason I'm semi-calm right now is because if the alpha wants Scott to join his pack, it's not going to kill him.
So after Jackson locked the door- that left us to all sit in the room while we waited for Scott to return or for the police to show up. Currently, I am sitting on the floor with my back pressed to the wall. My head hurts and my stomach is all over the place right now because I'm so stressed out. I don't want to die here tonight. I don't want Scott to die here tonight. I don't want anything else bad to happen tonight. But I know that no matter how badly I want all of that stuff, bad things are going to happen anyway.
Stiles slid down the wall next to me, gently placing his hand on my knee and smiling at me, that adoring smiling that goes farther up the left side of his face and his eyes crinkle up slightly. That smile that sends my heart soaring. His smile. "Hey, you okay?" He asked me softly.
I sighed as I rested my head on his shoulder, he leaned his own head against mine and I grabbed his hand- lacing our fingers together. "I am now," I mumbled quietly. Allison was sitting on the lab bench closest to the door, watching it intently. And Lydia and Jackson were standing by the desk with all of the chemicals still.
"You know, this isn't really how I pictured our first date at all." I said with a small laugh, this was an absolute disaster date. And I have Scott to thank for it, all because of his genius idea to try and call the alpha through the school's intercom system.
Stiles let out a sigh, "Me either... but it will definitely be a story to tell one day, that's for sure."
Lydia was examining the chemicals on the table intently, I noticed how she kept biting her lip and glancing at Jackson and then to a bottle on the table. What's wrong? Did she not mix the correct chemical in or something? "Jackson you gave me the sulfuric acid, right? It has to be sulfuric acid, if its not then it won't ignite." She finally asked the question that she had been thinking about for the past few minutes.
"I gave you exactly what you asked for, didn't I?" He snapped in annoyance, for some reason Jackson was all up on Allison- holding her hand and trying to 'console' her. I swear to god if he thinks he can just try to charm Allison away from my brother I will castrate him and feed his testicles to him through a freaking straw.
"Yeah, yeah I'm sure you did..." Lydia mumbled.
A loud growl then echoed around the school and my eyes widened, on that's not good at all. Stiles and I both stood up quickly as Lydia held her ears, Jackson then grabbed at the back of his neck and started to yell and groan in pain.
"Agh! Oh! Ow!"
He fell to his knees right in front of where I was standing, and I saw these weird little cuts on the back of his neck. What the hell is that? Why is screaming? The growl stopped, but Jackson was still going. I glanced at Lydia and she looked horrified.
About two seconds after he stood up and shook Lydia and Allison off of him, "Seriously, I'm fine. I'm okay."
"That didn't sound okay at all." Allison argued, why does she care so much? I mean yeah it was really weird, but if he says he's fine then that means he's fine. Don't question him further or you'll just piss him off, and he is already being a big enough dick as it is.
"What's on the back of your neck? Stiles asked as he went to point to the three holes lining the back of his neck, but Jackson smacked his hand away.
He huffed in annoyance, "I said I'm fine."
"Those have been there for days and he won't tell me what happened," Lydia answered Stiles' question- vaguely, but at least she supplied an answer of sorts.
Jackson narrowed his eyes at her, "As if you actually care!" He hissed hatefully. Why is he being so rude to her? That's his girlfriend and he is treating her like absolute shit tonight, it's disgusting.
"Quit being so rude to her, Jackson." I snapped an annoyance, Lydia may not be my favorite person on the planet but she doesn't need to be treated like that for no reason at all. Yes, she is mean to people sometimes- but she is just answered Stiles' question.
"Alright can we not argue for like a half second, please?" Stiles cut in as he tugged me closer to his side, narrowing his eyes at Jackson. It looked like he was daring him to say something- anything, and then if he did he would punch him again for it.
Allison sighed, "Where is Scott he should be back by now."
My mind was reeling where Scott could possibly be, and then something clicked in the door. Allison lunged at the door, pushing the stool to the side and hitting her fist on the wood, "Scott!"
"Where is he going?" Lydia asked in a panic.
I didn't like this situation, he just locked us in from the outside. How are we supposed to get out? Why would he do that? If this is his way of trying to protect us from the alpha, it's yet another terrible idea of his. Allison continued to bang on the door, shouting Scott's name. It was honestly only freaking everyone out, she looked deranged.
"Stop! Stop! Do you hear that?" Lydia shrieked as she ran towards the windows. The faint sound of police sirens filled the room and I sighed in relief. Oh thank god. We're safe.
✢
"And you're sure it was Derek Hale?" Sheriff Stilinski asked as he led Stiles, Scott, and myself out of the building. He had brought several squad cars with him, and I think the alpha knew it was a smarter decision to just leave rather than to kill everyone that was here. Thank god.
"Yes," Scott sighed.
Stiles nodded, "I saw him too."
"Yeah, me too." I added for good measure. I didn't like the fact that we were throwing Derek under the bus like this, especially since he could possibly be dead and now he was going to be remembered as a murderer. Which sucks because he didn't even kill any of the people that Scott is practically framing him for.
"What about the janitor?" Scott pressed, apparently he saw the janitor under the bleachers dead. Like, he was suspended in the air under the bleachers. How the alpha managed to pull that off, I have no idea.
Sheriff Stilinski sighed, "We're still looking."
"Did you check under the bleachers? Under them?" Scott was getting agitated at this point, and I don't really blame him. Everything is just a huge ball of confusion right now and no one really knows what is going on.
"Yeah, Scott, we looked. We pulled them out, just like you asked and there's nothing." The Sheriff replied as waved his hand in the air- that must be where Stiles gets the whole talks with his hands thing...
Scott groaned, "I'm not making this up."
"I know, I believe you, I do." He reassured my brother as we stopped at the bottom of the steps. My head was still pounding and the flashing lights on the cars and the loud sirens still blaring are not helping. I need to take an Advil or two when I get home.
Scott sighed, "No you don't! You have this look like you feel bad for me. Like you wanna believe me, but I know you don't."
Sheriff Stilinski sighed, "Look, we're gonna search this whole school. We're gonna find him, okay? I promise." And then some other cop called the Sheriff to the other side of the parking lot, he ordered us all to stay put so I leaned into Stiles and let out a sigh of relief.
"Well, we survived, dude. You know? We out lasted the alpha? That's still good, right? Being alive?" Stiles was trying to light my brother's mood, because he looked pissed off and depressed at the same time. Never a good mix, especially on Scott.
Scott leaned in closer with a grim expression on his face, "When we were in the Chemistry room, it walked right by us. You don't think it heard us? You don't think it knew we were in there?"
I sighed, "Well they why are we still alive? If it knew where we were, why didn't it just kill us?" I asked in exasperation. The alpha seems to be worse than a hormonal teenage girl when it comes to committing to a decision.
"It wants me in it's pack... but first, I think I have to get rid of my old pack.." Scott said awkwardly, his eyes bouncing from me to Stiles repeatedly.
Stiles blinked a few times, "What do you mean? What old pack?"
"Allison. Jackson, Lydia. You two." Scott mumbled, oh my god. What does that mean though, getting rid of us? Like, just drop us and go and hang out with the alpha after school instead of us?
Stiles finally seemed to understand everything because his grip on my waist tightened immensely, "The alpha doesn't want to kill us..."
"It wants me to do it," Scott finished as he turned to look away from us. Oh. Well, that certainly would be getting rid of his old pack.
My brother sighed, "And that's not even the worst part..."
"How in holy hell is that not the worst part Scott?" I asked in astonishment, I honestly can't think of anything that could be worse than Scott killing me. How could this situation get any more messed up?
Scott turned back around quickly, "Because when he made me shift... I wanted to do it. I wanted to kill you. All of you."
My heart sank as Scott looked to the ground, he wanted to kill us. He actually wanted to kill us... is that why he locked us in the classroom? To protect us from himself? This whole alpha having control over him thing is a lot more serious than I thought. I then glanced over my shoulder and saw Deaton sitting in one of the ambulances, "Guys... look."
Stiles and Scott both looked up and when they saw Deaton they headed straight for him, leaving me with the option to follow. By the time I got over there though, Sheriff Stilinski was ushering them away from the ambulance. Scott then saw Allison and he ran after her, leaving Stiles and I alone.
I glanced at him and smiled faintly, "You know... you were kind of incredible in there."
"How? How was I incredible in there?" He asked with a laugh as his hands went to either side of my waist. I gripped the two sides of his jacket and tugged him a bit closer, his body was radiating heat and his jacket and plaid shirt beneath it were really soft.
"You just were, I mean- you punched Jackson, and then you came up with the idea to use the stairs in the kitchen... you just were amazing. And even though it was a crazy date, I'm glad I was on it with you." I replied with a small smile.
He grinned as he started to lean his face closer towards mine, "Normally I wouldn't kiss on the first date, but I think this one time can be the exception..." He mumbled as his lips brushed against mine teasingly. Who would of thought Stiles Stilinski would be the one to give me the teasing.
"Kiss me or I'm walking away," I threatened. He chuckled and then pressed his lips to mine fully, his hands gripping my waist tighter and pulled me as close to him as I could possibly get. That stampede was back, running through my stomach. And my heart was thumping wildly against my rib cage. It felt like my veins were pumping hot lava throughout my body, and every possible inch of me was on fire- but in a good way. In a wonderfully, perfect way.
He pulled back and pressed his forehead against mine, "Perfect way to end the evening."
"Totally."
