Chapter 39. Veggie is healthier,
The next morning when I woke up, to say I had a hangover would be an understatement. I felt like complete and utter crap, and the only thing that was keeping me from going and getting more to drink so I could ignore this pain too, was the small little note on my nightstand, and it was from Stiles...
Hey Kasey, if you're reading this that means that I haven't been able to make it back to your house yet... sorry about that, things happen. Anyway- you probably feel terrible and so I left some Advil and a glass of water here for you, Scott had some things to take care of regarding the Jackson situation, so he isn't home either. Text me or call me or whatever when you wake up, I want to make sure you're okay.. okay well talk to you soon, I guess.
I knew it was from him due to the scribbled out handwriting, and plus he has a very distinct way that he writes his a's that I haven't seen anyone else do, which also was another thing that set off the recognition.
Anyway, I took the Advil and texted him like he had asked me to. He got to my house about twenty minutes later and we just spent the afternoon watching reruns of old television shows. That was until he informed me that we now had to return back to the world and focus on everything that is happening around us, meaning we had to leave my house. Which I didn't want to do, but hey- apparently I don't get a say in the matter.
Which leads us to right now, and the reason why I am sitting beside Stiles in front of his dad's desk at the Police Station- having dinner with the both of them. Stiles had informed me earlier that he wasn't letting me out of his sight for a few days, which I didn't mind- he is lovely company. Sheriff Stilinski was a bit put off at the fact that I was here at first, but something clicked in his mind the second that Stiles looked at me when we sat down, and he couldn't stop smiling... so I guess that's a good thing.
"Here ya go," Stiles said as he fished his dad's food out of the bag from the little Veggie Hut down the street. I have no idea why Stiles wanted to get dinner from there, but he had his mind set on it so I didn't argue.
His dad peeled back the wrapper from the burger and took a huge bite out of it, as soon as his taste buds picked up on the fact that it wasn't his usual greasy and sloppy burger, disgust washed over his face, and he pulled the sandwich back in repulsion. "Oh what the hell is this?" He asked through a mouthful of food.
"Veggie burger." Stiles sang as he handed me my salad, I had ordered the same thing he did- that way the order wasn't too complicated. I can't be the only one who hates listening to Stiles ramble to someone at the drive-thru because he loses track of the order in a mere four seconds.
Sheriff Stilinski sighed, "Stiles, I asked for a hamburger."
I smiled, "Well on the bright side Veggie is healthier."
"We're being healthy." My boyfriend nodded as he held his little salad up to show his dad that he too had gotten a healthy alternative. Although I'm willing to bet money he would trade that salad for a burger and side of his beloved curly fries in half a second flat.
His dad sighed and opened what would normally be his fries, to reveal celery sticks and carrots, "Oh, hell, why are you two trying to ruin my life?" He groaned as he rolled his eyes at the 'fries'.
"I'm trying to extend your life, okay? Could you just eat it? Please? And tell us what you found," Stiles replied as he took a sip of his drink through his straw.
He is trying to prolong his father's life by making him eat Veggie Hut for dinner? That doesn't make a lick of sense to me. I've known Stiles and his father pretty much my entire life, but not once in all of that time have I ever seen Stiles force his dad to eat something healthier so he will live longer. I guess all of the death happening in Beacon Hills lately is having a bigger affect on Stiles than he was letting people believe...
Sheriff Stilinski shook his head from side to side, "No, I'm not sharing confidential police work with two teenager's."
My eyes glanced at the large crime scene board behind him, "Isn't that it up there on the board?" I questioned.
Stiles started to move around in his seat so he could start to see the crucial pieces of evidence he had missed when he walked into the office, I could see pictures of the victims and of the crime scenes. There were random red arrows pointing to several different things, and even some post-it notes scattered throughout the board. It seems like all of the murders obviously had some things in common.
"No. Don't look at that," Sheriff Stilinski replied quickly as he tried to move in the same pattern as Stiles so his son couldn't see the evidence.
Stiles shrunk back in his seat but kept his eyes on the board, "A'ight."
"Avert your eyes." He said to the both of us as our eyes continued to scan the entire board, trying to make sense of the jumbled up mess in front of us.
I nodded, "Okay."
"Just- It's just- I see arrows pointing at pictures." Stiles replied as he started to move about in his seat again as he tried to see around his father.
Sheriff Stilinski sighed, "Fine. Okay, okay. I found something."
My eyes widened as I sat up straighter in my seat, Stiles stopped flitting about and glanced at his dad in pure bewilderment, he looked so cute with his hazel eyes all bugged out and his bottom lip captured between his teeth. How he can go from a nerdy weirdo to an attractive socialite never ceases to amaze me.
"The Mechanic and the couple who were murdered. They all had something in common," Sheriff Stilinski began as he leaned forward on his desk a bit.
I rose an eyebrow, "All three of them?"
"Yeah. You know what I always say. One's an accident. Two's a coincidence," He began to count on his fingers but Stiles finished the statement for him, "Three's a pattern."
His dad nodded, "The Mechanic, the husband, the wife- all the same age. All 24."
"Wait a minute, but what about Mr. Lahey? I mean Issac's dad isn't anywhere near 24." Stiles stated in confusion, I had totally forgotten about Isaac's dad being possibly linked to all of this...
Sheriff Stilinski nodded, "What made me think either, "A" Lahey's murder wasn't connected, or "B" The ages were a coincidence. Until I found this, which would be ''C''... did you know that Isaac had an older brother named Cameron?''
He then handed Stiles a maroon colored folder across the desk, I scooted closer in my chair so I could peer over into the folder and see what was inside. It appeared to be a discharge paper of some sort.. It had DIED IN COMBAT stamped across the entire thing in red ink.
"Died in combat?" I questioned as I glanced up to look at Mr. Stilinski.
He nodded once again, "But if he were alive today- take one guess as to how old he would be."
"I'm gonna go with 24..." I mumbled sarcastically, as I ran my hands over my face. Why couldn't Jackson just be killing random people? I thought that the Kanima only killed murderer's though... no wait, I remember someone saying that if the bond is strong enough he'll kill whoever his 'master' wants him to. Talk about being someone's bitch.
Stiles set the folder back on the table and then stood up, making his way behind the desk to get a closer look at the board. Sheriff Stilinski did the same, whereas I opted to just sit in the comfy chair and start to eat my salad, I was starving and plus it's not like I'll be much help anyway.
"Now what if same age means same class... I mean, did you think of that?" Stiles asked as he glanced at his dad.
He nodded, "Yeah, yeah.... we'll I would've. I mean, I-look, I just got Lahey's file two hours ago."
"Two hours? Dad, people could be dying!" Stiles stated incredulously as he waved his arm around. I bit down on a piece of lettuce as I watched their little argument take place.
"Yeah, I'm aware of that. Thank you." Sheriff Stilinski snapped as he glared at the board in front of him.
I swallowed my food and decided to speak up, "If you want to ya know... check up on that same class theory, check a yearbook, maybe? If they are all 24 that would mean they were the class of.... 2006 or 2007, one of the two- my mental math is a bit sketchy."
Stiles turned around and grinned at me, "Genius."
"Okay this is it, class of 2006." I read off as I grabbed the little blue folder that was on the desk, Mr. Stilinski had called someone to bring in transcripts and a yearbook from 2006. And once it got here I was instructed by my lovely boyfriend to 'get up off my pretty little ass and help him find the blue folder'. Which is what I just did.
He snatched the folder out of my hand and flipped it open, his eyes scanning over the words quickly- "It says right here that they all went to Beacon Hills High School."
"Including Isaac's brother," Sheriff Stilinski added as he checked another folder on the desk.
I nodded slowly, "Okay- but so what if they all knew each other... I mean, two of them were married so maybe they just all hung out together."
"Well they could've had the same classes together. They could've-" He began to reply to me as he flipped through some more papers, but he abruptly stopped talking as he glanced at something in the file.
Stiles leaned forward a bit, "What?"
"Same teacher." He finished as he pulled the paper out and set it in front of us.
I let out a sigh, "Harris."
"They were all in his class?" Stiles asked his father slowly, obviously a bit perturbed at the fact that our chemistry teacher from hell was somehow linked in all of this. I'm not surprised, I always knew he was evil.
He nodded, "All four. And I don't know how exactly Mr. Lahey fits in, but this- kids this is definitely a pattern. Alright give me the 2006 year book, these names- we need faces."
I started to search for the year book on the table, I had just been holding it a second ago- ah there it is, I quickly snatched it up and handed it to Stiles, "Which ones?"
"Everyone in that chemistry class, if the killer is not done killing..." He began as he picked up the phone to call someone for more information or a warning or something.
I let out a sigh, "Then one of them are next..."
✢
"There's got to be some other way to get tickets, right?" Scott asked me as we were pulling into the school parking lot- Stiles driving his jeep, and myself sitting in the back as usual.
I let out a sigh, "I don't know... I guess I can give you mine, since Matt did say he was buying me one."
"Kasey, we all have to get in to that Rave. The fact that you already have a ticket is awesome," My brother replied, the jeep jerked as Stiles pulled into his parking spot and as soon as I glanced out the window I realized why. Matt was sitting on the ground chaining his bike up, well this was about to get awkward...
We climbed out of the jeep, and I made sure to get out on Scott's side to try and avoid being seen by Matt- I didn't really want to be approached my him right now. Stiles and Scott climbed out quickly as well, "It's a secret show, the only way in is a secret." Stiles commented as he got up on the sidewalk.
"Hey! Do either of you know why no one's getting suspended after what happened the other day at school?" Matt asked as he walked up to us, damn.
Stiles' entire body went rigid as he clenched his jaw, "Just forget about it. Nobody got hurt."
Matt gave my boyfriend a bemused look, "I-I had a concussion."
"Well nobody got seriously hurt," My boyfriend replied sarcastically.
"I was in the E.R. for six hours." Matt pointed out as he shook his head from side to side, looking beyond shocked that Stiles wasn't trying to console him for being in the E.R. or having a concussion...
Stiles let out a sigh, "Hey, you wanna know the truth Matt? Your little bump on the head is about this high-" he bent down as he held his hand nearly an inch off of the sidewalk, "on our list of problems right now!" The tone in his voice was hostile, and Scott was glancing at him oddly. He took a deep breath and stood up again, blinking a few times to settle back down.
"Are you okay?" I asked Matt- I could feel Stiles' glare burning holes in the side of my head, but I was curious if he was alright.
Matt smiled at me, "Yeah, I am now."
"That's good," I responded honestly.
He then shifted his attention to my brother, "I saw you couldn't get any tickets last night... I managed to find two online for Kasey and I, you should keep trying. It looks like everyone is going to be there."
His eyes were then back on me as he smiled brightly, "I'll see you later?"
"Um, yeah. Sure." I replied awkwardly, he smiled again and then walked off. Leaving me very confused, Stiles fuming, and my brother with trying to find ways to get him and Stiles tickets to the Rave tonight.
My boyfriend let out an annoyed groan, "I don't like him."
"Anyway, back on to the subject of the Rave- Scott, are you sure you want to do this?" I asked as I tried to prevent Stiles from blowing up and ranting about his amount of hatred boiling beneath him.
Scott sighed, "Last time, whoever's controlling Jackson had to kill somebody because he didn't finish the job, so what do you think he's going to do this time?"
"Be there to make sure the job gets done," Stiles muttered as he stomped off.
I glanced at my brother, "This whole Matt thing is really getting to him... isn't it?"
He chuckled, "Oh you have no idea."
✢
I had been sitting in Geometry class for all of ten minutes before Stiles started blowing my phone up with text messages. All telling me to meet him outside because he needed to talk to me about something of importance. So, after nagging my ass of a teacher for five minutes I had managed to snag the pass and sneak out to the back of the school by the bus garage where Stiles had instructed me to go.
He was out here already, pacing around as he mumbled things to himself. I couldn't really understand him, but something tells me that I probably don't want to... so I just cleared my throat to let him know that I had arrived. His head snapped up in my direction and when he saw it was me he quickly made his way over.
"Okay, I've been thinking... like really thinking, and do you remember how we thought that Matt was the one controlling Jackson?" He asked me, his voice coming out jumbled from how quickly he was speaking.
I rose an eyebrow, "I remember you thinking that."
He groaned, "Alright, I thought that. Well what if I'm right? Like, as much as I hate saying this- and believe me I freaking hate it, maybe you going out with him tonight could actually help us."
"So what you're saying is you want me to go out with Matt tonight?" I asked him slowly, making sure that I had understood what he said correctly.
He nodded, "That's what I'm saying."
"Okay, yeah. If you think it can help, I'll do it." I shrugged, honestly Matt was a weirdo and a little persistent- but he has never actually been rude to me, in fact he's only ever been super polite to me. And he obviously had to work really hard to get the tickets for us tonight, so I should go with him.
Stiles sighed, "Just... just don't... do things with him."
"What do you mean?" I questioned.
He blinked rapidly as he gave me a bewildered look, "I mean like, kissing him, or- or hugging him. I don't know, anything of that nature, don't do it."
"What kind of date would I be if I didn't kiss him?" I teased as I watched his skin flare up bright red, he looked completely peeved at the fact that I'm even joking about kissing Matt. I wouldn't, do that. Ever. Not just because it's Matt- but because I don't want to kiss anyone but Stiles.
"Kasey," His voice cracked and all of a sudden the entire situation didn't seem funny to me anymore. He cleared his throat and rubbed at the back of his neck awkwardly, he obviously didn't intend to sound so heartbroken just then. It made my chest burn just to hear him sound like that.
I took a step towards him and wrapped my arms around the base of his neck securely, his eyes hesitantly met mine and a small blush crept across the tops of his cheeks. I could see him swallowing nervously several times as he started to get a bit flustered, I honestly love having this sort of affect on him. I've never made a boy this nervous before, like- ever. I then stood up on my tip-toes and pressed my lips to his softly- his eyes fluttered shut and his hands rested on my waist gently. As soon as his lips met mine, sparks were lit beneath my skin and they started to fizzle all throughout my body. The sensations that come with kissing him are always so euphoric, it's insane really.
With a sigh I pulled back and his eyes popped open quickly, "Did I-I do something wrong? Why'd you st-stop?" He stammered as he blinked quickly, trying to collect his thoughts and speak clearly.
"Because if I didn't stop myself then, I probably wouldn't have stopped at all." I chuckled as I sent him a flirty wink.
He groaned, "Would that be such a bad thing? You always leave me hanging like this."
I let out a laugh as I pressed my head against his chest and closed my eyes, reveling in the fact that I have the most amazing boyfriend on the face of the planet. It's so crazy to think that I've gone practically my entire life not even thinking about dating Stiles- yet he turns out to be the boy I'm head over heels in love with. Life's funny like that, I suppose.
______________________________________________________________________
Hey everyone! How are all of you? So, this update has been long over due- and for that I apologize. School has just been crazy, and I already know that this year is going to be an absolute headache and a half. I'm working on the yearbook and the newspaper this year, and plus I'm a senior, I have to get a job, go to driving school, and all of that wonderfully fun stuff. Since I have hardly any downtime now, I don't think I'll be doing double updates as often, maybe on a weekend I can swing it- but if I can get a chapter written at all during the five week days, I'll post the single chapter.
Anyway, be sure to fan, vote, and comment! I love it more than anything when you do! xx
