darrel curtis ➼ just a kid
Request: I'm new to the gang, having being friends with Two-Bit and I've been hanging out at the Curtis house for a couple of weeks now, and on a Saturday the boys decide to go bum around the town while me and Darry stay at home. (It's a lot more descriptive, but it's very long so I'm cutting it short.)
Name: Dani
Warning(s): Language
Word Count: 1.5K
A/N: I just wanted to apologize for the long wait on this request. I also want to tell you that I'm going back to writing second person point of view.
You plopped onto the brown couch and stretched out your arms with a yawn. The rest of the gang came walking into the household as you lied down on the couch. Two-Bit immediately took that opportunity and walked up to you.
"Is this seat taken?" two-bit joked, turning around. Your eyes widened. "No? Okay, cool."
"Two-Bit don't you—OOF!"
You wheezed drastically as Two-Bit sat down right on top of you. As if it wasn't enough, he began to lightly bounce on you like you were a brand new bed.
"This seat is super comfy!" two-bit exclaimed with a smile. "Hey Darry! Where did you get this couch? The cushions are so soft!"
Darrel looked over his shoulder, his eyes shooting wide open as he saw Two-Bit's figure sitting straight on top of you.
"Get your damn ass off of Dani, Two-Bit!" darrel chastised, approaching the comedian. "You're gonna crush her."
"You're no fun Darry," two-bit complained, standing up off of you. You released a large breath of air, you could finally breath. "fun Darry would've joined me."
"Too bad there ain't none of that," you commented, sitting up. Darrel was staring at you with the same old stern look that seemed to be plastered on his face. "say Darry, do you have a fun side?"
Darrel just continued to blankly glare at you as if he didn't know what the word "fun" meant, which didn't surprise you. It wasn't long until Steve came walking out of the kitchen, screaming at the top of his lungs that he wanted to go do something to entertain him.
"I say we cause a little trouble," dallas suggested with a sly smirk. "what do you all say?"
"I'm exhausted," you responded, laying back down onto the couch. "I'll pass. Have fun."
Everyone exchanged glances before filing out the door. Ponyboy was the last one out, but he realized that his oldest brother wasn't tagging along.
"You comin' Darry?"
"I'm good Pony, you guys go have your fun," darrel replied. Ponyboy said his final goodbye before sprinting out the door, shouting at his friends to wait for him. Darrel shifted his eyes back over to you. "I'll be in the kitchen if you need me Dani."
"Wait, Darry," you called out, sitting back up. Darrel stopped in his tracks and turned to face you in response of you calling his name. "I was wondering...Would you like to I don't know, build a blanket fort with me?"
"Dani I—" darrel paused as he saw your facial expression. The way you were looking him was convincing enough. Darrel inhaled deeply and nodded. "I'll do it with you."

The gang were all whacking each other in amusement, laughing about the previous situations that happened tonight as they walked through the gate to the house. Sodapop, being the front of the line came to a complete halt as they reached the stairs that led up to the porch.
"Is that music I hear?" sodapop questioned, putting out his arm to prevent the others from going on. "What is going on in there?"
Everyone remained low and quiet as they made their way up to the window that gave them the insight of the living room. Sodapop and Ponyboy subtly looked above and into the window, only to see something they haven't seen in a long time.
"I don't believe it," ponyboy breathed out in amazement. The gang all asked at once, wondering what Ponyboy was so shocked by. "Darry is actually genuinely laughing, as in, he's having...fun."
All the guys started pushing and shoving, wanting to see what the whole big deal was. Once Sodapop had gotten a clear look into the house, the first thing that caught his eye was the big blanket fort. His eyes shifted to see you and Darrel dancing around the house, belting out the lyrics to the song at the top of your lungs.
There was a movie on the television in the background and a half-full bowl of popcorn on the ground. It seemed that you two had also watched a movie together. Darrel was having a real good time, and he hasn't looked any happier. All the guys gasped as Darrel picked up the bowl of popcorn and began chucking handfuls of buttery goodness at you.
"He's makin' a mess!" steve called out, perking up. Sodapop sharply took Steve's arm and dragged him back down. "I can't believe my damn eyes! Darry is makin' an actual mess! He's always yellin' at us whenever we make one!"
"It's probably Dani," dallas thought out loud, gathering the attention of his other friends. "oh come on you guys, you don't see Darry doin' all this stuff with us do ya? It's obvious that Dani makes him want to act a different way."
"Wait," two-bit spoke, scratching the top of his head. "do you think that—"
"Darry likes Dani?" dallas interrupted. He looked at everyone and nodded. "Yup."

You couldn't stop thinking about Darrel the entire night after you went home. You were planning to hang out and play with the guys for a game of football the next day. You were more than excited to see him again as you were heading over to his house. You had figured out that Darrel had a fun side, and that side made you love him even more.
You made your way up the stairs and into the house, seeing that nobody was in the living room, you knew they were in the kitchen. You start heading over to the kitchen, suddenly stopping as you heard your name being said on the other side of the wall. You stay still and slowly make your way behind the wall to listen to their conversation.
"Stop bein' so stubborn Darry, we all know that you like Dani," you overhear Sodapop accuse. Your heart skipped a beat. "we all saw you last night havin' the time of your life with her. You can't be goin' around sayin' you don't have feelings for Dani when it clearly looked like it last night."
"I already told you guys, I'm not interested in Dani that way," darrel exclaimed loudly. You frowned. "she's too much of a kid. Last night was a mistake, okay? I'm sorry if I made you think that way about her, but I don't think of her that way. Now, will you let me—"
Darrel froze as he walked out of the kitchen, seeing you on the other side.
"D-Dani," darrel stuttered. "I-I—"
Darrel reached out for you, but it was too late, you were already rushing out the door. The rest of the gang started walking over to see what was going on, only to see Darrel chasing after you out the door. He called your name several times, desperately asking you to stop and listen to him.
All you could do was just replay the fact that he called you a "kid" that he didn't feel the same way. You didn't even want to think about the fact that he called last night a "mistake" because it certainly wasn't for you. Tears stung in your eyes as you ran out of the gate and out into the street.
A strong hand came down onto your shoulder and turned you around. You swiftly wiped away your tears as you came face to face with Darrel.
"Dani, please, hear me out—"
"That what?! What could you possibly have in mind after saying those dreadful things about me!" you cried out, embarrassed from the fact you were crying. You didn't think that crying was really helping the situation of being seen as a "kid" at the moment. "Are you just going to tell me that the friendship we have is completely fake? That you can't be friends with a kid? Well, I can take care of myself!"
You tried to turn away but Darrel gripped on both of shoulders, making sure you stayed in place. He bored his deep brown eyes into yours.
"Dani, I said those things because I'm insecure," darrel spoke softly yet powerfully. "I'm insecure about whether I'm gonna be judged for lovin' a seventeen year old!"
"L-Love," you stammered, a tear sliding down your cheek. You avoided his gaze and sniffled. You gently lifted your eyes to meet with his gentle ones. "y-you love me?"
"Ever since Two-Bit introduced me to you Dani," darrel confessed, sliding his hands off of your shoulders. "Dani...I said last night was a mistake because I refrained from telling you that I loved you. I kept beatin' myself up last time, tellin' myself that I should have told you, but I didn't."
Words couldn't be thought of and so you did what your heart told you to do. You swooped in and clashed your lips upon Darrel's, gingerly kissing them for a few seconds before pulling away. You tucked a strand of your hair behind your ear and blushed.
"I'm sorry I acted so childish about that situation," you apologized quietly. "I've loved you for as long as you have to me too. I just didn't know how to express it."
Darrel's lips curved to a small smile. "That kiss was as clear of an answer than it could have been."
