20- forgive me father

Dedicated to IiraSaga

"WHAT DO YOU mean by that?" Mr. Mensa asked Jade.

Things were about to turn sour very fast. If Jade told his father what I had done or rather planned on doing, it would ruin all chances I had of him believing that I didn't want to hurt his son anymore.
I need to do something and do it fast.

"I wanted to hurt Jade," I got up and blurted out.

"What did you just say?" Mr. Mensa gave me with a look that could kill.

Now I know where Jade gets that look from, I thought.

"I made a plan to hurt Jade the way I thought you'd hurt my dad. I was bitter and angry but things have changed now."

I turned to look at Jade who was biting into an apple that had mysteriously appeared in his hand.

"I told you to come to me whenever anyone tried to hurt you," Mr. Mensa nearly shouted at Jade.

He raised both hands and shrugged. How could he act so nonchalant right now? The Jade I knew was an emotional person and that was his strongest trait, something I really admired him for.

"Things have changed Mr. Mensa. Jade is more than a brother to me now." I tried explaining to him.

"Did Cynthia put you up to this? Do you guys really hate us that much?" he directed his anger towards me.

"Dad, it's alright. That's just how things are," Jade added the last sentence quietly.

That was when I understood what was going on with him. He felt like he deserved whatever that happened to him. That he didn't deserve to be happy in life. And it was all my fault. I should've told him the truth earlier.

"How do we know that you've really changed?" Mr. Mensa asked me.

"I have. I really have. Jade is family to me now," I turned to look at Jade but he stared straight through me.

"I think I believe you," Mr. Mensa and continued, "Laser always had an expression when he was being sincere and you have the same expression now."

"There's something called acting. He-", Jade was saying but I cut him off by giving him a hug.

He stood there limply in my arms. Normally, this would be weird since we were two guys but I loved him too much to care. He was my brother and would always be my brother.

"I'm really sorry bro. And I will continue to prove it to you," I said and felt him pull away from me.
He just shrugged and left us to his room.

"I'll talk to him David. Don't worry." Mr. Mensa put his arm around my shoulders.

"Thanks Mr. Mensa and thanks for believing me too," I replied.

Later when I got home, Jane was staring at the television watching Spongebob Squarepants. She didn't hear me come in and also didn't see me as I walked past her to my room. I threw my bag on the bed and threw myself unto it.
Things were so complicated right now. I covered my face with a pillow and screamed.

"I won't wash the pillow case if there's snot on it, Dave."

Aunt Cynthia was standing at the door, her arms crossed. She never wanted to admit it but my aunt was very beautiful.
She had short hair in a bob style with full lips and dimples that were very deep. Life hadn't been easy on her so her face looked tired all the time.

"Sorry. I'm just tired," I explained.

She and I had talked after her angry outburst at Jade. She admitted to me that what she did wasn't right and even asked for Jade's number to apologize. I told her about our fight and the reason behind the fight.
She was shocked but said she understood my reasons.

"Jade's still mad at you?" she asked.

"More like hurt and hates me," I said.

"He'll come around honey. Trust me," she walked into my room and sat down on the bed.
I wanted to tell her about my conversation with Mr. Mensa but knew she wouldn't believe me. I had to make sure she talked to him herself.

"Can I ask you a favor? Please don't get mad."

"Sure honey. What is it?" she took my hand into hers.

"Can we go to the Mensa's this weekend? There's something you should hear from Mr. Mensa."

She looked at me without saying anything for a while. It was quite unnerving. There was a high chance of her saying no to what I asked. I didn't care. I would grovel until she agreed to talk to him.

"Sure Dave. I think it's time he and I talked once and for all," she finally said.
