37. Confessions
~ Just because that person didn't react, dosen't mean they didn't notice.
Amyrah
Rolling on my bed, my thoughts were clogged with aunt's words. With a sigh, I climbed out of bed. Looking at the time I found out that it was 2 pm. How come I was in bed for so long!?
I convinced myself that the clock had the wrong time. After a quick shower, I ran downstairs with my hair dripping wet.
As I was about to yell a greeting, I stopped in my tracks, my eyes finding a new visitor.
Mrs. Malik.
"Amyrah..." she whispered looking above at me. I descended down the stairs, a slow smile escaping my lips.
"Azreena aunty."
"Darling."
She came forward with her arms wide, her eyes watering. Going toward her I hugged her, not knowing what else to do.
"I am sorry," she whispered.
For? "It's okay."
"I love you, darling. After all these years... I finally found you. You've grown. Just like your mom and dad," saying that she kissed my cheeks and ruffled my hair.
Happy wasn't even a word I was feeling, I was elated. I grinned like a fool. I hugged her again, taking her by surprise. After all these years, there was someone to hold me. Love me. Just like a mother. "I love you too aunty," I whispered in my heart. I didn't even know her. Yet, I feel attached. Maybe it was a feeling I haven't faced. Or maybe I am over reacting.
Was this a motherly hug I never had?
It was then I realized that Mr. Malik was standing there too. I gave him greetings and a sweet smile. He nodded patting my head. "Don't hesitate to tell us if you ever need anything," he said.
I just nodded at him smiling. With one thought, I wish papa was there. A fatherly affection. How I wished I could earn it, but sometimes no matter how much we wish, some things aren't just meant to be ours.
My eyes clouded, but I kept on a straight face. All the while I could feel someone's eyes on me. Aunt. She stared at me without any emotion. I looked away. After her confession, I felt awkward, but at the same time I felt a bubble of happiness enveloping me. For her to do such things for me, meant alot.
Or maybe I was over reacting yet again?
Just before they leave, Mr Malik handed over to me a few papers, whispering, "Your father had left some letters for you." I looked at them with confusion. Then taking a double look, I gazed at the papers with love and clutched them safely in my hand.
Then Azreena aunty turned toward me and said lovingly, "I have to go now. I will come back another time. Here my number, you can call me anytime."
I nodded thanking her. With a nod at aunt, the two of them left, but not before turning back to me and saying, "If you wish, you can come live with me... just for a few days..."
I stared at her, wondering if I heard right. She then said, "Take your time and let me know." With a hug she left.
Live with her? Though she's my family, I just met her so how could I even think of living, least of all staying at their house? My brows furrowed with puzzlement and hesitation.
Looking at my hands, I saw the papers my father had left. Unknowingly my heart soared with happiness and pain.
Just as I was about to go back upstairs to read them, I heard a quiet voice, "Will you go?"
"Um... I don't know..." I muttered. I don't know why but I couldn't exactly face aunt.
"Don't go. I am sure you won't like it there, you'll come back running here again," she said arrogantly.
I frowned. "As if you can predict the future."
"Don't tell me I didn't warn you." With a, "Hmph!" she went to the kitchen. After a moment she shouted, "Come and eat now!"
I didn't know what to make out of her behaviour. The more I thought about it, the more I felt like though she cares, she acts tough and unbothered, but I had a feeling she's much more affectionate deep down.
Then suddenly turning to me she said, "Sorry."
"Huh? Whaaatt!?" Though I understood what she said, I just couldn't digest that she's actually saying that.
"Can't you hear!? I said sorry, child!" She said offended.
Huh? What a way to apologise! I giggled. This was her way of saying sorry.
I said in the same tone. "Hmm. You can't be forgiven that easily hun!"
"Hun!?"
"Yeah, hun! The school principal taught me that. It's probably used for someone who is stupid, I guess," I said shrugging.
Aunt's shoulders shook, it took me a while to realize that she's actually laughing. "So everyone knows you're stupid."
"Hah! So are you hun!" I frowned.
"Well, I am your aunt hun."
"Glad to know hun!"
And that's how we made up, thanks to this so called "hun".

Planning an exam for my students was such an amazing thing to do. I smiled gleefully looking at the tough paper. Clapping my hands once I was done, I left my room.
I hummed walking around the house like a ghost with my hair in a messy bun and an oversized dress, more like a pyjama, but not like it bothered me one bit.
I mean who in the world would wear make up, a cute dress, comb the hair neatly and walk around the house? Not me of course, but surely the actresses in all those dramas. They are called actress for a reason, because they act. Bingo!
When I walked past the dining room I heard a sound. Curious, I silently opened the door, but couldn't see anything as the place was engulfed by darkness. It was then I heard a voice.
"Ammar, let's go now. Someone will come."
Oh. Lord. Ammar!? Surely the voice had to be his wife. I didn't know why but my heart began beating twice the normal. I slowly stepped back, when I heard yet another voice.
"So?" I heard Ammar saying smugly.
I took another step back. I felt a tap on my shoulder, eyes widening I opened my mouth to scream, but before I could, the person aka ghost covered my mouth with it's hand pulling me away. The whole while I didn't try to shout because I knew well who this person was. Aunt.
"What are you doing!?" Aunt whisper yelled. "Don't you have shame! Evesdropping on their personal affairs."
"Oh c'mon aunt, I was doing nothing. You simply happened to come at the wrong time," I said frowning.
"Wallah girl, they are a married couple, you must not eavesdrop. It might cause them embarassment or even lead to arguments!" Aunt advised.
I just nodded not bothering to take heed of it. "But I wonder what they were doing sneakily!" After a sudden thought my mouth hung open in shock. I said loudly, "Oh Lord! They were doing some couple stuff!!"
Aunt silenced me saying, "Are you mad!?"
Not bothering to lower my voice I said frantically. "Oh my Lord! They were doing something... Oh Allah! Thank you for saving my eyesight from seeing haraam stuffs---!"
"What's happening!?"
The voice startled me. Ammar! As much as I felt a tint of embarassment, at the same time I couldn't help but feel a tiny bit curious.
"Hey, big bro!" I smirked. "What were you doing alone with your---"
Aunt grabbed my hand and pulled me away, with an astonished looking Ammar and a flustered Rayzah, while I burst out laughing.
Aunt glared at me saying, "After you marry you will feel sorry for doing that!"
"What did I do?" I asked innocently, before bursting out in laughter.
It was then I realized that I had to read the papers papa had left for me.
"Oh shoot! I gotta go, hun!"
