57. New tension
~ "In a sea of people, my eyes will always be searching for you."
Amyrah
I woke up in the middle of the night with a painful headache. I grimaced. The cool night breeze whistled, blowing lightly through my clothes. The sky was deep, clear blue and the moonlight reflected on our window. I could feel the softness of the breeze making my hands and feet quiver.
I searched for the blanket and as usual it was in the floor.
How?
Zameer and I have a very bad kicking habit while sleeping.
I picked it up and neatly covered it around the two of us. Turning to my right I saw Zameer sleeping on his stomach, few snores emitting from his mouth.
I tapped him. "Zameer. I'm having a headache."
As usual no reply. I tapped him again and spoke, "What am I supposed to do? Can you give me a head massage? But of course you're sleeping. Even my eyes hurt now. Should I take medicine? But no, we shouldn't have medicines on an empty stomach. Oh, look at the time. It's almost three. I bet the sky looks beautiful. Shall we go to the balcony? We can watch the stars twinkle till our eyes close. It would be so memorable. Oh Zameer, you look so darn cute, but I would never admit it."
I closed my eyes. The calmness of the night eerie. I snuggled closer inside the blanket.
"Oh Zameer. I have a very bad feeling... a very bad one."
***
"Amyrah, wake up!"
"Lemme sleep, Zameer. Go away." I glared at him and went back to sleep.
Oh how the tables have turned.
"It's almost noon now. Get up! We have to pack our stuffs. We are going to the moon tomorrow remember?" Zameer pulled the blanket away and tossed it on the floor.
I jumped off the bed. Zameer quickly backed away, thinking that I am going to hit him... maybe?
I smirked, "Fine, I'm going to have a shower now. Arrange and clean the room before I come."
His mouth hung open while I sashayed inside the bathroom.
Urgh. My head hurts.
***
"Zameer!" I yelled from the bathroom. "Get out of the room I have to change!"
"Geez, woman! Don't order me around!"
"Don't call me woman!"
I heard the door banging. Ouch. My head ached even more now.
I wiped my hair and let it flow back messily. A few curly locks falling to my face. I dressed up in a casual full sleeved maroon top which reached my knee and a slim black pant. Then draped my shawl which was black with red embroidery and placed it neatly around my shoulders. I put on a necklace and tightened my earrings, which is always on my ear.
As aunt says--- a newly wed must wear a gold ring, necklace, earring, bangles--- geez.
My legs and hands felt cold. The weather had turned gloomy. A perfect time to sleep. Eh.
I put on my maroon boots, maroon jacket and a maroon glove. Now I was stuffed and didn't feel cold either. I happily skipped to the kitchen to grab my late breakfast.
Oops. I had to remove my glove. I removed my right one and filled my plate with food.
I was about to grab a bite, when I felt four pairs of eyes looking at me.
I turned, gave them a sheepish smile and went back to my breakfast. Yum. What bothered me was, the others were staring. At me.
"Um... is something wrong?" I mumbled.
No reply.
"Er... are you going somewhere?" Zameer's dad looked at me curiously.
"Nop."
Zehra rolled her eyes. "Don't mind her dad. Amyrah's always been a bit weird."
Zameer cleared his throat. "You look lovely."
I chocked. "You didn't just say that and neither did I hear that!"
"Huh? I said you look lovely," Zameer repeated.
I looked at him wearily. No. I am not going to blush. No. No. No. Control. Control!!!!!
"Um, what?" I looked away.
"I said you look lovely! Like really really really beautiful! What's wrong with your ears!?" Zameer exclaimed.
Wow. Wow. Wow. I have no words. Once a fool, always a fool.
Zehra coughed. Their parents hurriedly left while Zehra gave us one last smirk and followed them.
I blushed furiously.
There goes my control!
Zameer casually put his hands inside his jean pocket and walked towards me with a huh expression.
"Hi... haha?" I laughed stupidly.
"Hello love. Why are you so red?"
"Because... because... because... you idiot!!!" I huffed angrily.
"Mmhm. I see. I see," Zameer grinned, feathering my cheeks with his fingers. "Are you ready to go?"
"Go where?" I internally smirked.
"Moon... you know?" Zameer replied hastily.
"Why can't you just say HONEYMOON!?" I face palmed myself.
"It's weird. You wouldn't understand," He scratched his head. Psycho?
"Whatever. Where are we going again?"
He glared at me. "Village. You know my dad's cottage, I mean now it's mine."
I shrugged. "Oh and I want to go to see Azreena aunty and Shehzad...er... my cousins today."
"No."
"I WANT TO GO NOW."
"No."
"I love you na. Please?"
"I love you too. Okay let's go."
***
As soon as we reached Shehzad's home, I dashed out of the car and rang the bell, with Zameer yelling something like Don't run fast, woman! Not that I care.
The gate opened and I saw a curious looking Bushra.
"Oh my gosh. Were you thrown out of your home!? Are you---"
"No." I deadpanned.
Just then Zameer came breathing heavily. "Women these days."
Before I could reply I heard a screach and the gate banged shut. Bushra. "Don't come in! Don't come in!"
Zameer looked at me curiously. "Why is your Bushy yelling?"
"Must be she thought you are a ghost."
"No, seriously?"
I shrugged.
Then Shehzad opened the gate harshly, without even looking at us. "Come on in. I am so sorry. Bushra became a bit over excited. Sorry. Really don't feel bad. We are happy to have you."
Zameer pushed Shehzad away saying, "Maan, don't treat me like a guest."
"Oh Zameer! It's you!" Shehzad's mouth formed an O.
Who else?
"Yup!" Zameer bumped fists with him.
"Long time no see!"
They just met the other day.
"How's the wife?" Shehzad grinned. Zameer placed a finger in his mouth, "Shush. She'll hear."
"Oh God. Is she there?" Shehzad gasped.
"Yes. Right behind ya," I crossed my arms.
"Oh? Hahaha... hahaha," Shehzad took a step back. Then whispered harshly to Zameer, which unfortunately I heard as well. "Why didn't you warn me?"
"Psst. Psst. Shezy boy, I am right here. And I have a good hearing."
"Shezy what!? No! My nightmare's coming true..." Shehzad grumbled. Apparently he had a nightmare where all his friends call him with ewww nicknames.
"Now now guys don't fight," Zameer said smugly.
I rolled my eyes at them and went to find----
"Amyrah darlinnnnggggg!" Azreena aunty, Shehzad's mom ran towards me.
"Hey!" His older sister waved.
"Missss!!!" Shahla burst out in tears. Fake tears. She somehow started calling me Miss, because once upon a time I taught her, that too only for a few minutes.
I hugged them all, grinning.
"Amerah! Amerah!" Hania clapped excitedly. "Baby misses Amerah alot!"
"I miss baby too!"
"Baby got a barbie doll now," she said pointing to a cot.
"Hania, sweetie, don't call your sister a barbie doll."
"But she so cute and so pretty."
I looked at her lovingly. "Just like you."
"And you," she replied back.
Then she skipped towards Zameer. "Groom Zam!"
"Groom Zam!?" We all burst out laughing.
Then---
Then---
Zameer blushes. Tint of red appears in his neck and ears.
I smirked. "Zameer, why are you so red?"
Sweet, ain't it?
***
Bushra and I were sitting in the dining room, dining. As in eating.
"Have I become fat, Amyrah?" Bushra asks sadly.
I look at her from top to bottom. "Um... not really."
"It means I have! You just don't want to tell me! What can I do? I'm eating alot these days. I'm always hungry!" She cries.
"Bushy..."
"Now everyone will hate me."
"Oh shut up, Bushy. You look cute. It's fine if your chubby, as long as your healthy, okay? Sometimes I wish I have cheeks like yours. They are so cute," I say patting her hand.
"Shehzad likes pinching my cheeks too---- Oh no! Did I actually say that!? Please say NO Amyrah!!"
I give her a weary look.
Just then my phone rang.
Fabulous Four- group video call.
I grin evilly. I turn to Bushra who gives a questioning look.
"Hey Bushra, smile creepily."
"Huh why?"
"It's a game. Come on!" I encouraged.
She then began making wierd faces. I answer the video call and direct my phone front of Bushra's face.
"Oh my God, Bushra!?"
"Wow... I never thought..."
I heard Humaira and Zehra giggling. Bushra stopped in her tracks and glared at me.
"Amyrah! I hate you! I hate you! You evil creature! I hate you!"
I just laughed stucking out my tongue.
"What are you guys doing together?" Humaira snaps.
"She's my cousin in law duh."
"Hey guys?" Bushra interrupted. "Have I become fat?"
"Kinda," Humaira shrugs.
"Nop," Zehra says.
"I love you, Zehra," Bushra grins.
"Love ya too."
Humaira and I groaned.
***
Shehzad
"I win! I win!" I fist my hand up in the air. Zameer stares at me. I blush and quiet down.
Zameer lay on the couch while I sat on the other. We were playing rock-paper-scissors.
"Hmph. I could have won, but I just didn't want to make you loose..." Zameer mumbled.
What a looser!
After a while the two of us go to the balcony.
Zameer raises his brow, "So say?"
"What to?" I shrug.
"Just. Anything. Something."
"You're going tomorrow?"
"Yeah," Zameer grinned.
"Excited?"
"Yeah."
"Why that place?" I ask curiously.
"No reason. It's cool."
We look at the road, the vehicles, the sky, everything but the two of us.
"Everything's changed now," I shake my head with a smile.
Zameer didn't reply.
I walk back. Somehow at that moment either of us didn't have anything to talk about. Or we just didn't know what to talk about. It was pretty awakward.
After a few minutes, Zameer and Amyrah began leaving. Followed by hugs and waves.
Just as I was about to close the gate door, Zameer turned back and grinned.
"I still hate you, Shehzu."
"I hate you more, Zamy."
***
"Bushra? Are you okay? Why are you in the bathroom for so long?" I asked worriedly.
"I am fine," she snaps.
After a couple of minutes she comes out tiredly. Then flops to the bed next to me grinning as she sees me. Huh?
Bushra caress my cheeks and leans forward---
Huh?
"Shehzad."
"Mmhm?"
"Let's go to the hospital tomorrow."
