The frat house hosting the party was bigger than I expected. It was traditional and elegant from the exterior, but the inside was clearly a different story. As we strolled up the path, I noticed the garden was decorated with red plastic cups. The music was thumping like a club, influencing a ping of excitement inside me. I hadn't been to a party since what happened, I hadn't even drank. I used to always get wasted, stay at my friends house, and never tell my mom and dad.
I smiled to myself as I remembered the one time me and my old friend Nicole got so drunk we slept in her car outside where the party was hosted. We were seventeen, a pair of rebels, and didn't care. But then a flash of Kierans face knocked me out of my reminiscence, there was nothing good to remember about him and unfortunately he came with all those memories.
"Vic?"
Vic. That sounded so much better than Vicky and I was thrilled she'd used that instead of it.
"Er yeah?" I looked round to see three guys standing beside her. I could just about see their faces in the dark, but the few colourful lights that were scattered around made it easier to see.
"This is my brother, Adam-" she pointed to the tallest with blonde messy hair. He was cute. "- and this is his main friends, Jason and Carter" the other two were just as cute, just as muscular, and both had darker hair than Adam. But I still wasn't interested. I don't think any boy would interest me again.
"Nice to meet you" I gave a small wave and one of the brunettes - I think Carter - gave me a wink before sliding his arm around my shoulder. I instantly froze up.
"Hey, Angel, why don't we go get a drink?" He reeked of alcohol, I'm sure it was rum I could smell, and he was practically slurring his words. I looked over to Bree for help but she was gone.
"Er, no thank you. I'm okay" I nudged his arm away from my shoulder, suddenly frightened when he held on tighter. "Can you please let go" I shrugged my shoulder more to move him, but he didn't. "Seriously, get off me!" I hadn't realised I'd shouted until a few faces turned to look at us. Luckily, he moved his arm and placed both hands up in surrender before moving himself towards what looked like the kitchen. He practically staggered, bumping into several people, but I was just glad he was gone.
As I glanced around the space surrounding me, I noticed Bree standing beside her brother and his other friend, Jason. They were in the corner of a living room. She seemed to be too close considering he was her brothers friend, but I guessed she had a little crush on him. I turned slightly, stopping when I saw her call me over.
Her infectious bright smile was aimed straight at me as she waved her hand towards herself for me to follow.
I made my way through the throng of people, squeezing through gaps without trying to upset anyone. Most people were too drunk to notice.
"Where's Carter?"
I winced. "Hopefully not coming back"
"Oh," she giggled before passing me a drink of some clear looking liquid. "Vodka" she clarified and took a sip of her own. "So you don't like him?"
I shook my head rapidly. "No way, he was practically all over me. No thank you"
"Yeah, he is a little touchy-feely," she shuddered before giggling again. "I know, let's dance!" She dragged me towards the middle of where everyone was dancing, and I didn't miss the look Jason gave her as she walked away. Yep, they were totally into each other and Adam had no idea.
"Tell me you dance?" She asked, eyes wide with hope.
"Yes, I dance"
"Good!" She lifted our joined hands in the air as she spun around, moving her hips. She had her eyes closed and was completely lost in the song. It was by Mabel, and was also one of my favourites so I couldn't help join in. I thought I felt free earlier, but this was something else. This was pure bliss. Happiness at its peak. I hadn't felt this good in such a long time, maybe it's because I know he can't hurt me here but either way I felt amazing.
Bright colourful light scattered above us and the smell of beer filled my nostrils. We were halfway through the third song, when a pair of hands gripped my hips. I may have had a drink, but that didn't mean I was relaxed enough to let some strange guy grab me and grind on me the way this one was. I pushed them away, moving slightly forward to create a gap when his hands landed back on my hips. This time I turned to show him how pissed I was, but almost lost my footing when I noticed it was Carter again.
"Move" I yanked his hands away, and headed towards the stairs. My heart was pounding.
"Come on Angel, you know you want me" he breathed down my ear as I reached the bottom step, and I nudged my elbow backwards until I heard a loud grunt come from him. Idiot. I turned to see him clutching his chest, anger laced through his facial features.
I made my way up the stairs, intending to find a bathroom. I needed some space, some time to calm down. I realised I had no idea which door led to what, so I decided to try all of them. Biggest mistake ever. As soon as I opened the first door, my eyes were hit by a rock hard, solid torso, abs glistening from sweat, forehead dripping, and dark hair tousled perfectly. He was roughly six foot three, standing above me. My eyes wouldn't move. My feet betrayed me too, glued to the floor. A slight flicker of movement had my eyes averting sideways, a girl standing in her underwear also pulling her clothes on like him.
I shut the door in a flash. I rushed away, feeling ashamed that I'd walked in on them. How embarrassing.
"Fuck" I whispered to myself.
I could feel the crimson hue heating my cheeks, turning brighter as I heard the same door open and close gently behind me. I turned, a dirty smirk playing on his face.
"I'm sorry" I said, looking back down at my red painted toe nails, hoping the floor would suck me up.
I heard his feet creep towards me, black Adidas trainers stopped so we were toe-to-toe. "Don't be" he answered, lifting my chin with his index finger. His eyes were a dark brown, sparkling and hypnotic. His entire presence made my body shake and my heart pound. It terrified me just as much as it excited me.
"But I walked in on you"
"Everyone fucks sweetheart, especially at parties"
To hear him say that so calm, in such a sexy, deep voice, sent shivers across my body. Something had triggered inside me as soon as I'd lay eyes on him, and I needed to move. Now.
"What's wrong cupcake?" He smirked again, his finger still gripping my chin.
Cupcake? The nickname sounded juvenile. Something you'd call your child or a child. To say I was insulted was an understatement. I stepped back, my heavy breathing coming more from anger now, as I prepared myself to walk away.
"Hey," he grabbed my arm as I spun towards the staircase. "You've got quite a sweet ass, sweet lips too, I'm sure I could give you the best orgasm yet. Bet all those other guys have never given you one like I could" his perusal of my body made me shake even more.
I tried to fight away. I wasn't getting into a conversation like this with him and I definitely wasn't taking him up on his offer. I managed to escape, rushing down the stairs, and approaching Bree straight away.
"Hey! How's my favourite friend!" She screamed, pulling me back towards the dance area.
"I'm gonna go, Bree"
Her face dropped and I felt awful. I didn't want to leave her here, but I presumed she was more safe here than in our dorm with her brother being here.
"What happened?" She held my cheeks, studying me intently for a second. Everything came flooding back to me from just that single action. Kierans hands on my cheeks before he kissed me, our first kiss, our dates, and then-
I ran. I ran towards the front door, almost tripping over a couple chewing each other's faces off as I got down the steps.
"Victoria!"
I heard Bree shouting me but I froze when I saw those familiar dark eyes locked on me. He was stood with a spliff between his two fingers, one hand in the pocket of his ripped jeans, as he stared at me from across the front yard.
"Vic?" Bree's hand brushed the tears from my left cheek as she approached me. "What happened?"
I looked at her, finally breaking eye contact with Mr mysterious, and let her tug me towards a taxi.
"Bree, wait! I'll drive you" Jason came from behind us, keys ready in his hands. "Come on,"
He led us towards his black BMW, but not before fist pumping Mr mysterious. I rolled my eyes at the coincidence. He just had to stop for him didn't he?
"What's up bro, haven't seen you all night" Jason asked.
"You too, been with Lolly haven't I" he smirked, but not before looking straight at me as he said it. What was he playing at? And who is lolly? Who calls themselves that?
Jason shook his head before high fiving his friend. "This is Bree - as you know - and her new roommate Victoria. This is Mason"
Mason.
"Yeah, we met. Can we go now?" I didn't care how sour I sounded, and it was clear Mason was enjoying it.
"Don't worry cupcake, I'm leaving anyway" he threw the finished spliff on the grass and stalked towards the house. He sounded more annoyed than I expected.
As Jason carried on walking, I couldn't help turn back. But there he was, eyes locked on me again, stood in the doorway. He wasn't froze still, he was relaxed; he didn't care that I knew he was watching me. I swivelled my head and followed Bree, never looking back.
