Grillby's
I had left the inn early that morning, pulling my thin windbreaker tighter around me.
I had to find more G if I was to stay another night. Or eat food for that matter. I still wanted to go home. Buy I should give Toriel some time to herself. I know her, she must be really upset.
I know you could gain G from battle with a monster, but there was two problems with that. One, I didn't want to fight. The thought of attacks flying at me and falling down, dying, I just couldn't. Two, even if I wanted to, and that is a GIANT if, the monsters wouldn't approach me. And if they did, they would either RUN, beg for MERCY, or just watch me. It was unsettling. I had only come across a few monsters in the ruins, and one broke into tears at the sight of me, the ghost just floating into the floor. I never saw him after that. We had to be at least on opposite sides of the great hall.
But I still got it some gold out of the encounters I did have, so I know I could get some now.
I just had to approach someone, wait for them to do that weird... tugging thing at my chest?to be honest I didn't really understand what they were doing. I read a few books Toriel had, but still... I was left quite confused. Not understanding the concept. But if I could afford to stay out of the cold because of it, then I'll go through that all day.
As I walked I came across some a path with a box at the end, but the box wasn't mine, so I shan't open it. As I stood a good few feet away from it, everything went black. A snowflake shaped monster came up to me, it didn't have any arms. That made me feel bad for it. But it seemed to be doing just fine. It stared at me expectantly, waiting for something.
So when we stood there for a moment, just looking at each other, the monster began to sweat. By now, I was tired of the odd encounter, and ignoring my extreme anxiety creeping up on me I decided to ACT.
"So, is it normally this cold here in Snowdin? It would be ice to snow it wasn't, but I can only hope, right?" I tried to be funny with my play on words, and the monster seemed to enjoy the pun. We exchanged a few words and by the time I felt it was about time our encounter be over, the world faded back to normal, and snowdrake, as I soon learned was it's name was acting very kindly towards me, unlike monsters I had the... Pleasure, of meeting before. He waved me off and I saw that I had earned 13G from that one encounter. If I could make that much with just making friends with people, then I would have enough for a few nights at the inn and some food! I didn't even notice how hungry I was until now.
I kept walking and encountered a few more monsters, and even snowdrake again. Each of those earned me a few G each, and I had enough for another night in the inn. But if I wanted to sleep tonight I wouldn't quite have enough for food. I kept this on my mind as I once again counted the gold prices in my hand. My chest felt weird and my stomach began to growl.
"Seems like your hungry , kid. You know it was kinda rude of ya to bail like ya did yesterday, but I can't blame ya'. That human did have a nasty grip on your arm. " I spun around and my heart skipped a few beats as I took in the presence of the shirt skeleton behind me. Sans had his wide grin on his face as he saw my expression of surprise.
"Yeah, sorry about yesterday, I'm just kinda mad at Frisk right now, and I wanted to stay home. No offense to you though! Your jokes were real rib ticklers!" that earned a chuckled out of the skeleton whom was slightly taller than I.
"Back to the topic of that nasty howl comin' from your stomach, you want to head to Grillby's with me? He's a great cook and they got some good ketchup there." I giggled and nodded my head, glad that he was willing to take me, just hoping he wouldn't make me pay. He held out his hand and closed his left eye.
"Come on, I know a shortcut. " I took his hand and we walked towards some trees. As soon as we walked in between two, it was like I blinked and we were all the sudden in the entrance of a nice warm bar. A few monsters were sitting at tables and playing cards while a man made of fire cleaned a glass behind the bar. We walked over to two stools at the counter, and Sans took what I can only assume is his usual spot. I was about to sit in the seat to the left of him until I saw a whoppie cushion laying down in it. I just picked it up and put it in the chair next to me.
"Nice try, but mom did that one to many times at home and I check before I sit-down. " I leaned on the couch yet a little and turned to Sans, to see an amused smirk on his face.
"The old lady did stuff like that?" he asked, his smile growing on a little at the edges of his grin. " I thought she would be more of a pie in the face kinda person. "
"One, my mom is not old, and if you call her that again I will recite Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. And two, you have no idea about the pie. " We both laughed with one another for a moment while the fire monster came upfront of us and asked us for our orders. I asked for a hamburger and Sans the same with a bottle of ketchup.
When he came back with our orders Sans offered me some ketchup to go with my burger. I happily agreed and took the bottle from his boney hand. Though to my slight distaste the lid fell off and spilled on my sandwich.
"That's quite unfortunate kiddo, you can have my burger if ya want." he commented, sliding his plate towards me, though I only response by looking him in the little pinprick that served as his eye, picked up my ketchup drowned sandwich and took a giant bite out of it. He looked at me for a second, taking in the ketchup that was most definitely decorating my face. Yet we held eye contact for another minute or so until we both broke out into laughter.
Sans got his burger in a doggy bag, at the mention of doggy the doggos sitting at the table behind us got excited, and gave it to me to eat for later. After telling Grillby to put it on his tab, he left, saying he had to head to his station in Waterfall.
"Can't slack off 24/7. But the best part about having multiple jobs? More breaks. " he began his journey towards the door, but before a few steps I called out to him.
"Sans! Wait!" I began as he turned towards me. "would you mind if I go with you? I wanna see Waterfall and I'm guessing you know a short cut?" I sheepishly twisted my hands and loomed at him pleadingly until he shrugged and responded with a why not.
"Won't hurt anything to have someone there while I petrol for humans. You can even help me keep an eye out." he said with a wink. I softly chuckled art this and took his hand which was offered to me. As we stepped out the door, I wasn't greeted by the biting wind, but a gentle breeze and the sound of running water.
Greetings earthlings, demons, and extraterrestrial noodles. Welcome back to my Ted talk. No, I am not dead, yet at least. Another restless night so have another chapter!
