THE ONE WHERE THE SUMMONER IS CHOSEN

MAL IS THE DEFINITION OF A ANGEL. NIMUE SOMETIMES DESPITE HER FOR HOW PERFECT, SHE IS. IF SHE ONLY KNEW THE TRUTH. Mal had spent her time waiting in Sunken Temple for Lenore. Moments later, she could see Lenore walking furiously towards her with Nimue trailing behind her mother. "You will find the wood, you will carve it, and you will string the bow," Lenore told her.

"Josse is half-wit," Nimue responded. Mal leaned closer wanting to hear more of what happened. "And you will apologize to his father," Lenore continued. "Anis? Another half-wit. It would be nice of you if you can take my side for once." They made their way towards her. Lenore smiled upon seeing her, she walked to her side pulling her hair back. "Mal, it's good to see you here. I hope the elders didn't give you much trouble to be here.

"Not really," she responded. By her answer, Lenore knew. The elders never gave her permission to come. "Didn't Milo find you? Tell you they were looking for you?" Lenore questioned ignoring Nimue. Mal couldn't find herself saying. She shakes her head.

Something was wrong. "What is it? Is something wrong?" She asked walking to her side. Mal couldn't help to see Nimue standing there gaped in shock. How quickly her mother will change the topic just to come to Mal aid. "It seems like, Nimue still wants to talk to you." Lenore half-way turned around. "What is it?" Nimue couldn't comprehend how she immediately forgot the situation, she was in and jumped onto another topic.

Nimue shook her head. "You're not listening." Lenore turned herself around fixing her posture straightforward, fierce. "What, Nimue, What? What is it I'm not hearing?" She lowered her voice. "You know what they say. You know how they feel. This sort of outburst only feeds their fear." Mal couldn't understand what she was trying to say to Nimue. Something didn't feel right.

"It's not my fault," Nimue argued, Mal choked on her words. It was. From her understanding, Nimue can be angry and sometimes cause a huge incident because of her magical abilities. "Nimue, please. I'll see you later." Lenore stated leaving Nimue to gaped in shock, again.
"Do I have to?" She asked. Lenore nodded leaving Nimue to wander outside leaving only Lenore and Mal alone.

"Come here, Mal." Lenore led her deeper inside the temple. They sat by some table that was found inside, she sat across from her unable to say some things.

"What is it, Mal? Have you been having dreams again?" Lenore asked. Mal has been having dreams of stars and comets for a long time, sometimes she has dreams of a red planet but that wasn't the reason she came to talk to Lenore. "I've been having dreams of my mother." Lenore could feel her world falling into pieces when she said those words. "I saw her laying on a bed, in pain, she was crying." Mal paused. "She cried for her child." That's the part, where she didn't understand. Does she have another sibling she doesn't know about? Lenore held her breath from tearing up, she truly didn't want to explain but she knew Mal needed to know the truth.

"When your mother died, she was pregnant," Lenore confessed once and for all. "The child was going to be your mother third child. After you and Milo were born, there was a prophecy stated. A prophecy that would foretell you and your brother's future." Mal didn't want to believe what she saw saying. "What?" She uttered unable to say anything else after.

"It was from King Lot bloodline since Charles was his brother it had to fall into you and Milo. Your mother was so lost and confused, your father was marrying another woman. She thought she lost everything, so by mistake, it's been stated, she spend a night with a man. It wasn't your father. She had a child but not with your father." Mal didn't understand the last part. "What do you mean?" Lenore didn't want to blurt anything else after but knew she had gone too far in. "I don't know. The secret was never revealed. Your father chose to raise that child as his own. They were killed in plain sight in AshFolk." Mal couldn't process the number of feelings, she was having. Anger started to blaze within her. "How do you feel right now?" Lenore asked.

Mal own green eyes stared into her eyes, frowning. "I feel angry."

"But your anger is your own. This isn't your fault. Whatever happens in the future isn't your fault. Whatever happened to your parents, it isn't your fault either." Mal felt frustrated, throwing her hands up. Mal didn't want to believe her, she always brings it up trying to convince her, nothing is her fault. She hated it. "Mal?" Lenore questioned. Mal rolled her eyes. "The people in the village, they hate my brother and I. They think we're creatures of the night, were monsters," Mal answered sternly, frowning. Lenore couldn't believe her words. People didn't know where the twins were located but they knew they existed.

"This is your clan. These are your people, not your enemies."

"It's not like I haven't tried. I have! But they won't accept me. They hate me." Mal countered back, holding her breath. "Then teach them. Help them understand. Because one day you'll have to help his village. When I'm gone—"

"Helped?" Mal laughed. She changed her attitude, raising her eyebrows.

"Yes. You are special, Mal. You are gifted," Lenore pull a string of her red hair behind her ear, admiring her lovingly.

Lenore sighed, "Come."

She proceeded carefully through a veil of clinging vines and down a set of ancient stairs, slick with mud and moss. Mal grazed her hands along the sculpted walls, which depicted the ancient myths of Old Gods, to steady her descent into the enormous Sunken Temple. The sun poured hundreds of feet down through a natural vent in the canopy to bathe the altar stone.

"Why do I have to attend this at all?" Mal asked, padding along the tilting path that spiraled all the way to the bottom. "We are choosing the Summoner who will one day be Arch Druid. Today is an important day, and you should be by my side."  Mal rolled her eyes as they reached the temple. She knew what she meant. Ever since she was young, she has been raised by the elders, they always inform her brother and herself about their involvement with the summoner. After the chosen one is revealed, they have to accompany whoever is chosen and help them complete the quest.

Mal kept following her to where they were supposed to meet up. The reached the temple floor, where the village elders had already gathered. Mal could see Milo standing beside Nimue on the side. Mal continued following Lenore. One of the elders stood in front of them. "Where were you, Mal?" Lenore stepped in front of her.

"She was with me, I needed some help." Mal couldn't literally tremble to be in front of one of the elders, she stood behind Lenore. "Go, Mal," Lenore called her out. Mal went towards Milo, who stood beside Nimue. "Where were you?" Milo hissed under his breath.

"I was with, Lenore," Mal answered. Milo rolled his eyes, couldn't believe he had to be yelled again by the elders all because Mal decided to disappeared when she felt like it.

Florentine the Miller spoke up. "But Lenore, surely you can't suggest. I mean, Nimue is too young for such responsibilities."

"True, at eighteen years old she would be young for Summoner," Lenore acknowledged, "But her rapport with the Hidden should outweigh such considerations. Above all else, the Summoner is expected to know the mind of the Hidden and to guide the Sky Folk to balance and harmony on both planes of existence. Since she was very young, the Hidden would been drawn to Nimue."

Mal couldn't comprehend what just occurred. Milo and her exchanged concerning looks. The one person they been training their whole life is for Nimue. Nimue is the chosen one? She didn't believe it.

"She is a corruptor!" Lucien snapped.

"You take that back," Lenore warned him.  Lucien, a venerable Druid leaned closer. "She was rejected by her own father! How can we send her?! The twins are tasked with this mission, you know that! Milo and Mal couldn't serve under this—dark magic," he blurted out. Before he continued any further. Nimue stepped into the circle of Elders. "I don't want to be bloody Summoner! Happy now! I won't want it!" Turning back racing to the other side. Milo couldn't help it, he wanted to go after her, he was desperate.

Mal and Milo exchanged looks with Lucien and Florentine who surprisingly gave them approving looks. They both made their way trailing behind Nimue.

Their mission is about to start.
