Chapter 6

Poppy's PoV

The training session felt like it went on forever, full of full pace physical work as well as nursing and by the end I was exhausted. I'd had to be taught ways of sorting out situations that would only come about being in the team of famous people. There were minimal people in the training session but whether that was intentional or not was never mentioned. I had a feeling it was, just in case someone wanted a way in with a connection to a famous person. It wouldn't take much for these people to earn your trust and then abuse it. I made sure to keep to myself despite the others trying to hold conversations with me. I wasn't having any of it.

"Thanks Poppy. Great training session." The trainer, Phillis, had come up to me holding out my certificate that proved I'd passed the day course.

"Thank you. It was very informative." I smiled as I put the certificate in my bag and headed towards the door.

"I know you'll do well, but please be careful." Phillis was walking back towards me as she spoke and I froze near the door letting the others in the class leave as I turned back to her, my eyebrows raised as I waited to hear what she had to say. "Working with someone famous is one thing, being married to them is another thing. It's far worse, like a target is on your back." With my eyes widened at her blunt comment basically implying I was definitely going to get involved in something soon, I nodded and quickly slipped out of the door, waving as I left.

"Wow." I breathed out to myself as I headed to the car and jumped in. I sped back home and luckily the traffic was on my side as I finally made it home, feeling the relief as the front door came into view. All I could think about was having a long hot bath and resting with Calum, just chilling with him and enjoying time together  before they ended up recording music again and I'd be seeing him a lot less. We needed the time whilst we had it. As I put my key in the door, a weird feeling came over me like someone was watching me. I turned behind me and, seeing the corridor empty, I rushed into the house and slammed the door behind me, letting out the breath I didn't know I was holding. Was I already letting her comment get to me? I'd been out of the training session for about ten minutes and I already thought someone was stalking me.

"Something wrong?" A voice came from further in the house. It wasn't Calum's. Sucking in a sharp breath I rushed into the front room, adrenaline triggering my fight or flight response. I could barely believe my eyes. This was impossible. "Cat got your tongue sis?" He said, smirking at me as he relaxed into the sofa as if he'd been sitting there for a while, looking right at home.

"Will?" I quizzed as I stepped forwards again, feeling uneasy at the sight of him. It'd been years since I'd seen him. He was a mere teen when I left. One with braces and clothes that hung from him because he was an awkward size. He hadn't quite worked out if a beard was cool or not, so he had his little fuzzy beard when I left, matched with his hair that he had cut to look like every other person at college. He was desperate to fit in.
Now he sat on my sofa with a confidence that was unrecognisable; His hair was pruned, short at the sides but long enough at the top to brush it over. The beard was now short and trimmed. His smile was now advert worthy, the pearly whites perfectly straightened. His clothes fitted him well and he'd lost weight but toned up. It was a completely different guy.

"Unless there's another sibling I'm unfamiliar with..." he said smarmily, almost making my want to roll my eyes. I kept it in though, knowing this was the equivalent to making a first impression all over again.

"Wow." I breathed out. "I'm sorry, I just can't believe it. How did you-? Why did-?" My head couldn't compute that my teen brother was there when I left was now this grown adult who had somehow got into my house. "How did you get in?" He let out a shrug.

"Just played the brother card. Security were fine with it. Even let me in and said you'd be back at twelve." My eyes darted to the time where the clock read 12:05. Unbelievable. Was it seriously this easy for someone to just come in? Were they not going to check or ask me first?! I felt on edge, as if walking on eggshells in my own house. It felt uncomfortable, like the atmosphere had suddenly changed.

"And why now? We haven't spoken in like seven years." I quizzed, my arms folding and resting on the small baby bump.

"Well, not that I enjoy ruining relationships but I'm assuming your husband failed to mention that he spoke to me." My face dropped into a scowl as I glared at my brother, unsure as to whether his words were the truth. He could have been lying, or spun the truth like he did with the security guards. I had no proof to say he was honest with me. The key in the front door suddenly caught both of our attentions. We looked round as Calum and Ashton came through the front door in a world of their own, laughing about something until they stopped in the doorway, eyes widened as they noticed us both there. My eyes moved from Will to Cal, waiting for someone's face to give it away. If Calum had done this, why hadn't he told me? Why had he gone behind my back to find out who my brother was?

"Wait. Will?" Calum spoke, my brother smirking in response. I had my answer.

"Calum, what the fuck?" I snapped, my glare now aimed at my husband. Ashton held his hands up in innocence.

"Woah, Pops, it's okay. Just let him explain." Ashton tried desperately to help his brother and friend in need but nothing was saving him this time. He had, once again, violated my trust and brought over someone that I wasn't sure I could even get on with anymore. All I knew was that this conversation was not going to end well. For anyone.
