Scene 2
SETTING
We are in the servants' room now. There are two small beds, two suitcases of the two servants, and a secret box of BRIGHELLA. The room is small and quiet but it's very tidy. PEDROLINO rarely stays in here because he has to work and serve his Masters in their rooms for 24 hours everyday. However, BRIGHELLA loves this room because he can hide in here and sleep all day without being noticed.
AT RISE
While BRIGHELLA is sleeping in the servants' room, PEDROLINO suddenly rushes into the room and talks to himself. He seems worried.
PEDROLINO
(to himself)
Oh my Lord, the Masters had a fight again... I've got to bring them back together... But how can I do this?
(PEDROLINO hears BRIGHELLA snoring. He turns around and smiles.)
Oh yes, maybe I could ask Brighella... He's the smartest servant... I'm sure he can give me some advice.
(PEDROLINO approaches BRIGHELLA then dances around him to wake him up.)
PEDROLINO (Cont.)
(to BRIGHELLA)
Brighella? Brighella?
(PEDROLINO pushes BRIGHELLA over.)
Brighella!
BRIGHELLA
(BRIGHELLA jerks and almost falls to the ground.)
Woah, woah, hey!
PEDROLINO
Wake up, we have a problem.
BRIGHELLA
Gosh, who just pushed me over?
PEDROLINO
Um... no one. You just had nightmares again, didn't you?
BRIGHELLA
(BRIGHELLA yawns.)
Agh, maybe. But why are you here? You have something important to say?
PEDROLINO
Yes, indeed.
BRIGHELLA
What is it?
PEDROLINO
They had a fight again, Brighella. Our Lady wanted a divorce, but the Master begged her not to leave him... He said he would give her everything if she stayed... I feel sorry for the Master, and I really want to help him get back together with her, but I don't know how... Can you give me some ideas?
BRIGHELLA
Did you just say "he would give her everything if she stayed"?
PEDROLINO
Yes.
BRIGHELLA
Hmm... So here's my idea. There's a flower shop nearby, they should be open now. You go there, buy some flowers, and bring them to me.
PEDROLINO
But for what?
BRIGHELLA
I'll tell you later. Our Lady just left the house, and the Master is looking for her. You better go get the flowers now before he comes back.
PEDROLINO
Okay, what kind of flowers do you want me to buy?
(BRIGHELLA falls asleep and starts snoring.)
Um... Brighella? Brighella?
BRIGHELLA
Ugh, wuh? Oh yeah, roses.
PEDROLINO
Okay, how many?
(BRIGHELLA falls asleep again.)
Jesus, not again. Wake up, Brighella, wake up.
BRIGHELLA
Oh, I'm sorry. Ten.
PEDROLINO
Okay, do you want them in basket or do you want them to be wrapped in paper?
(BRIGHELLA falls asleep again and PEDROLINO gets annoyed.)
Ah crap. Brighella? Brighella? Brighella!!
BRIGHELLA
Holy moly! Wrapped in paper, wrapped in paper!
PEDROLINO
Okay, and...
BRIGHELLA
Gosh, why do you keep questioning?! Go get the roses now!
PEDROLINO
Hey, calm down, calm down. I just want you to be specific...
BRIGHELLA
Can't you see I'm sleeping? Just... just go away and leave me alone, please!
PEDROLINO
Alright, as you wish.
(PEDROLINO leaves the house, and BRIGHELLA sleeps again.)
(5 minutes later, PEDROLINO comes back.)
PEDROLINO
Hey, I'm home. I got the roses, Brighella.
(PEDROLINO looks at BRIGHELLA sleeping then sighs.)
Ugh, you sleepy head.
(PEDROLINO wakes BRIGHELLA up by letting him sniff smell the roses.)
BRIGHELLA
(BRIGHELLA sneezes immediately. His eyes are wide open.)
Achoo! Achoo! Achoo!
PEDROLINO
Rise and shine, Cupcake.
BRIGHELLA
My God, don't you dare put those roses before my face! I'm allergic to them, dumbass!
PEDROLINO
Serves you right, Sleepy Head.
BRIGHELLA
You are so busted. It is clear that you had always been trying to ruin my sleep. Now take this...
(BRIGHELLA raises his fist and is going to hit him.)
PEDROLINO
Hey, stop, stop! You decided to be my ally to help me bring the Masters back together, remember? You can't hurt me.
BRIGHELLA
(BRIGHELLA stops his action.)
Ugh, fine. I'll let you get away this time. But if you do that to me again, I'll ruin your whole life.
PEDROLINO
Okay, so... we're cool now, right? What do I have to do next?
BRIGHELLA
The next thing you have to do is bring these roses to the Master's room, and put them on the table next to his bed. Have the Master and his Lady come home yet?
PEDROLINO
No, they haven't. But why do I have to give him the roses?
BRIGHELLA
Well, the reason for doing this is because if the Master sees the roses in his room, he will think his wife bought them because she wanted to say sorry and get back together with him.
PEDROLINO
Oh... So that's how your plan works... You're a genius, Brighella... Alright. Well, I'm going to put the roses in his room now.
BRIGHELLA
Yup, you better hurry.
(BRIGHELLA watches PEDROLINO leaving the room.)
(BLACKOUT)
(END OF SCENE)
