Room for 3?

After some time of talking they were finally in the underground tunnel leading to the lodging building.

— By the way, do you know where your room is?

— Uhm... No, I don't. It's room A-031.

— A-031?!

— Yes, what's the matter?

— Well, it's a pretty good room. Especially for a rookie. The best room a newcomer could have I guess...

— How so?

— For starters, the letter, 'A' in this case, is the class of the room. Newcomers habitually have a 'D' or 'E' class room. I wouldn't have been surprised for you to have a 'B' or a 'C' class, but not an 'A'. There's only two classes higher than 'A' and it's 'S' and 'SS', the chambers of the high-ranked members of this organisation. There's also 'Q', but it's only one room and it's always empty by tradition, and... also we lost the key. No one knows how to open it. It seems there is some sort of magical protection over it.

— Someone must know something about it, no?

— The only one who could know something is the founder's representative, but they haven't come back for years. I wasn't even part of the organisation back when they were here. I don't know where that personne went or if they are still alive, but I know they are the one who know the most about the organisation and this person is presently the oldest member... in a lot of ways.

— Do you know why they left?

— No, but I know they have one of the SS-class rooms.

— Do you know anything else about them?

— Not really, I don't even know their gender. However, I know they are the mentor of Mazkina and the one who made her enter the organisation.

— Then, what other information can you give me about my room?

— The first number, '0' in this case, corresponds to the floor on which the room is. Floor 0 is the underground level. Safer, closer to everything and harder to access. It contains all the S-classes and higher rooms and some A-classes too. Though, most A-classes are on higher levels. Mine is on level one, but I do have the pass to access level 0 because Mazkina often asks me to meet her in her room and wait for her there. The door is right there.

Ao'ry opened the door with his magnetic pass.

— You two are quite close, aren't you?

— I know it's not a real question, since you probably already deduced it. I guess your question is more "Is there a reason for that?" or "What kind of relationship do you have with her?". The answer to the first one is yes. She's the only one in this organisation that I'll do anything for her if she needs me. My first friend, and now my best friend. I made a personal vow to always stay loyal to her and do what she wants me to do. I owe her so much, I could give up my life for her. That answers the second question.

— You must have had a hard past.

— Present is not that much better, but at least I have some people close to me that I can lean on if need be.

"How deep really is their relationship?"

— The second number is the capacity of the room. So '3' for three people. Also the number of key doubles for the room. I'm not entirely sure why you had a room for 3 instead of for 2, but I guess she wanted you to have more space for some reason... For the last number, it often changes with time, it's the number of members living in the room. As yours is '1' and not '0' it means that the tests you'll be taking in the near future are simple formalities.

— Or there's someone who's already a member who'll live with me.

— Uhm... I highly doubt so. She wouldn't risk your identity to be revealed anymore than it already is.

— Well, it could be Mazkina.

— No, she already has an SS-class room and she's not the one who likes to share her private space and, even I can't enter her bedroom. I can go in any other rooms in her living space, but not there.

— Then, you?

Ao'ry stopped talking for a short moment.

"She would have told me, right? Maybe she didn't have time to warn me... I do have an A-class room too. Is she trying to punish me for spying on the fighting tests? 'Take responsibility and live with them from now on!' Well, it's not that bad, but I would have appreciated it if she'd told me beforehand."

— I don't believe it's me. I would have known?!

— Is it fear you feel?

— No, uncertainty. Though, uncertainty is fearsome. I wouldn't mind living with you, but I don't like not knowing if I need to change rooms. And you, how would you feel if I were to live with you?

— ... It could be great. I wouldn't mind either it's you or Mazkina. Anyone else I wouldn't agree. Even if they already know my true identity. Well, either way, we'll know now.

— What? Now?

"We are in front of the room, but there's no way to know if she's inside."

— Yes, now.

— ... She... she's...?

— Mhm!

— Can you give me the key?

Hoodisee gave the key to Ao'ry who slammed the door open after unlocking it.

— Is it true?

He was yelling his sentence. Mazkina was waiting on a sofa in the entrance hall/living room. Some documents and papers were piled up in front of her on a little table in the middle of the room.

— What is? That I'm here? Yes! It would have been embarrassing for you if I wasn't.

— No, no! That I'll live with them.

The headmistress threw a keyset at him.

— You'll have one of the key doubles, but you still have your room.

— I don't need a key. And it's a violation of privacy to give a key double to someone else than one of the owners of the room. Just like entering a room without getting permission beforehand.

— I don't really mind if either of you have one of the doubles.

— See? She doesn't mind. And we both know that you could be considered a masterkey, but the baby will need one when he'll be old enough. I don't want anyone else to have access to this room other than us.

— Why are you treating them so well?

— What do you mean?

— You gave them one of the highest class rooms.

— Don't they deserve an apology gift for the harsh treatment?

— ... I agree, but why the room for three?

— I wanted to have a spare key.

— A spare key? What for? For you?

— No, just in case.

Hoodisee placed baby bee in a cradle that was installed in the room.

— You also heard the rumors and had the same idea than I had, right?

— With what I can see, yes we probably both did have the same idea.

Ao'ry didn't understand what they were talking about.

— Same idea? What idea?

Mazkina looked at him with judgeful eyes.

— Can you really not understand even with that appearance?

Ao'ry had totally forgotten that he had the appearance of Hoodisee without a cloak or a mask.

— Oh... You want to hide Hoodisee's true identity by making others think she's two distinct persons.

Mazkina nodded.

— Yes, that was the idea.

She then looked at Hoodisee who sat on the sofa next to her.

— So, that's your name? Hoodisee.

— It's not my real name, but the one I use since I don't know how I'm called and others call me that for some reason.

— Why don't you know it?

— It's all because I don't know anything about my past. I don't know what I've done prior to five years ago.

It was exactly the story Ao'ry was waiting for.
