Chapter Six.

Night was spent awake with the sounds of gunfire everywhere. The fence had been breached, and a few Rotters had moved towards them. That's when the gunshots started happening in the other direction.

Charles pulled Ethan from his bed whilst screaming at the top of his lungs,  "Here's the consequences for lighting that fucking fire! Arm up, and prepare for defense!"

Ethan, and the three others in the room scrambled from bed, still dressed with their past days clothes, and picked up their weapons. Charles slipped to his bed to grab a few more bullets for the single shot he carried. Ethan grabbed his pistol, and slid the hammer back as he sprinted out the door.

Micheal, Brian, and Tex were shooting out of the gate entrance, and into the darkness with their weapons. Sasha had pulled two others with her to deal with the intruding Rotters.

"What the fuck is going on?" Simone, a man with wispy hair spoke this as he glanced around,

"I don't know, but get Kyle out of bed won't you? We all know he's a heavy sleeper." Charles slapped Simone's back as he rushed over to the gate.

Ethan pulled himself over to the Rotter problem, and found them to have pushed them outside the fence. Sasha saw him, and she slipped her rifle on her back to try, and close the gap.

"Don't let them in Ethan!" Was all she said.

The barrel she had placed in front of the hole stopped only one at a time, and would fall over if any more pressed against it. Ethan aligned his sights every time as they filed forward slowly in mass. The bodies piled up ,however, and started to make a barricade on their own.

Sasha had ran off some time ago, and returned carrying a few pieces of wood, and a hammer hung from her belt. She slammed it low to stay out of Ethan's aim. The two other people had disappeared, but gunfire had increased once we had gotten the flood lights out.

Over time we managed to secure the fence over here, and Sasha stationed herself to watch it just in case it was breached again. She yelled at Kyle to come to her once he stumbled from the house halfway asleep. Simone kept moving to the front part to help with the fighting.

Ethan spotted Charles and screamed over the noise, "Charles! Move to the house. I've got a plan."

Charles must have heard him because he peeled back, but so did everybody else. A fiery explosion lit up where they were last standing, and threw everybody to the ground. The gunfire had stopped, and Ethan felt a small ringing in his ears as he raised his pistol.

Everyone was lying on the ground as he moved towards the entrance slowly. No nose came from outside except for the crunching of footsteps. Ethan slipped his knife out, and clutched it with his other hand. The first barrel he saw coming in was kicked to the side, and when the person stepped in he slashed at him with his knife.

It was a make face he saw as his knife only caught fabric, but he didn't care. He pulled back into the cover he had to align a shot to the mans chest. He dropped to the ground, and Charles spun towards the doorway to pop off three blind ones. One of them must have but because he heard a muffled cry of pain.

Ethan almost jumped when Micheal touched his back, but relaxed when he nodded at him to proceed. Micheal raised his shotgun, a semi automatic, and waited for Ethan to move. Ethan swung around the door to find one person lying on the ground while the fleeing forms of at least seven more scurried away in the night.

The person was still breathing, and held onto her side as she let out a few cries of pain. She pulled her pistol up, but was to weka to lift it all the way. Micheal raised his shotgun, but Ethan pushed it down.

"Go check on the others. I'm sure they are fine, but make sure that back way is secure again. I need Simone up here once he is able to walk." Ethan glanced at the girl on the ground.

He slipped his own gun away as he moved closer, "I'd respect it if you would lower your weapon please. Ik not going to hurt you anymore. Now that this is over."

Ethan watched as she dropped the gun, and just lied their on the ground. "Just kill me now! Please! We know you do it anyways!"

Ethan was taken aback as he glanced at her worn expression. Her Auburn hair stuck to her sweat lined face as she pressed on the wound that had clipped her side.

"What do you mean?" Ethan asked slowly before kneeling over her.

Her eyes showed fear as Ethan had kneeled over her body. He moved her hands away from the wound as she stifled a cry.

She whispered it to him slowly, "That man. The one with the shotgun.... he's a horrible person. Are you not part of the Order?"

"What is the Order? He came to us days ago, but has been nothing but trouble..." Ethan spoke hushed now.

"We came here for shelter... that man was on guard duty, so we suspected a trap. We started the shooting first only because he had murdered so many of our men before..." she spoke this to him as her eyes widened.

Micheal came around the bend once more, and glanced casually between the two. "How's she doing?"

Ethan stood up, and faced him while he spoke carefully, "She's doing alright. She's quite delusional if I might add. Must be the pain messing with her."

"You don't say?" As he spoke that he flipped his gun up, and fired last Ethan.

The smack of the bullet cleared loudly in Ethan's head as he pulled away from the barrel, and glanced accusingly at what Micheal had done, "She was reaching for her gun... I couldn't let her take you out. We need you more than her waisting our medicine anyways..."

Ethan closed his eyes tightly as he replied, "Yeah, that's smart. Let's go back in after we remove the bodies..."

==========

Another chapter in this ever twisting novel I call a book.

If they made an award for most plot twists I think I would win by a long shot...

Anyways, I hope you enjoy, and what about that ending?!?
