Nature's Wrath
Once, my Mama told me, the world was a place of machinery and houses, where humans ruled, and animals and plants suffered at our cruel hands.
But then, Mother Nature decided to bite back.
May 5, 2102, at 4:00 pm, a man called Andrew Webber walked home through the local woods from the mines just like he did any other day. Colleagues reported speaking with him throughout their working hours and that nothing had seemed amiss. At 7:00 pm, his wife called the police department expressing concern for her husband who had not come home that evening. At 7:00 pm, 24 hours later, Andrew Webber was officially reported missing.
That was the first, my mama said. The first of many. Nature was sick and sore, and she was angry.
And so, it began.
The plants grew teeth and an appetite for human flesh and the animals got smarter. Machinery was wrecked by critters at all hours of the day and night, and country leaders were murdered in the most mysterious of ways. By the time people had realised what was happening, it was too late. Too long had the humans grown soft and lazy in their airconditioned house. Too long had they been in the apex point of the food chain. It was Nature's turn now.
To this day, decades later, humans are still hunted. We live in hiding of the whole world and her wrathful fury. But it's my turn now. Finally, it's my turn to go face the monsters and fight for humanity's survival.
