Chapter 1 - The Sunset in Santorini
...
The room was pitch dark. The beautiful sunset that Taehyung last saw right before he entered the villa and stepped into the darkness of the underground level was the only light he had seen in a while. The night vision goggles that were on his eyes were sufficient to see his surroundings perfectly. The only thing he missed was the colours and the light.
-'' The cameras will be temporarily disabled. You have 10 minutes before the system reboot.'' – The voice in his earpiece spoke quietly. Taehyung took a deep relaxing breath.
He walked slowly into the room. He was dressed all in black. The mask and the goggles covered his entire face. There will be no fingerprints, no hair, no DNA, nor even fabric once he leaves because his suit was specially designed to cover him completely from head to toes. It hugged his body tightly and was slippery, firm, but flexible at the same time. His footsteps were too soft. The ankles were agile and flawlessly adaptable, carrying and distributing his weight evenly so there were no creaking of the floorboards. Each step he took were careful and silent, like a cat.
He was in some multi-billionaire's villa, on the island of Santorini. It was well guarded with cameras and alarm systems. He has long forgotten the name of that rich man, but it didn't matter anyway. Taehyung rarely remembered names. He, however, never forgets faces, which comes in handy in large crowds. He also had very keen eyes to recognize a familiar face under a mask, something about bone structure, he once tried to explain to his brothers, but they've just stared at him blankly.
Aside from faces, he also never forgets the fine jewellery and expensive art they have in their possessions as well, and this man was a well-known collector with 1.5 billion worth of art collections, not counting the net worth of everything else he possessed around the World. At the moment, he was an owner of a rare piece of jewellery that Tae set his mind on collecting. A magnificent ruby and diamond necklace. It was estimated at 6.4 million dollars, or around 7 billion won, depending on the currency in which country, but that was a lot of zeros in the price tag.
Exactly two minutes ago his eyes fell on the small safe, hidden behind one of the Van Gogh paintings.
Taehyung's fingers itched to take the painting, but he curbed his urges down. One day, darling, one day. He thought. He loved Van Gogh's paintings, always wanted to have ''The Starry Night'' which was now located in The Museum of Modern Art in New York. It was heavily guarded, and almost impossible to steal. It's not that Taehyung didn't like challenges, but on the other hand, he was glad that it was out there, in the public eye, so everyone could enjoy it. It's the hidden treasures that irk him. He always wanted to dig them up, or take them away from possessive owners and put them on a display like they deserve, to be admired and cherished. Being locked in the safe or a dark room with stale air was insulting, a sacrilege.
The cameras were taken care of, and he was silent as a shadow. His body was well defined, tight and gracious and his brilliant mind was working hard every time he was on the field because everything mattered, everything was important since anything could go off and fuck you over. And right now, things were about to fuck him over. He couldn't pinpoint what it was, he just knew that something was terribly off.
Things were not the way they were supposed to be, Taehyung could feel it, his gut feeling was telling him to leave. He titled his head, listening. Everything was quiet. The cameras were off, the alarm was off, and he had exactly 9 more minutes. He should be starting on the safe already. But his body refused to move. Something was wrong. His mind was shouting at him.
The thing with Taehyung's intuition was that it was very dependable. It never led him astray. And if the unsettling feeling floods your stomach, warning you to step back, you listen.
He took a deep calming breath and looked at his wristwatch one more time to measure how many minutes or seconds he got left, while a series of near-future possibilities ran like a movie in his mind. The images were fast and so vivid that his body became still like a statue. He was barely breathing when the familiar voice in his earpiece warned him. -'' You are running late about a minute and a half so far, what's going on?''
-'' Something is wrong.'' – Tae gulped audibly, his throat muscles and jaw working to calm himself as he took deep breaths. – '' I can feel it.'' – He added, voice calm and quiet, even though his body was charged with energy and ready to bounce at the first wrong sound.
-'' What do you mean?'' – The voice asked for more information.
-'' Something is off, I don't know what yet. I just got goosebumps on my entire body.'' – He whispered urgently, his long slender fingers shaking slightly.
-'' Maybe it's just the adrenaline.'' – The voice said.
Taehyung shook his head. -'' After years of doing this I don't get an adrenalin rush when I'm working.''
Taehyung inhaled once again deeply, feeling his lungs with a small amount of air, closing his eyes and before the voice could even ask if he's sure in his hunch, he added. – ''Yes, I'm sure. My intuition never lies, you know it doesn't, and right this moment it's telling me to leave immediately.''
-'' Go.'' – Another, also familiar voice that kept his silence so far gave an order into his earpiece and it worked like a trigger. Taehyung's eyes burst open and he jumped, turning on his heel and moving without the sound towards the exit.
-'' What the...'' – It was heard from the earpiece suddenly. – '' The cameras are off.''
-'' Which one?''
-'' All of them.'' – Came the answer.
-'' Didn't you shut down the cameras?'' – Taehyung asked urgently.
-'' No, I played a montage.'' – The voice was slightly confused. – ''If you shut it down it sends a straight signal to the police to check, so I just played the recording.''
This is not good! Taehyung's mind was buzzing now. He heard the faint sounds far away.
-'' I am not alone. I hear noises.'' – Taehyung mutters quietly.
-'' What?'' – The voice in his ear hissed. – '' Fuck, run.''
-'' Can't, the stairs are the only way up, and they are coming towards me.'' – Taehyung whispers. His heart was drumming widely. The sounds of boots, several of them. Heavy. Deliberate. Not friendly.
-'' Hide, quickly.'' – The second voice commanded.
Taehyung ran silently towards the niche in the wall, covered with long and heavy drapery. -'' Shit, I can't see a thing, fuck...'' – Taehyung heard the voice cursing in his ear and soft tapping of the keyboard. Namjoon is freaking out right now, Taehyung knew it.
- ''They must have cut the silent alarm.'' – Namjoon says. – '' Which means the police is on their way probably too.''
-'' Is the Greek police fast?'' - The voice of the other man asked, calm and calculating, and Taehyung could almost see the cool baring of his brother Seokjin in his head, just as his other brother Namjoon was freaking out at the moment.
-'' The closest police station is 9 minutes away, they will be there quickly if the traffic is good.'' – Namjoon talked fast when he was nervous.
-'' It's an island, tourist season, of course, the traffic will be bad.'' – Seokjin concludes.
-'' Which gives you, roughly, about 15 minutes to get the hell out.'' – Namjoon says.
Just then a group of four people came down the stairs and Taehyung stops his breathing, glueing himself on the corner as much as he could. His pitch-black body suit hid him perfectly. He was one with the shadows, he wore no perfume, so no one knew he was there.
These were not professional thieves. Taehyung concludes. These men were more like mercenaries, brute and straight to business, they lack finesse in their movement. They stomp through the corridor like a herd of elephants.
There is the reason why Joon hacked their computers and play the decoy video, putting the hidden bug to pause the timing of the alarm. Only a genius like his brother could hack that. The others....let's just say they are not that smart.
You can't avoid the silent alarms. Going around it is a hassle, yes, but it will not alarm the police force. Pretty soon the secondary alarm that works on the generator will be triggered and the villa's automatic locking system will work its magic on the vault. They will be trapped down there, waiting for the police's arrival. It ran through Taehyung's mind.
-'' You don't touch the electricity, this new high-tech security system is like a puzzle. You have to know how to work through it.'' – Namjoon told him some time ago.
Taehyung was almost angry at the group of men. Cutting the power off like this...He growls silently. What do they think this is, the '90s? How come they don't know that? They must be bloody amateurs or just cocky idiots without a brain. Taehyung fumed in his mind.
He didn't care that they barged in and stopped his task. Well, that wasn't exactly true, he was furious because of it, but that was nothing compared to the fact that their stupidity could lock him as well into the trap. He was livid because of it.
He tried to see who they were the best he could. The four men in black with heavy equipment and bags moved fast and not at all quiet right next to him. They were so confident. Luckily for Taehyung, the men saw the entrance of the vault room so they didn't look around much. They were on the clock as well. Quick entry and exit. They probably cut some power cords of the villa beforehand, which explained his easy entry. He must have got in there just a few minutes before they did. Boy, he was lucky.
Taehyung's heart was thumping loud. He slipped pass them and up the stairs, only to discover that the passage he used was blocked now, as one of the men was standing there holding guard. He needed another way out. He tried to picture the villa plans, cursing inwardly when he couldn't remember a thing. He wished he had Namjoon's photographic memory.
As sensing his predicament, Namjoon spoke in his earpiece. – ''There are three exits you can use. One is the kitchen, the side door which you used to enter. The second is through the library on the second floor, it leads to the balcony, but it's out in the open. Anyone from the entrance path could see you.''
No, and no. The kitchen is probably watched, as well as the balcony. Taehyung thought, and he didn't want to be seen at all. Too risky.
-'' The third option, however...'' – Namjoon continued. – ''... is through a roof. You need to take the stairs to the top floor. There is a small window in the bathroom. It seems that access onto the roof is somewhat difficult, you'll need to climb a bit. You will be on the West wing. I'm looking at the satellite view, there is a tree on the other side. The tree seems big enough to allow you to cross.''
That...wasn't... so bad. Taehyung cursed. He wasn't a huge fan of the heights, but it will have to do. Still observing the man, backed away swiftly towards the stairs. He moved up at a quick pace, crossing two or three sets of stairs in his heist. The carpet on each step quieted his fast departing from the sudden wasp nest. He was grateful. Come on, lucky angels, take me away from this mess. He sent a silent prayer when he reached the bathroom. Namjoon's expert navigation saved him from entering many doors in search of the right one.
-'' Are you there?'' – Namjoon asked.
Taehyung finally dared to whisper. – '' Yes. The window is quite small, but I think I can pull through.''
-'' Yeah, I can see that.'' – Namjoon agreed. He was watching everything through the small camera on Taehyung's outfit, in the left corner of his collarbone. It was small as a button.
Taehyung looked through the window at all four sides, thinking it through. – ''I need something to grapple the roof so I can climb up. I don't think I can reach it otherwise'' - He took his goggles away and packed them safely into his pocket. He blinked several times at the dim light. The sun has set, but it was still slightly visible outside.
Dammit! He cursed. He hoped for complete darkness, but perhaps, no one will look up.
-'' There is an option on that new gun I've set you up.'' – Namjoon says. – ''You also have a set of extensions, one of them is a small hook. Hopefully, it would hook on something. Check your backpack.''
Taehyung took his backpack off with a bit of difficulty. It stuck to him like Velcro. Quite a pain in the ass to take it off, but it was great because you can't lose it easily. The Velcro sound was devastating.
-'' That was loud.'' – Namjoon said.
-'' You think?'' - Taehyung growled in a low voice. –'' Let's hope no one from the lower floors heard that.''
-'' Then be quick about it.'' – Namjoon added matter-of-factly and Taehyung wanted to slap him. He loved his brother very much, but sometimes...
Instead of replying he rummaged through his bag. In there, amongst other things, he found a gun with the hook on the top and a roll of strong nylon black rope. He looked at the rope sceptically, it was too bloody thin.
-'' Are you sure this can hold my weight?'' – He whispered.
-'' Do you seriously believe that I would give you something that cannot?'' – Namjoon asked in a flat voice and Taehyung could imagine his deadpan face.
-'' Hmm...'' - Taehyung hummed.
-'' You better not finish that sentence. Move.'' – Namjoon warned and Taehyung allowed himself a small smile. No, Namjoon would never cause him harm...well... not attentionally anyway. His clumsy ass did cause him an injury or two when they were kids, but never on the mission. Never.
Taehyung struggles a bit to slip through the window, hanging in half and praying that the hook will find something strong to catch onto and won't make too much ruckus.
Whether it was his skill or huge stupid luck Taehyung didn't know nor care at this point. He just wanted to get the hell out of here. He hated when the plan changes so abruptly and take a dangerous turn. Stealing is fun. To have adrenaline pump through your veins while you keep everything under control is fun. Having adrenaline pumping when things are in chaos is a gamble that Taehyung is not a fan of. He sure was a wildcard in the family, he got that from his mother. His brothers are more like their father, but Taehyung got his wild blood from his mother's side.
They were both eccentrics, free spirits, unbound and brilliant. She used to say that being weird is a form of uniqueness and just because you don't fit into a mould or follow the system doesn't mean that you are a hopeless case. His brothers were the perfect sons in his father's eyes and Taehyung...Taehyung was a loose screw. Too fickle, too unpredictable, too flamboyant.
Hah, someone should have told his late father that Seokjin, his favourite firstborn is even more unpredictable and dramatic than Taehyung ever were. Taehyung thought bitterly.
-'' Your heart rate just increased suddenly. What's going on?'' – Namjoon asked.
-'' You mean besides the fact that I'm hanging three stories from the ground?'' – Taehyung grunts. –'' I'm fine, just remembered good old father, that's all.'' – Tae grumbled as he climbed up the wall.
-'' Thinking about him never did us any good. Focus.'' – Jin's voice went cold. There's no secret amongst them that all three brothers despised their late father. Both Jin and Namjoon adored Taehyung ever since he was born, and they always stood by him, whenever their father would be especially cross with his youngest. They protected him always, especially after their mother died, after battling cancer. Taehyung was eternally grateful for having them in his life.
All three of them felt relief when the old man died as well, some three years later. He pushed them into chaos and left him there. They struggled but at least the old bastard was gone.
Tae still blamed him for everything that had happened to his family. He hated him, but for the world, and the image in the society, he was the best father imaginable. Taehyung always wondered how people could be so easily fooled. He shook his head and pulled himself up. -'' I'm trying to.'' He spits through his clenched teeth as he reached the top of the roof.
-'' Try harder.'' – Seokjin hiss, his voice was commanding. Taehyung knew he was watching the entire ordeal, examining it together with Namjoon in their headquarters. Seokjin was the one arranging the jobs, and Tae knew that he was fuming right now because of this setup.
Taehyung didn't talk again as he was wrapping the rope back to its reel. Packing everything up and placing it all on his back, he hurried across the roof, stepping carefully across the tiles. He reached the tree and cursed yet again.
-'' What?'' – Namjoon asked.
-'' The tree is far.'' – Taehyung answered.
-'' It doesn't look that far from here.'' – Namjoon says.
-'' Well it is fucking far.'' – Taehyung hissed back at his brother. – ''I might not be far for you who sits safely away, in his comfortable chair, scratching his balls, but it is far from where I stand.''
-'' I don't scratch my balls.'' – Namjoon protested.
-'' Maybe not right now, but in general.'' – Taehyung insisted but was interrupted.
-'' Focus, both of you!'' – It was Seokjin this time. – '' Taehyung, can you reach it?''
-'' I can try. The tumble way down will be painful though.'' – Tae quickly assesses the height.
-'' Then try not to fall.'' – Jin snorted.
Taehyung chuckled and stepped back. He noticed a few branches which would be accessible to catch and took a deep, long breath in.
-'' Sure, take your time. Meditate on it.'' – Their middle brother teased.
-'' Shut up.'' – Taehyung hissed.
-'' Concentrate.'' – Jin's calm voice soothed him.
That's the thing with Jin, no matter how loud and dramatic he is in everyday life, when things are serious, like way serious, he is stepping into his Commander role. He is like a soldier, cold and calculating. He knew exactly how to rattle Taehyung's cage but also how to calm him down when he gets too nervous. When he was little he would sneak into Jin's bed after a nightmare and Jin would cuddle him until he sleeps. The next morning he would find himself tucked in his own bed, while Jin went to school or private classes that their father always arranged.
Their life wasn't the easy one, especially after their mother died. Father was....difficult, to say the least. He also sold his sons, in a matter of speak, to save his sinking company and pay off his huge debts. That eventually led them to the lifestyle and line of work they were doing right now.
Taehyung shook his head to clear his mind yet again. His thoughts were escaping toward his father and he scolded himself. This entire ordeal with this necklace was pulling the demons from the past, and Taehyung disliked it. Thinking about him, as Namjoon said, is never good, especially not now.
He wiggled his hands and shoulders, bending his knees, bouncing slightly in place. He took another deep breath, calming his nerves and then without a single thought he leapt into the air.
How the hell no one heard the branches breaking and him grunting, Taehyung couldn't fathom, but no one came to investigate the noise. The impact almost took all the air from his lungs. He somehow managed to jump with his feet on the branch, but it broke and he would probably lie dead at the bottom of the tree right now if he didn't grip on another, which was, luckily, strong enough to hold him.
-'' Please tell me you are alive?'' – Namjoon breathed into his ear. Taehyung grunted, using all of his muscles to climb his body up.
-'' You can see that he is dangling from a tree, Joon.'' – Jin pointed out exasperatedly, Taehyung could imagine him rolling his eyes. – '' He would be at the bottom of the tree otherwise, with his legs broken, or worse, his neck.''
-'' It was a matter of speech, Hyung.'' – Namjoon defended himself grumpily. –'' And I wasn't looking when he jumped. I can see that he is still moving, but I'm asking if he is...''
-'' I'm fine.'' – Taehyung interrupted him. -'' Fuck, that was close.'' – He added, trying to calm his racing heart which was threatening to jump out of his chest.
-'' Can you climb down?'' – Seokjin asked in a calm voice.
-'' No if I don't want to break my neck, as you said. The trunk is too wide and the bottom of the tree has no branches on it. They've been cut from this side.''
-'' Probably to prevent climbing up the roof.'' – Namjoon suggests.
Taehyung squinted his eyes down the trunk, and then on the other side. – '' And there is a cliff behind it.'' – He said it matter-of-factly.
-'' Then why the hell did you jump?'' – Namjoon was annoyed.
-'' It was the best way.'' – Taehyung replied. – '' The other walls of the villa all led to the yard, only this one is on the edge of a cliff.''
-'' Then use the rope to climb down the tree.'' – Namjoon suggested.
-'' The dogs are probably near.'' – Taehyung pointed out.
-'' But you like the dogs, you pass them when you came in.'' – Namjoon was worried now.
-'' Rotwallers let you in, but they don't let you out, Hyung. They are still out and running, and I have the feeling that they won't be nice doggies.'' – Taehyung spoke calmly. He didn't panic, no, not at all, well...ok, maybe just a little bit. He wetted his lips with his tongue and added. – '' And I don't want to encounter them nor the guards.''
-'' I think the other team took them down.'' – Jin supplied.
-'' You think they've killed the doggies?'' – Namjoon's voice wavered a bit.
-'' Could be.'' – Jin said, but then took pity on his brother and offered another solution. – '' They are probably still sleeping from Taehyung's treat from before.''
-'' Don't want to risk it.'' – Tae tsked with his tongue. – '' Besides, if four-legged dogs are not there, then two-legged are.'' – He added, reaching for his backpack again. He took the grappling hook again, thinking it through. He was running out of time, he could feel it.
And he was right, the police sirens started bellowing from the far, sounding closer and closer. Several of them. Taehyung cursed, leaning towards the cliff, examining it. Pros and cons of me taking that path down. He mused in silence.
-'' Tae, whatever you're thinking, don't!'' – Jin warned him, but it was too late for warnings, Taehyung knew them all. He can hear both of his brothers in his head. Namjoon's panicking voice dictating him several technical manuals of ''how to survive the high jump, and how to treat broken limbs if you fail'' that he would probably browse from the vast Namjoonpedia in his brain. And, then, there's Seokjin and his commanding nature, warning him not to do anything stupid. And Taehyung is famous for doing silly stupid things.
He chuckled and aimed at one big chunk of the cliff and pressed the trigger. The hook flew across the slope of the hill dragging down until wedging itself on the chunk of stone. Taehyung pulled several times hard just to make sure it isn't loose and wrapped the middle of the rope several times around his waist into a safe knot. He could hear the police sirens too close now.
The first shots roared through the air.
-'' Fucking hell!'' – Namjoon shouted. – ''Are they shooting?''
-'' Oh, yes.'' – Taehyung turned his head, but he couldn't see anything. The gunshots were on the other side of the villa. There were answering shots as well, so the police and the crew must have clashed. Yup, definitely no other way out, but down. He decided, looking back and getting ready. He sent a silent prayer. Better dead than caught, so his brothers will be safe.
-'' Jin Hyung, make sure you find my body before anyone else.'' – He says, gulping and huffing.
-'' What?'' – Jin was confused. – ''What are you...?''
But Taehyung jumped.
-'' Taehyung!!!'' – Both Jin and Namjoon screamed in his ear.
Everything went in slow motion for Taehyung then. His heart stopped for a second, the air in his lungs froze in there, his mind also stopped working, only his muscle memory still functioned, which was great that it did, because if he didn't grip the rope with his hands the force of the pull would cut into his waist and snapped his spine in half. The speed came rushing so fast that he barely managed to brace himself for the blow. He hit the stone with all his weight and swing momentum, punching the air out of his lungs. He choked and coughed, trying to inhale the needed air, but he managed only after several tries.
There was a silence on the other side of his earpiece as well. Taehyung wasn't sure if the line was cut or if his brothers fainted. Well, one of them at least. He knew exactly which one because Jin spoke, dangerously calm.
-'' Taehyung.''
His cold barring hid the fact that he was terrified for his youngest brother. Plus, he was furious as hell, and Taehyung just waited for the explosion.
-'' Tae.'' – Jin called again. – '' Are you alright?'' – He asked carefully.
-'' I'll get back to you in the moment.'' – Taehyung grunted, still gasping for the needed air, swinging left and right in the mid-height. He heard relief gasps from the other line, both Jin and Namjoon let go of the collective breath they held.
-'' Fuck, I'm gonna be sick.'' – Namjoon said, truly sounding bad.
Taehyung looked down and gulped because the ground was still far away. The knot that held through this insane escapade was easily untied with an experienced tug in the right direction, allowing him to slide down the rope carefully. Bit by bit he descended towards the ground and was about three and a half meters far from it when he reached the end of the rope.
-'' Shit!" - He cursed and closed his eyes for a moment preparing himself for the fall. His muscles were aching, his suit was filthy, but undamaged, damn good stuff. He was sweating like hell and he couldn't wait to take off his shoes and put on his slippers.
Jin tried to find the best solution for him. – '' Alright, Tae, listen to me.'' – His voice was still calm, cold and calculated, which was for the best in a given situation. Taehyung was grateful. He wasn't in the mood for Seokjin's scolds and screams that are undoubtedly coming in the nearest future.
This Seokjin was a strategist, looking at the problem from all angles so he could find the easy way out for Tae. – ''Try to see if there is any part of that cliff that you can grip. Try to find the way to climb down as mountain climbers do.''
But Tae couldn't be bothered with that. He fixed his knees in a half-crouch, holding his legs together to make the impact of the ground weaker. He reminds himself to land on the tips of his toes first and then try to roll over his head, so he won't break his legs in the process. The ground reaches to embrace him as soon as he let go of the rope. His fall was followed by shrieking screams from both of his brothers. His eardrums were in pain. That definitely wasn't helpful. Taehyung thought right before he reached the land. He caught himself on his feet and managed to do half roll half somersault in the air, proceeding to slide and roll down the dusty slope some more meters before stopping at the bottom, next to the olive trees. He whined from pain and excessive thumbing.
-'' Ouch!'' – He complained. There was a silence on the other side for a moment before Jin asked.
-'' Are you hurt?'' – His voice wavering, hardly controlling.
Taehyung stretched his limbs on the ground, grunting a bit, checking to see if his body is still untacked before standing up.
-'' Did you slip?'' – The eldest wanted to know, breathing hard.
-'' No.'' – Taehyung admitted, taking off his head mask and ruffling his hair, free. – '' I let go.''
-'' You bloody insane fucker!'' – Jin exploded then. Here we go. Taehyung thought. - '' Do you have any idea how stupid that was?! You could've died! You shorten my life by several years, you bastard! You spoiled, selfish, bloody insane idiot!'' – Jin was shouting his lungs out. Taehyung was certain that the neighbouring country could hear him without any problem.
The rant went on and on, Taehyung wasn't even listening at some point. He proceeded to take off his equipment, gloves and upper part of his suit and pack it into his backpack. He took out a Hawaiian shirt, sky blue, with white flowers and put it on, together with a red cap. He rolls the end of his tight pants in ¾ length and took a small camera on the stick into his hand. Now he can pass as a tourist.
Jin was still ranting when Taehyung stopped him, speaking directly to Namjoon.
-'' Joonie Hyung, I've left the rope and the hook on the cliff, there's no way of retrieving it.''
-'' Fuck the hook and the bloody rope!'' – Jin was cursing, still enraged. Namjoon was still quiet.
-'' Namjoonie Hyung? You still there? '' – Taehyung called again when Jin stopped to take a breath.
-'' Yes, I'm still here.'' – His voice was so quiet, he was seriously scared. Taehyung felt a pang of guilt for scaring them, especially Namjoon, who even though was a bloody genius, was a gentle soul, who liked poetry, bonsai trees and small crabs.
-'' I'm sorry, both of you, but I'm fine. Honestly, I am. It was a tumble, but I am unharmed, Hyung, this suit is amazing, where the hell did you find it? It saved my ass. Spared me from a few broken bones for sure.''
Namjoon cleaned his throat slightly, still recovering after the entire ordeal and then spoke. –'' I'm glad it did. Tae, please don't do that again. I nearly died just watching you. You make me experience my worst fear of falling down the fucking cliff!''
Taehyung sighed. – '' I'm sorry Hyung for making you experience that. Both of you. And I'm sorry again, but I can't promise you that I won't do it again.''
-'' Yah!'' – Jin protested, but Taehyung stopped him. – '' I mean, you never know what will happen. This was unplanned. But I will try not to, I really will.'' – He promised that much.
That was enough for Namjoon. Jin, on the other hand, was still irritated, he muttered something that Taehyung didn't quite understand, but it sounded a lot more like '' crazy idiot'' and '' beat his ass'' between the lines.
-'' We didn't anticipate that road. There aren't any vehicles around. You are far away from the centre.'' – Namjoon informed him.
-'' Don't worry, I will manage. I always do.'' – Taehyung said and started walking down the goat path. – '' Besides, I've saved time escaping the place. I got out of there on time.''
-'' Did you see who they were?'' – Jin asked, his voice back to normal self, yet again. –'' You were in the wrong angle, we didn't see shit.'' – He added accusingly.
Taehyung ignored the jab. -'' They weren't Dong-Ho's men, that's for sure.''
-'' No.'' – Jin agrees. – '' Dong-Ho wouldn't send his team to steal a thing he just sold.''
-'' It's Dong-Ho, so I wouldn't be surprised.'' – Taehyung says with venom.
-'' Nah, he is way too smart for that. '' – Jin says with conviction. – '' Besides, I know his schedule. I plan his heists, remember?''
-'' Yeah, I guess you would know then.'' – Taehyung agrees.
-'' But who were these guys?'' – Namjoon interjects.
-'' I couldn't see their faces properly...'' – Taehyung answers. – ''... but they were mixed, some European, some Asian, big and rough guys, four of them. Another one was next to the kitchen entrance, he looks from around here.''
-'' Yeah, he looked local.'' – Namjoon agreed.
-'' So we are not the only one after this necklace.'' – Jin mused, more to himself. – '' Well, we will be more prepared next time. Sorry for not checking it more.'' – He addressed Taehyung.
-'' Hyung, if anyone checks and re-checks everything it's you. Don't worry about it. Even I didn't see this far, but we plan as we go.'' – Taehyung said and took a turn, the path went zig-zag down.
-'' I can't wait to reach my hotel.'' – Taehyung said dreamily. Some twenty minutes later he reached the beach. There was a group of people there, all foreigners, but one girl who seemed Greek. They were in various processes of packing to leave. The jeep was parked not too far away. They seem to be field-tripping the entire day, considering they dressed lightly, mostly in their swim trunks and bikinis. Two girls and three guys.
-'' Got to go, call you later.'' – Taehyung spoke into his earpiece and then took it off, placing it into the pocket.
He reached them with a bright smile on his face.
-'' Hello there!'' – He greeted in English and allowed his charm to do the rest. He made the story about hiking and sightseeing in search of some good landscapes to film. He lost the track of time and wandered quite far from where he started. They agreed to give him a ride to the centre. He was very grateful. They drove him to his hotel. Taehyung made sure that the hotel staff see him climbing down from the jeep with a huge smile and a promise to his new companions that he will join them in two hours for a few drinks at a local bar. That will give him the alibi if anyone sniffed around.
Exactly two and a half hours later he left the hotel dressed like some model. He winked at the desk lady in a foyer of the hotel. She giggled and sighed dreamily at him.
The admiring stares followed him to his destination. On the street, in the stores, he passed by. He wanted the attention, he wanted people to know that he was there. Like he just fly by. He made sure to sign in to the hotel a night ago. He spent the day at the beach, where he was photographed by the press, swimming and walking out of the water, with his wet hair and handsome body, and then in flirty conversation with a busty blond. The pictures were online in less than a minute. Taehyung laughed when he saw it.
The blond female from the pictures he was charming was supposed to be his alibi. She was to show him around, go shopping, grab lunch or something before they go dancing and so many other things, but alas, they got separated at one moment by the photographers and news reporters who took pictures of them flirting. Everyone thought they disappeared together. It didn't matter, Taehyung didn't care with whom they are connecting him, but where he was photographed, and that was the exact opposite location of where the villa place was. Taehyung called and told her that he went back to his hotel. Instead, he went to his hideout and prepared for the job when the sun started to set.
In truth, Taehyung was here incognito for a week, under different masks, moving around as a backpacker traveller, observing the villa and its security, planning when to strike. Then, he went to the airport and leave the country as his fake alias, and enter the country as Kim Taehyung, the famous Korean bad boy heartthrob, known worldwide and for several years in the row selected as one of the most handsome men in the world by the people.
He was in Greece for a meeting with no other than the rich man he was sent to steal from. One of the many branches of Kim Enterprises was Security. Expensive high-tech security system and equipment.
-'' It will give us insight into their system.'' – Seokjin said while the three of them sat planning the job. – ''Even if someone from the ''Organization'' come snooping around we can tell them that it was the plan in the making.''
-'' Do you think they will snoop?'' – Namjoon asked.
-'' Better safe than sorry.'' – Seokjin answered and Taehyung chuckled.
-'' Always a few steps ahead.'' – Taehyung mused. – '' Plus, if the burglary comes before, it will just show them that they need better security.''
-'' Yes, no one suspects the thief coming back the day after.'' – Jin chuckled as well.
Fewer people, more technology. They proved invaluable on the market, a nightmare for the thieves, and bloody expensive. Mr Zitakis, or whatever his name was, called Seokjin and asked for his services.
Seokjin sent his youngest brother and that's why Kim Taehyng was there, hiding the fact that Seokjin also sent him to scout and observe and steal the first thing the man wanted them to protect. That's why it was important that Taehyung's arrival comes later and the meeting is set after the burglary.
So Taehyung did what he did best, make sure that he is in the spotlight, so the press will think they follow his every move. Taehyung could feel them close by, with their cameras ready. He was ready to play his part. A frivolous and wild rich man in his thirties. Never married, never settling down, living from his fortune, protected by the right connections of his family name. Yes, Seokjin was the serious one, Namjoon is smart and quiet, and Taehyung was a charming troublemaker. Taehyung almost snorted at his thoughts. He looked at his watch. He was late, but then again Taehyung is always fashionably late.
He was effortlessly handsome and beautiful in the regular clothes, but add some expensive items and he is something above their reach. One of the guys from the beach was cute, handsome, blond, and rich as it seems. Taehyung checked out his shirt, and shoes, they were expensive, and Rayban sunglasses. In general, Taehyung didn't care what you wear, whether it was expensive or not as long as it is with taste, but the ''public Taehyung'' was vain enough. People expected the youngest Kim to have high standards, hanging out with celebrities, actors, models, rich people. Of course, Taehyung will find rich kids to play with. The bigger spoiled brat the world thinks of him, the more he is allowed.
So, Taehyung was prepared to impress. He was dressed in a dark silken shirt with some colourful flowers on it, tight black pants that hugged his legs and ass all in the right places. Black Gucci slippers, and belt, a silver Rolex watch on his wrist, and a black suit jacket casually tossed across his shoulders. His hair was curly, dark and tousled, a few rings adorned his fingers and a simple, yet elegant white gold chain with a pendant on it. He looked and smelled like a million bucks.
He walked slowly through the crowd. With his bearing and his height, he dominated the pedestrian street, feeling hungry and envious eyes on him from both males and females. He stopped in front of the café looking left and right when he heard.
-'' Ah, Tae over here!'' – The blond man from the beach bellowed from the cafe balcony and waved. They were on the second floor which looks over the street. – ''We are here! Come on up!''
Taehyung smiled his friendly smile and wave back, entering the café and climbing up the round stairs.
The man was surrounded by several cheerful people, all already half drunk. The blond man stood to welcome him. – '' You came.'' – He couldn't hide the surprise in his voice. –'' I didn't think you would.''
Taehyung put on his best seductive face, acting a bit surprised. – '' Should I not?'' – He asked in perfect English.
-'' No, no, no, you should. I'm glad you did. I was just... I mean... you are...'' – The man rambled and Taehyung tilted his head adorably, enjoying seeing him blush, struggling to find the right words.
-'' He means to say he thinks you are out of his league!'' – One of his buddies said loudly.
-'' Yeah, like he is here...'' – Another one chimed in, placing his hand near his chest height, while the other shoots up in the air. – ''...and you are way up here.''
The blond man turned to scowl at him. – '' Shut up!''
The two men and the rest of the company laughed and Taehyung laughed with them.
-'' How about we drink something, or do you need another moment to invite me to sit?'' – Taehyung asked teasingly. The blond redden even more.
-'' Fuck, yes, of course. Please, do join us.'' – He stuttered and pulled the chair right next to him.
Taehyung smiled seductively, saying in Korean... – '' Cute.'' - ... to the guy and then continued cheerfully on English a little louder. – ''Thank you.''
But as he leaned closer he whispered so no one except the blond man could hear. – '' As for the first part, maybe later, I would like to know you better first.''
It took a moment for a guy to finally understand what he meant. The word ''fuck'' appeared in his mind and he gulped and sat down, calling a waiter to come and take Taehyung's order. They all quickly fell into a comfortable chat, something that Taehyung was so natural at, like Seokjin as well.
-'' So, for new friendships?'' – Taehyung raised his glass once he got his drink. The rest of the company cheered and repeat the toast, but before the blond guy could take a sip he felt Taehyung's hand on his thigh and froze. His eyes found Taehyung's and he shuddered. Taehyung chuckled and continued conversing with others.
Tonight, let's have fun. He thought. Because tomorrow, straight to business.
