I do my homework at the same café every time. Can’t do it at home—too many bad memories.
Practice had just ended, and as captain now, I didn’t want to rush. Crowds make me anxious.
That’s when I saw him.
An old man in the distance dropped something. A box.
I started walking toward it—
—and the world… thinned.
The sound of traffic dulled, the crowd flickered in and out like bad reception, until it was just me and him. The air was heavier, warmer.
Jeno: “Sir! You dropped this.”
Old man: “Keep it. And don’t lose it under any circumstances.”
He looked me straight in the eye—
—and vanished. Like someone flipped a light switch. The silence stayed for a moment before the noise of the street rushed back in.
Inside the box was a ring and a note.
"When you feel the presence of the owner, throw it on the ground. Only he will notice and try to return it. That’s when you’ll know it’s him. He contains great strength—make sure he keeps it."
…What?
The ring’s gorgeous—blue crystal catching the light. I slip it on—
And heat rolls in. Fog. Not normal fog—hot, thick, wrapping around me like a blanket. My feet leave the ground—
Wait. WAIT. I’M NOT ON THE GROUND ANYMORE.
I’M FLYING.
WHAT IS GOING ON?!?!
The moment I land, the street’s empty. No one around. Two minutes ago, it was packed.
I glance at the ring. The crystal’s not blue anymore—it’s glowing green.
Okay… sure. Totally normal.
I pinch myself—nope, still here. Still crazy.
