An Interview With Jo From A Thin Blue Line - By Hally Willmott

I am so pumped to be participating in the first ever - Wattpad - Block party - First of all what a great idea!!! And a very close second - Thank you to everyone who is participating and everyone who is sharing and reading!

I am the author of "A Thin Blue Line". I am also the author of a young adult science fiction series called "The Elemental Series". To date there are three books - "Awakenings", "Revelations" and new as a handbook "Keepers" (Coming very soon)

I discovered Wattpad through another author from the publishing company I am signed with. I am over the moon happy I did find it! What an amazing opportunity to get your ideas, work and real time feedback on projects!

I initially thought I was a YA kinda writer - but my sister asked if I would try to write her something she normally reads - 50 Shades of something..... I told her I would try . From that idea - A thin Blue Line was borne.

So, I'm usually a very VISUAL learner and if there are a lot of words on a page and not much else I usually scan through it - I don't really know if you all are the same way - but because I am the way I am - I'm gonna put some visuals in here!

I figured doing an interview with Jo - the main female character in a Thin Blue Line would be the best - I do not want to give too much away so that's the reason I chose her. This interview is pre - book story line. It is one of the steps she took to become a Police Officer.

*Scene - police interview room - 3 years prior - present are two uniformed officers and two people in plain clothes...and of course a very nervous Jo Greenstone.*

Officer one:

Ms. Greenstone, we have gone over your application and we see that there is some missing time here. (He pauses and points to a time frame in my resume Dee had warned me about)

Jo:

Yes Sir. I wasn't fully employed then.

Officer Two:

Then what were you doing. From what I can see you had no time for school and you had a number of incidents with the law.

*I knew they were going to see most of my past - hell they had it documented there from the time my mother gave birth to me - but I also knew if they were asking the questions they already knew the answers and they were waiting for me lie about it, try to avoid it or make something close but not so detailed about what really happen. I chose to be brutally honest.*

Jo:

The time frame you are referring to is one in which Child protective services and the local police intervened. As you know already, my mother is a low level drug dealer / prostitute and both of my brothers have had run ins with the police. I know my record is there also, but what isn't on it are the nightly services my mother and her boyfriend's use to make a lot of money off of. From the time I was 10 my mother saw what kind of income I could bring in with my body and she had no issues in using it to get her next fix.

The time frame you are referring to is the one in which Dee Rasafer came into my life. I had been put onto the market and she was the lucky officer who got to meet me when I drowning in drugs and disease. I was taken from the only home I knew and brought to a rehab center where I received treatment for physical and emotional issues.

Plain Clothes Person 1:

So, when you were taken out of the home, didn't your family wonder where you went off to?

Jo:

My mother never cared a damn about me when I was living with her other than to make her money. She had no idea where I was and what was going on with me because she kept getting paid. It was one of the arrangements I had made before I went away. I didn't want anyone to know where I was and what I was doing.

Plain Clothes #2:

And how long have you been clean?

Jo:

Since the day Dee took me out of the house - 5 years now.

Officer #1:

From druggie to Police Officer? How does that happen?

Jo:

With a lot of work and determination. I didn't choose the lifestyle I was born into. However, I chose to get out of it.

Officer #2:

So where does your family think you are? Where do they think you've been for the last couple of years?

Jo:

Following in the footsteps of my dear old mother. They all think I went out West to find my birth father - and I got mixed up with a 'sugar' daddy of my own. They have no idea I've never left the province and they are clueless as to how I've turned my life around.

Plain Clothes #1:

When was the last time you saw anyone of them?

Jo:

At the funeral of my best friend Connie - five and a half years ago.

Officer #2:

Connie who?

Jo:

Connie Magher.

Plain Clothes 1:

How'd she die? OD?

Jo:

No she was killed by a biker and chopped up into little pieces. You guys already know all of this - I know that because I remember seeing you- (I point at the plain clothes 1) - and you - (I point at the uniform officer 2) at the funeral. I may have not been completely clean by then but it was that time in my life which changed me forever.

*Both of the people I have pointed out do not flinch or answer the unasked question of whether I am right or not. They both know I am.*

Uniform Officer 1:

Really, so why do you want to be a Police Officer? So you can infiltrate our organization and give confidential information to your family?

Jo:

I get why you would think that - but no. I want to be able to help people like Dee helped me. I want to be able to bring the people who killed my best friend to justice - (I pause for a second realizing my filter is slipping and I am about to start dropping "F" bombs all over the place)As I stop to regain my composure - the door to the interview room opens and in comes Dee and the hugest Biker guy I've ever seen.

Jo:

Dee what are you doing here?

Dee:

You didn't think I'd miss this.

Jo:

I can do it on my own.

Dee:

I know you can -

Biker Dude:

Jo I am Staff Sergeant Coles. I am the head of the BEU - Biker Enforcement Unit here. Dee and I go way back.

They look at one another and I know there are stories there which I will never know but can guess would blow my mind.

Staff Sergeant Cole:

Dee had told me you are a young version of her. I trust her with my life.

All of the other people in the room leave. Cole and Dee take a seat across from me.

Cole:

We are going to offer you a job - as a police officer - but before that happens I've got something else to pass by you....

My interest is peaked and I am hooked......
